If you get one of these, take the time to … I) Clean the PCB’s with alcohol, esp in vicinity of diffpair and the offset control opamp II) Take out the signal transistors, test their gain and find a matched pair for the diffamp …once you do this you’ll get a powerful low distortion and dead quiet amp that rivals anything new you can get today. In my experience (I have reconditioned several) the capacitors are just fine and don’t need change or upgrade.

Good value if they compete with many of the other offerings in the budget category. I have Triangle Zetas that do alot right with a titanium tweeter and paper woofer. A bit laid back but detailed and decently resolving but upscale speakers offer more resolution and note weight. Still. I have compared more expensive speakers while still preferring the Zetas. Using Dali Opticon 1s MK1 now but still have the Zetas. Can switch between the two but seem to prefer the Dali especially for movie soundtracks and most music. The Zetas give a bit different presentation, the Dali more resolution and note weight. But, I would not buy at the retail price of the new Opticon MK2 as the price is pretty high. So, if these do what I think they can do, it's a good budget option. The next step up could be something much higher in price which someone could choose to pursue or not. These need power though. My speakers are definitely more sensitive to input watts. But a good 50 watt can still drive to moderate SPLs and add a decent sub for fillin bass and away you go. How do these do with instrument separation and stage depth?

I have a GFA-5503. ADCOM’s three channel amp. I bought it for home theater, but I never got into home theater so I have used it for only a two channel amp for the last 27 years and it’s been failsafe. Much more dynamics, imaging and less heat. Guess this is due to much better and larger caps. I have the Adcom 535’s, Pre-amp 500 and the CD 600 Player (5) disc. I'm still using a GFA-535 (original, not a II) as the primary amp in my 2-channel system. It sounds fantastic with a good pre-amp, and has plenty of balls. I'm not a huge fan of Adcom's pre-amps, as I've found they're not transparent enough. Luckily we have plenty of good modern pre-amp options to pair with amps like the 535. My dad is using a GFA-555 to drive a set of Tekton Lores, and that sounds tremendous.

Thanks very much for posting this informative review. I have a brief question for you. I want to continue to use my Parasound Halo P6 Preamp..mostly for its ESS Sabre DAC. But I want to add in/upgrade the preamp section to Parasound JC2PB. Is it ok to use these 2 Parasound Preamps together? Do you think I'd be compromising the sound of the JC2PB by pairing it with P6? I doubt it. I love the sound of the P6. I could turn down the volume of the P6 Preamp & turn up the volume of the JC2PB. The JC2PB is a true audiophile grade unit. I'm pairing my Parasound Preamps with a current model McIntosh MC152 Power Amplifier. I appreciate any information that you can provide me. Thanks, David-

Honestly, I'd sell the P6, and grab any of a number of DAC's. You'll get a much better performance from your digital source. Reason, as nice as the onboard ESS chips are in the P6, off board units will out perform it. Besides, playing around with volume control on input to another preamp is a bit iffy. Fitting the purchasing model, purchased my GFA 545ii + GFP 555ii + Nakamichi CD player + B&W DM640 as a parting gift to myself (ex got the kenwood rack mount system in 1992). It was a big upgrade! After many years and moves that system ended up in the upstairs attic. Realized I missed good music and set it up upstairs, but the CDP died. Finally moved it downstairs and got a Node 3 years ago (original equipment). Forgot how good it sounded. Hi, i just discovered your channel, thanks for a fine review. I suspect that the Kanto SUB8 Compact Sealed Powered Subwoofer @ $269.00 would be a fine match for the Scouts. While the price point of the WiiM Amp is an obvious matchup, I don't think it would do justice soundwise to the Scout's midrange fidelity. Clearly, they're a speaker designed by an audiophile. Assuming the Vanguard/Kanto combo, finding an amplifier with matching qualities in the $550-$600 price range would be a bit of a challenge. I'd bet that my Keces e40 Integrated Amp would easily fit the bill. I got mine on sale from the distributor for $550. Lots of compatible choices in sources would round out a nice little system.

I had a gfa 555 and traded it for 2 NAD 2200 PE amps. Much more musical Power, at least driving my Infinity 8 kappa`s, just my opinion. I went all in in 95 with Cary Audio CAD 40m`s and Cary tube preamp.

Just bought the .7 one week ago today and I'm in love with these speakers and their unique open, beautiful, detailed sound. I find that I can play them almost 10 db lower than my box speakers with no loss of the quality sound and pure enjoyment. I'm using a Rogue Sphinx v3 integrated amp which has a tube preamp with 100 wpc and it is glorious. I find the soundstage to be broad and very realistic. I'm hearing things on albums I've played for over 40 years and discovering sounds I never heard before. I did an A-B. test with the LRS+ and it wasn't even close. Get the .7s.

Hi Audio pursuit, nice review! I hear you also own Totem Model one's. How do they compare tonally?

Thanks! As for your question, yes I own the original (35+ year old) Model 1's. Tonally, the 1's are a bit richer in the midrange. However, they don't have the lower frequency response. A second point to keep in mind is that as you move them out from the front wall the imaging improves, but after about 18 inches you begin to lose a bit of base support, which does affect the perceived richness.

When I treated my living room with UA Acoustics and some ATS Acoustic panels from Amazon I was blow away by the difference in sound, or should I say SILENCE! No more echo and image for days! Don't overlook room treatment like I did for years. Glory to the heroes of Ukraine and the defenders of the free world! 🇺🇦🇺🇸👊

I love "Never Going Back Again." Lindsey's guitar work is mind blowing. My other favorite is Bob Walsh's "Hypnotized."

If you're happy, good for you. To each, his or her own. But many of us want to hear deeper into the music understand that much like other experiences, SOMETIMES you got to spend some $$. Thanks for watching.
