Jamming with the SC500 from Portablism Gear 👾
I got this amazing little machine to do live scratching with Space Bros (intergalactic boombap group featuring me and Bain from Grey Tapes on beats and raps from the incredible John Dole). This beat is one that Bain made for the project - you can hear the full vocal version on the latest Northern Tape release (available on cassette and download on their bandcamp - show them some love 💕)

How long did it take for you to receive after you ordered?
About 5 days
Man these have been out of stock and unavailable everywhere used or new. I’ve given up hope. These are so ill but I have a feeling they’ll never be available again.
If you follow the portablism shop on Instagram they usually announce when new ones will be available 👍
Can you tear on it?
Yeah it actually works best when your hand stays in contact so tears are perfect
If you find the instructional video by portablism there's a really good demo at the end
@kalimbomusic that's crazy. I remember when cd tables came out and you couldn't tear on them, then final scratch came along. Now this. That's a sick little device!
I wish there was a counter moving motor to make it more realistic!
Yeah that would really make it a lot easier! Kind of hard to keep track of where samples start

How did you set it up to play the sample when you release? Pressing play on mine just makes it play through the sample and the jogwheel doesnt stop it
It is basically set up the way it came, I didn't have to change anything to make it work like that. The jog wheel is touch sensitive, so any time you are touching it the sample should be reacting to the movement of the jog wheel (so if you spin it without keeping contact it may seem like it's not working?). It could be something in the settings or a loose connection but either way I would contact the maker if I was you 🤞
@@kalimbomusic thanks for the reply, turns out I accidentally bumped the jogwheel the first time i turned it on which you're not supposed to do, it works fine now!

@@kalimbomusic I’ve used all sorts lol traktor to pioneer , vestax to technics , couple of portables too , just the novelty factor of a quick all in one scratch has me whoring samples already. Went for the UV frost purple . Ordered a week ago , so impatient lol 😂 Make some more videos dude ! I’d love to know what samples and beats come with it on the card , searched like crazy to find nothing info wise on this !
There's not a huge amount of samples and beats included but definitely enough to get you started! And it's super easy to add more. Thanks man will do 👌
@@kalimbomusic mine crashes whenever I upload more beats n samples … any idea what I’m doing wrong ? Some of the beats are an hour long
@@dejayreal I think I had this problem when I tried to add something higher than 16bit, so yeah maybe check the bit rate?
How did you get the samples on the right ? Is there a way to reverse the fader or did you just drop the samples into the beats folder ?
The fader cuts the samples out on both sides, so you can use it either way. There's also a setting in the txt file if you want to make one side cut the beats in and out but usually they just keep playing whatever the fader is doing 👍

Hey, I was given these two by a friend for really cheap! Any idea on how to connect them like you do and then into a computer? I'm a huge noob so no idea on how to start. Great beats.
Hi, there are quite a few ways to do it! I have the audio outputs of both going into separate inputs on a mixer/interface (mine is Allen and heath zedi 10 but you can use any with 2 or more inputs). That's going into Ableton to record them on to an audio track each. I also have a minijack cable going from the synth's sync output to the sync input of the PO, and the synth is being controlled from Ableton through a micro usb
