Ok, it does not look like a push/pull situation. The door opens into the room, so to get out it's going to be pull. He appears to be trying to pull the first time and it doesn't work, the second time it does. The only thing different is that the lock below the handle has changed position, but he neither locked it nor unlocks it. It has just changed position between attempts. This requires some elaboration.

I have a creative idea.💡 He enters the room. Leaves the package. Pulls the door. Nothing. Pulls the door again. Nothing. Sits down on the floor. A CCTV camera in one corner of the room zooms onto his face that is showing signs of a panic attack. Sitcom laughter. He finds a note on one of the shelves ‘Never give up. You can do this’. He smiles with relief. Gets up, walks to the door. And pushes it. Nothing. Pushes it again. Nothing. Sitcom laughter. The close- up image of the piece of paper that falls from his hand to the ground revealing the other side on which it is printed *Note to the filming crew and audience. WARNING Feeling trapped is an indicator of increased risk of suicide. Proceed with caution. We can’t afford to keep replacing the protagonist* A click and the door opens. He walks out into a corridor. He looks at the new door. Zoom on a poster on a wall ‘Never give up’. His hand slowly moving towards the door handle. He pushes. He pulls. The sound of a CCTV camera zooming in. Sitcom laughter.

We're all only human. Perhaps it's plausible that he'd forget which way the door swings in so short a time. That being the case I don't feel silly that it took me a few views/comment checks to get what he did differently. 🤗

When our family first moved to Germany, the kids picked up German fast in school but I worked at home online in English and didn't know much. One day we were at a local bakery and I couldn't get the door to open either by pulling it or pushing it. I heard my kids saying something in German in the background but didn't know what. After nearly breaking the damn thing, they pulled me aside to slide the door, which is unusual here. They had been saying "schieben" but it was lost on me. 15 years later they still sometimes say "schieben!" and we crack up. 😂
