    Bad advice. If you have ever uprighted a jet ski you would loop your hands and arm over the top of your topside down like your strap and just pull it back over. No one is finding paddles and straps after flipping all there gear. I could 100% show everyone a better actually life saving method. If you have a kayak look at videos of how to upright jet skis by yourself.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 6 hodinami

      By all means post it up. We are certified instructors. This is not something we just made up and put out there. You have to stay calm and locate your paddle or getting back on the kayak will leave you with no means of moving it and you only need the strap if you have a wide boat and it is hard to flip. I too have a jet ski and they are not the same.

    For someone that will be primarily river fishing solo, which kayak between the Pike and Kuda do you think would be better? I'm leaning toward the Pike since it seems like it would paddle a bit better into current with the keel in front.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 2 dny

      Depending on the river, I actually prefer the Kuda. I fish shallow smaller rivers with shoals and like how light and easy it is to move around. It also goes a bit shallower than the pike because the keel sticks down a bit. I use the whitewater fin or no fin depending on the situation.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 9 dny

      For the coldest nights, anything below freezing, i have a little buddy heater that I sit on the shelf so I can reach down and cut it off. It runs off propane. It is rated for indoor use and will absolutely run you out of there. I typically turn it on till I am comfortable in the bed and then cut it. Turn it back on in the morning and lay there till it is warm and get up. If I was doing more winter time camping and had my family along on those trips I might look into something a bit permanent.

    No one ever mentions, although you eluded to set up times, the whole experience with transportation. First off, it is a heavy and awkward (almost) 90 pounds to move while deflated and not as easy to do which is dependent on strength and age (for one person). As far as using it as a portable boat, going out obviously requires loading into your vehicle, unloading at site, inflation (about 35-45 minutes with one electric pump). Then after some time on the water, deflation, rolling it up, lifting and loading it into the vehicle again and driving home. Once home, naturally you have to unload it one more time, for a total of 4X lifting this thing and its motor. You have back issues, I wouldn't recommend. Lastly, the majority of owners of this boat, of which I am one, ultimately will get a trailer solely for the above stated reasons. It is a fun and stable boat. Great honest review, there is a lot to like about it. I do feel by the time you get a 9.9hp motor (many do), the weight of the motor (about 60 lbs for a 5-6 hp, or 95 lbs for a 9.9), you will have spent as much or more than you would have for a used, well equipped 12'-14' boat that already comes with a trailer in most cases. Again, great little boat, but the weigh of everything can just make it less enjoyable to use, hence again, why the majority get a trailer.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 15 dny

      I agree that setting up and tearing down each time would be more difficult. I transport it fully inflated on my truck rack and throw the motor in the bed or on a trailer so I am dealing with the full set up and honestly, with a cart, I feel it is pretty easy to maneuver. I am not trailering it like a normal boat and can move it around at home and to the water with a kayak cart while fully rigged as I had it in the video. I feel this is the real advantage to this boat and having the ultimate option to store delayed if needed. If you are setting up and tearing down each time and can sacrifice the capacity, something like an inflatable kayak or the FishSup might be a better choice. Great feedback!

    Jameson what kayak would you recommend for fishing in the marsh? I’m looking at the PWR, Jackson Bite FD, and the Old Town Sportsman PDL 120.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 16 dny

      Those are all solid options. If you plan to motorize, it would for sure be the PWR. I like how open the floor is without the drive. The Bite is awesome as well but would be more difficult to add the motor. If you were just going to keep it a pedal drive it would probably be the better option. I like the new belt drive and the way the lower unit kicks up without taking up more room in the deck. This is key when you’re shallow and wanting to stand and fish. Hopefully that helps. One more thing. I like to site fish, so I like motoring to my spots and then standing to fish which is why I personally like the PWR. Another great option to consider for motorization is the Nucanoe Pursuit.

    A strap is something I need to get just in case. My kayak is much smaller and it's one you sit inside of. I haven't tried it yet but you'd think a smaller kayak would be harder to get back into.

      Actually sometimes they are easier unless you’re talking about one that has a really small cockpit like a white water or touring kayak. They take a bit different technique and some times even a friend.

    Can it be set up as tandem? It would allow me to take my grandkids once in a while.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 21 dnem

      They could easily carry an adult and a child, but you would have to figure out a seating option. They aren’t “designed” to be tandem so it would just take some thought. I would also say it would depend on the size of the adult and child. I am 225lbs and my son is 8 and probably 70lbs or so. We can do it but he is really getting to the point where for space and comfort I would go with a bigger option

    How many have torn? Because it's inflatable, it doesn't seem durable.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 23 dny

      I have two inflatable kayaks, this inflatable skiff, and two inflatable rafts. I have never torn any of them. I got a couple of pin holes in one from sharp fish fins, but it took days to leak down and I was able to patch it really easy

    I like the Project M. How did you mount the rotopax and other items. I cant find a molle panel to work. Are you mounting straight into the side of the wall for the recovery boards. Thanks. Once again beautiful.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 23 dny

      Hey! Mine has the track option on the sides and I made a plate out of aluminum to span from one to the other. Bolted it on and then attached the rotopax to it. For the MaxTrax I did the same but they are just attached to the top track bar with the bracket. You can buy their bracket and do the same. There is a Molle panel made to work with Four Wheel’s track spacing. Here is the link to it too: prospeedrack.com/collections/accessories/products/four-wheel-campers-molle-panels?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3kljU7IP6ohOqsB0wNf7F04HskedUylC5thtbDV36qL9jxF1KnF-CQJsU_aem_kt9nIiTsy_zsv3C-E8ac4A Hopefully that helps! I love my set up. Thanks for watching!!

    What’s the dust situation with that camper? I’m on the fence between this or the regular camper.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 23 dny

      So at first I had some around the tailgate. Not the camper but around my truck tailgate. A bit of bulb seal in the areas that needed it took care of 90% of it. I see a little when I am on really bad roads but only around the bottom edge of the gate. I needed my truck to haul stuff so this was my only real option and it had been awesome!

    Max PSI in the water is safe! Because you have the water as a cooler. If you pull the boat out of the water it is recommended release some air 1 to 2 psi out.

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 26 dny

      For sure. I typically inflate a few below max regardless still very rigid!

    Awesome walk-through! I have a jackplate and powertech on my Heron 16 and i can jack up super high! You definitely have a ton of room to raise your engine. Especially with that stepped transom pushing the water up. One other thing i did was added a cavitation plate on my Tohatsu to hold the water around the prop and help with trim. It acts as an extra tab. Love my Saltmarsh! Wouldn't trade it for anything..

    • @roadtripangler
      @roadtripangler Před 28 dny

      Since I filmed this I raised it to the top holes on the motor and man it performs way better! It would be hard for me to ever want a different boat. I mean I would like to have the new Caicos too for shallower applications but that is a but I haven’t hit the lottery yet lol.
