Brewing the Perfect Xmas Imperial Stout: Unleash the Power of Reiterated Mash in Brewzilla
This time we attempt to brew a MASSIVE Imperial Christmas Stout in the Brewzilla 35. Using a technique called a reiterated mash. The basic idea is that you perform multiple mashes, using the wort created in the previous mash as the brewing liquor for the next. This enables you to use a much larger grain bill than the equipment could normally manage. We aim for a SG of around 1.100 for an ABV of approx 12-13%

    • @johnpiggBrewBoys
      @johnpiggBrewBoys Před rokem

      I can't remember the detail, but you sparge enough to return to the original mash volume, so probably about 4 litres, and the second mash you sparge to reach your desired pre boil volume.

    Hi Brewboys been brewing kits for the past 24months. thinking going all grain, but it looks a bit daunting. like the vids. could you give me some ideas where to start please e.g. what kit do you need? where to purchase the brewzilla not many shops that stock it? Do i need the inkbird controller? what do you base your water chemistry on? i live in Wales so we don't suffer from hard water, do i need to test the water before each brew? Do not want to splash out too much just in case. any advice would be appreciated. many thanks

    • @johnpiggBrewBoys
      @johnpiggBrewBoys Před rokem

      It's really not daunting, it's just making porridge really. I'd go with an all in one like the brewzilla, but there are numerous makes and models to choose. It's best to get started with an all grain beer kit rather than writing your own recipies.

    • @johnpiggBrewBoys
      @johnpiggBrewBoys Před 2 lety

    Newish to brewing but have read up alot on things I've brewed. I understood gravity was taken before adding lactose, seeing as its a non fermentable..

    • @johnpiggBrewBoys
      @johnpiggBrewBoys Před 2 lety

      No, you still include it in your original gravity reading, it's taken into account because it's included in your final gravity reading when the beer is finished. It will start higher because of the lactose, but it will also finish higher, so it's accounted for. If you don't include it, your abv calculation will be wrong 👍

    @philphy9257 Před 2 lety

    Nice video, thanks for sharing. I have pretty much the exact same equipment as yourselves so it was very interesting to see how someone else does it. The main departure from my method is that I put the dry hops into the Fermzilla at the start when pitching the yeast - negates any risk of exposure to oxygen. Anyhow all good, your NEIPA looked great !!!

    • @johnpiggBrewBoys
      @johnpiggBrewBoys Před 2 lety

      Thanks, we've never suffered oxygenation, there's so much Co2 in the fermenter that it's really a non issue, however it's great that people do things in different ways. Please subscribe, we have more videos coming soon.

    • @johnpiggBrewBoys

      I don't think you wouldn't get a pressure relief valve that operated at 2psi, so a cork is useful. It pops out at quite low pressure.
