    Ty Lou and Rondo are the best candidates in my opinion, with JJ being a wildcard, because not much is known about him in a coaching sense. I will say that from watching him on TV, he seems too convinced in his beliefs of what is fact or not to be a yes man, which is a plus. We know Ty Lou cussed LBJ out before, so he can handle LBJ, and Rondo isn’t going to settle for suboptimal play on either side of the court, as he’s going to lose his shit if LBJ does stupid Hero ball stuff Rondo himself wouldn’t have done. Hell, Rondo is not so far removed, that in practice he might even dress up in 5v5 to make a point 😂. I’ve been saying for years that Ty Lou is a great head coach, because when the Cavs fired Blatt for spotting up Kevin Love in the corner and not using him well, Ty Lou made excellent adjustments to make it work. I would go so far as to say that not even Spoelstra could make good use of Chris Bosh, and basically had him in spot ups a lot too. Ty Lou is a coach that has a proven track record of not forcing an offense onto a team, and designing an offense tailor made just for the star players they have. Ty Lou isn’t a ‘modern NBA’ stats slave, and isn’t going to play small ball and spread out for the sake of chucking 3s unless that is what the team is built to do. I have no doubt in my mind that Ty Lou should be the top candidate on this list, although I think Rondo could potentially be even better than him, but I think the Lakers may not have had him on the list, because he’s in the midst of legal issues, and if it got out he was a coaching candidate, his rulings in court could be made in such a way to screw him out of the job. I don’t know if they are considering Rondo or not, but I think if they are, it’s better if they leave that undercover. Im out on Bud, but I don’t think he was a small ball slave like Ham. Bud had a big team, and he used them, but they didn’t have any back up centers, just a bench of guards coming off the bench with Portia as the sole big man, so I’m sure they were small at times, but their starting line-up is huge, although Brook is usually out on the perimeter, so that size might be overstated a bit, so I’m not going to go as far as saying that Bud is more of the same just because Ham came from his coaching tree. For example, Luke Walton came from the Kerr/Phil tree, and you wouldn’t say that Luke’s failure is an indictment on them. Hell, those coaches ran motion offense, and Luke claimed he didn’t want to run on in LA, because the team is too young and not smart enough to understand, which was a mistake, because they were young moldable players. We saw how Carmelo rebelled against Derrick Fisher/Phil’s triangle offense, despite that offense being perfect for Carmelo. Bud is just clearly another coach that doesn’t optimize his roster, and will be a yes man to LBJ, but I wouldn’t dare put him in the same tier as Ham. Bud is actually a solid head coach, and has the resume to back it up, but I think most of that is regular season fluff, as he has had a very talented Bucks squad that should have been able to win 2 rings, but the Bucks just got outplayed by less talented teams. Could we win a chip with Bud…yeah, but we don’t want to do things the hard way anymore, and we need a coach that fits post LBJ, and Bud simply isn’t in the top 3 on of the coaching prospects you mentioned. Kenny Atkinson is one of those ‘modern NBA’ proponents that is a stats slave. Is he mike D’antoni esque? No, but I don’t think he’s going to run an offense that suits the Lakers’ stars. I think he will try to force the status quo offense on the Lakers, no different from Ham. Kenny Atkinson, even if he uses a ‘modern’ offense that I don’t think optimizes the Lakers’ stars, he is still a far better coach than Ham. I wouldn’t be mad if we hired him, because I think that what he did with the young Nets, and his wisdom to see what firestorm was coming to the Nets, proves he’s an intelligent man. I think he will be significantly better than Ham and Vogel were, and we could win a chip with him, because he’s a good coach, but I don’t think he fits our team better than Ty Lou or Rondo. For some time I didn’t like Kenny Atkinson as a coach, because I believe he could have had a star in Jahlil Okafor, who was never given a chance in the league, because just like James Wiseman, being drafted by a team that doesn’t need you, but drafted you because you were the best prospect at their pick, knowing they are just going to trade you later, kills their careers. Those teams don’t invest in you, and they cause you to have a terrible start, and some players don’t come back from that when they are then traded to other teams that view them as a project rather than the #2 pick with star potential, only because you weren’t used on the team that drafted you. I’m so glad Ayton went to the Blazers, because he too could have and arguably was being mismanaged. So when Okafor was traded to the Nets, I was hoping they would use him, but Kenny refused to play this man despite Okafor being dominant every opportunity he got. Kenny claimed it was for defensive reasons, so while I do not like how he handled Okafor, at least he did what he did for the sake of defense. I hope Kenny has that same energy towards defense, because Ham just went in all on offense, which is all good and dandy when we are rolling, but when we can’t score in the half-court, and our defense isn’t good enough to get stops and get into fast breaks, then we have no ways to get that offense rolling again, and the other team continues to roll us. So despite my biases, I can still say Kenny Atkinson would make a good coach, but if he didn’t want to deal with Kyrie and Durant, I don’t know how he’s going to do with LBJ blowing coverages on defense.

