How to create art using our photos / semi-abstract
In this tutorial video we're going to create a colorful semi-abstract art piece using our own photo or image transfer.
And since we are going to use photos in our process today, it means this video is a great way to obviously include images in your artwork but it can also replace drawing and sketching altogether. So the good news is that we donât even need to be gifted artists to just have fun and enjoy creating.
But even if you are a gifted artist this video can inspire and help you refresh your artwork with something new.

I just discovered your channel. You are a pure delight! I love your energy, style and bright colors! One question, do you have a video that can help us learn how to print the photos? You go through that pretty quickly. Knowing how to set the photo up to print would be incredibly helpful? Thank you! â€
True, I did show it quite quickly. To not repeat myself as I do show it in different videos, here and there. I probably should make a more organized video on the topic soon. Thank you Stacey đ„°
@@NitsaCreativeStudio Thank you, Nitsa, that would be so appreciated! I've never edited a photo before if you can believe that! But I'm inspired now after watching this and one other of your videos! I love your mixed media! You are a very talented artist! Thank you for sharing your work.
Thank you so much for watching and this lovely comment đ·đ„°
Hi Nitsa
Hi David đââïž
You are so fun to watch, I can't remember for sure if you used watercolor paint in your other semi abstract picture, but I liked the watercolor paint because it was more transparent , and didn't cover what was underneath as much, very beautiful, you've inspired me to try something like this.
You're right, in my previous video I used acrylic paints and not only that, I added some white to most of my paints, so they were quite opaque. Thank you so much Marilyn! đ„°đ·
Iâm glad youâve used the Woodies because I bought some last year and Iâve only just got them out a couple of days ago and Iâd forgotten how they worked so itâs great to seeXxxx
Right on! They are so much to use! The funny thing is that I had a similar experience and wasn't sure how to use them at first đ
This was so fun and inspirational to watch! Canât wait to try your technique. â€
Sounds like you're going to have fun! Thank you Deb đ„°
Love love love this - thank you!
Hi Nitza I love your art and want to do a transfer for my nephews wedding. I just bought your older book and love it. Iâm so happy I found your channelđ
Wonderful! I'm sure they will love and appreciate a handmade gift. Thank you Michele đ„°
Painting adds so much drama to the image! You use a dynamic paletteâŠvery appealing!
Thank you so much Dede đ„°đ·I'm very much into vivid colors these days.
Been looking at different image transfer processes for a while and, for me, they have often been very hit and miss. After watching your vid here I tried a sort of variant. If what we're trying to achieve is the transfer of something generated from our printer onto a background paper, then one way is to put the background paper straight through the printer. Just tried this with a couple of gelli printed backgrounds and it works pretty well. Just a suggestion.
That's a great suggestion! Obviously much easier to do than image transfer. But yeah, if you want to add your image to a large paper, canvas, wood, metal, glass or your journal, this is when image transfer is the best solution. Thank you Fergus đ„°đ·
I feel like u are my creative friends, that I never had⊠awh hugs . You are so wonderful. Thank u for sharing your work and being so very kind
That's such a sweet comment! Thank you so much Rama đ„°đ·

Thank you so much Shelly đ„°đ·
Wow! I didn't know about watercolor crayons. I now have ordered some. Thank you.
Have fun Jeanne! đ€©
I'm not sure if there's a specific "semi-abstract" style but I also use the term all the time cause it's also my favorite way to do my art!! đ A fantastic video, as always Nitsa!! Hugs from your creative friend in Mexico!! â€â€â€
Yay! You have great taste! đ It's always nice to meet a creative friend! Thank you sweet Marissa đ„°đ·

Did you say, one of your daughters is a schoolteacher? OMGosh! You dont look old enough for that.đČ
That's so sweet of you Maui đ„°
Why don't you just run your painting through the printer instead of doing the paper transfer ?đż
Photo transfer is great when you need to transfer to a large paper, canvas, wood or your journal. But even for a small paper, image transfer just has this organic texture that you can't get by printing directly into the paper. Thank you for your question Tim đ·
Nitsa, thanks so much for all of the great information. Love what you created and your ideas! Best wishes, Sondra Borrie
Hi Sondra, thank you so much for watching and this kind comment đ„°đ·
Hi Nitsa, so you're mentioned applying a medium to the art work if I printed it on an ink jet printer. Can I please explain the process to me in a bit more detail? Thank you, Sue
When working with inkjet photos in some cases you want to coat them with spray fixative such as Krylonâs Workable Fixative before transferring. Simply take your inkjet print outdoors and spray it with the fixative. Let it dry and then it's ready to be transferred. Some people use hairspray instead of fixative. I've never tried it yet, but it's worth a try if you have it at home.
She is VERY CUTE AND CREATIVE !!!!!
Very pretty!
Thank you Laurie! đ
Hi Nitsa. I received your "The New Mixed Media Photography Book" yesterday. I just love it! Your transfer techniques are detailed and look easy to follow. Your photography is fantastic as well! It will be fun to learn how to do transfers. (I have an inkjet printer now but plan to buy a laser printer.)đ
Best book review! thank you and I hope you enjoy the book and will make beautiful artwork! đ„°
Whether people like the image after transfer better than when you added your addition paint. i think it is your painting to do with what ever you wish. â€
Good point! Usually people just see the end results so it's fine. Thank you Deborah đ„°
Love your videos †thanks for sharing with us.
Glad you like them! Thank you so much for watching Annette, and this super sweet comment đ„°
I love your videos! I'm excited to try the photo transfer process. I love your work both before and after you add additional color. Do you sell your prints? I'm just getting started and my focus is junk journaling right now.
I love looking at junk journals! I get so inspired to create because they are so free of any constraints! And I don't sell prints, yet. I'm thinking about it đ thank you so much Christine đ„°
Another great video Nitsa! I don't know if semi abstract is an art style but I love your style! đ€©
As always thank you Skylight đ„°
Iâm still trying to get the jelly plate transfers to work. I got a free laser printer yesterday to try more to do this, but the laser prints I did at work did not transfer. đą
It take some time and practice to master it. It actually took me about a month to develop this process, from an idea to a successful print. so don't give up. And getting a (free!! đ„ł) laser printer will help! Good luck Barb đ