      I'd probably agree with that. Although, i am a strong Advocate for David Adleman being he is a coach's son in HOF HC Rick Adleman. David is on the Nuggets & apparently he is tasked to run the offensive schematics among other aspects but i like how Nuggets share the ball & their offensive schematics overall so he is high on my list of coaching options. Ofc, we know Ty Lou isn't available atm & the clippers may be petty & keep him just so we don't get him lol. I would not be shocked. I also like Micah Nori of the Wolves who is a good asst as well so i'd probably place them over Rondo. I like Atkinson as well & probably place over Rondo but IF lue was available i'd take lue over everyone for championship pedigree, bron familiarity and overall his coaching. Although, he does play small a lot which i dont like but the clippers lack size in the front court so thats probably why & Zubac is unplayable a lot down the stretch to be fair. Perhaps you may be right on the Bosh aspect but i do think it's difficult to coach around Lebron which having players stand in the corner in the bron system. Yeah i agree on Ty and what you're saying. Some folks are saying JJ could be a ty Lue/Pat riley type lol and i think thats going too far but who knows. Yeah Rondo not on the list to be interviewed reportedly & idk if thats because of the legal matters he's facing or has faced off the court or whatever but i wish he was on the list and or at the least i'd like him to be an asst coach on the lakers coaching staff. Well good thing the suns hired Bud lol so we good there. Im not trying to hire someone that Ham learned from lol. Exactly he is lol. Giannis saved that man's job when they won a chip cause he was set to get canned. To be even more scrupulous i can make the argument that Kyrie & Harden plus KD big ass toe lol saved Bud's job cause no diss to the Bucks but they wouldn't of won lol & KD nearly beat them by himself lol. Even with just Kyrie or Harden they could of beat the Bucks. Coach Bud adjustments was suspect as well & rotations at times leading to complications down the road & not adjusting to teams building a wall around Giannis. Offense was too predictable and didnt have enough zest/ imagination. Right couldn't agree more on what u said on Bud. We need a HC for now & post bron so we have to hit a homerun on this next coaching hire. Thats probably far being Atkinson didn't make it as far as ham as a HC. The reason i like Atkinson because of his ability to be a good PG coach & to develop talent as he did with the Nets. I think with more time with Kerr he probably has learned more from his previous HC'ing stint but who knows so it's somewhat of a risk to be fair & your pts of him or criticisms of him are fair. Naw he doesn't fit it more than Lue. I think If we was going youth movement with or without AD than yeah. However, i do believe he has good potential to be a more rounded coach pass development. I was impressed with his work turning Dlo into an all star & putting guys like Allen on the map & the Nets at the time on the map when they was ass prior. So that tells me he can take talent & mold it into something good or better than expected. Yeah with Okafor i believe it was the defensive issues & slow feet he had which Kenny wasn't keen on being he apparently likes to play switch defense or likes his bigs to be able to do that so with okafor falling at that time to be out of the league Kenny wasn't into him so that unfortunate but i believe u gotta have a more athletic team that can cover ground for Okafor being he's pretty slow footed & not a good rim protector at all so he only provides half court offense as a go to option as big in the post & he plays slow with Atkinson liking more up tempo to a degree so Okafor didn''t really fit what Kenny was trying to do there. Yeah we'll see what happens. Like that the lakers are taking their time here. Their deadline is to have a HC in place 1 week before the draft tops.

    Trading for Dejounte wouldn’t have changed the fate of our matchup with Denver. We have guards that can stay with Murray. Murray was blowing past guys. He hit daggers over great contests. Our main issue with Denver is Jokic. Trading for a more athletic guard is still what we need in general, but against Denver, that guy is just going to get screened out the play all the same. It’s what happened Schroeder and Vando last year. Lakers need to be able to play defense without doubling Jokic half the time. It’s doubling Jokic that is why all these other guys on Denver pop off. So do we need better 2-way athletes at the guard spots? Sure, but until we get a proper center, we still lose to Denver. Maybe with Dejounte we win 2 games this series instead of 1, but we still lose.

    • @TheLakeShow
      @TheLakeShow Před měsícem

      I agree but it would improve our future given Dejounte's ceiling is high esp as a top imo 30-45 player in the NBA plus his age & two way impact on a team friendly contract under 30 mill its definitely something you want to have but lakers decided not trade so now they have 3 firsts round picks plus swaps, plus 3-4 second rounders. I believe they should disperse their assets with young talent to trade to address starting center, starting PG, back up bruising centers, and two way players at all other positions off the bench that are physical and lastly a Shot creator like a malik monk type. If lakers can do that plus add a good HC they will be back in business imo if not get a top 10-20 all star player but the issue is depth so we will see come the off season how they move the needle with competing against Wolves, OKC, and Nuggets etc.

  • @Eastra3

    I am also worried that upper management cannot recognize a good coach from a bad coach either. Jeannie bus has access to the greatest coach of all time, but remember that half the people in the Lakers’s organization don’t even believe in Phil Jackson. I do think that Phil was biased to the coach he hired in Fisher, because he knows the Triangle offense, and that undermined his reputation as a GM, but funny enough I think the Triangle offense is perfect for the Lakers with AD and LBJ. With all these teams trying to spread out and chuck 3s, almost no offense has less than 4 players out on the perimeter at the start of any play. Lakers are great at the Pick n Roll, but when teams want to switch everything, it stops the PnR action. Once they switch and you have the preferable mismatches, then you want to run a motion offense so it’s not just ISO when your pick n roll gets stuffed. The Triangle is the perfect motion offense for two dominant post/elbow scorers, because the offense makes it impossible to double either post play without getting severely punished. With AD being the only player in the paint, the defense can load up on his side and send doubles, but with another player on the opposite side of the post, Lakers can easily get the ball to the other post player where the defense won’t be able to simply play post denial or double, as they will have to pick their poison between the two post players. I wrote like a whole essay on some other video about the triangle offense and how it’s perfect for us to run alongside our PnR, and maybe I’ll go back and find it and put it in the comments, but I think you know how the Triangle works. It was made for mid post players. Even if LBJ leaves, if we pair AD up with a talented center, we should still run it. However, it doesn’t even have to be another big. Kobe and Jordan were often playing the opposing post of their other post big. So even if we got DeRozan that would be good for that offense. I’m of the belief that you only need 3 good 3 pt shooters on the floor, but these days no coach feels like they can run their offense without 4 or 5 spread. Only problem is that multiple banana boat crew players spoke out against Phil Jackson and his vaunted Triangle offense, mostly Carmelo and LBJ, and so I don’t see LBJ wanting to be apart of Phil Jackson’s legacy offense, even if it’s the best offense for the Lakers. Most of the time AD pops off in the first half, he can’t get barely any shot attempts in the 2nd half, and it’s not because the ball isn’t passed to him, but that he gets doubled and makes the right play by passing it back out, but the defense then dictates the Lakers have to find another way to score, and that is probably why LBJ gets tired in the 2nd half and why our offense sputters. Triangle offense would eliminate both these issues at once. LBJ wouldn’t get tired playing in the post/elbow opposite AD, and defenders wouldn’t be able to double AD off of LBJ, because AD could just lob it over the double to LBJ, and if the defense loads up on AD’s side, the baseline corner wing just runs to the other baseline and creates a new triangle on the other side aka a new strong side, and LBJ then gets to post up, which is not as tiresome as driving over and over. Also LBJ will score easily on most people in the post, and if the double comes from AD’s man, AD is open for the lob. If the double comes from the outside, you play monkey in the middle. If they try to front the post entry, swing the ball from the arc rather than the baseline. There is no guaranteed bucket in the Triangle. All it does is make sure your superstar post players can’t get doubled, and you trust your stars to win those 1v1s.

      Well i echo your concern because we don't have legit bball minds running the lakers & the FO other than imo the young buss brothers in joey & jessie buss who have done a good job in the G league & finding hidden talent like caruso & reaves etc for example. I do believe the triangle offense is good ONLY IF bron ACTUALLY buys into it. In the offense u need a dominant to skilled big which AD fits the mold. You don't need an actual PG to run it and thats another reason why i like Atkinson which i should of mentioned before to you in the other responses on another video, but Kerr runs variations of the triangle. I'm pretty sure Atkinson will run a lot of things he's learned from Kerr over the years. However, my belief as to why Atkinson did not take the Hornets job or recanted is because Kerr is grooming him to take over the GSW job imo but we'll see. Yes. Their is VERY LITTLE NUANCE in the league with teams trying to out 3 one another so an OS approach to things would be beneficial given we have AD who is not really a shooting big & does far better going towards the cup & the triangle can unlock more of his skills and as you highlight in the elbows/ post esp if Bron buys in & plays more in the post they can really unlock the Triangle. Yeah Triangle can slow it down for AD in the 4th where he can pace himself as you alluded to him going off in the 1st half. We need him down the stretch more than ever now with how Bron is slowing down & father time hitting. We seen more evidence of that this past playoffs with Bron not even scoring double digits or barely having impact in the 4th.

    Lakers didn’t respect the Nuggets, and it’s why they got beat by them the last two years. Lakers are not undersized vs most teams in the NBA, but against Denver they are. The Lakers thought they didn’t have to make roster moves just for Denver, and thought they could overcome their size discrepancy against them. Some of us have been saying the past couple years that AD can’t defend Jokic 1v1, and this year we also found out he can’t guard Sabonis either. People and their empty stats want to talk about AD offensively being superior at the 5 compared to the 4, but it’s only statistically better by a few percentages of efficiency. What about the defensive end? AD is as good defensively at the 4 as he is the 5 statistically they say, so due to the offense he should play the 5 they say. They don’t stop and look at the fact that those stats are an average against many teams and don’t show the advantages and disadvantages against specific teams. AD has serious defensive mismatches at the 5, but not at the 4. Then, because most teams have their PF playing stretch 4, the center is the one running screens with the guard. Well AD said many time that despite him being elite in PnR defense, he is even better at playing safety on defense, and when he’s the center he can’t do that, but the PF can do that. AD has made it clear in so many post conferences over the years how he’s better defensively at the 4, but that his coaches disagree. Some of these coaches are stats slaves, but I sincerely think upper management and the coaching staff are conspiring to keep AD at the 5 so LBJ can coast defensively at the 4. This is causing us to be too small against certain teams, and it’s getting us beat. It reminds me of when we played D’antoni’s Rockets, who outplayed us in every statistical category except rebounding, but their head coach was too stubborn to accept that rebounding discrepancies were enough to get you beat. Let me not get started about D’antoni, or I’ll be ranting about his stupid philosophy for ever. Lakers basically the 2020 Rockets, and the Nuggets are the 2020 Lakers. Finishing up my point, the Lakers should have learned their lesson that the Nuggets are good enough that you need to use a roster spot and some decent money for a strong center that won’t get bullied by Jokic. All roads likely lead through Denver for the next 10 years, so playing small in the west is only asking to get eliminated at some point. Now with the T-wolves being good, Lakers could potentially have two size disadvantages if they continue to play this small front court. I hope Denver or The T-wolves win the chip this year so this analytical small ball bullshit can be recognized for what it is…one of many ways to skin a cat…not this “only way in the modern NBA” blasphemy. I thought the Nuggets winning last year sent that message, but seems most of the NBA didn’t get the memo.

      Yeah & thats why they lost among other reasons. Well Denver ACTUALLY utilizes their size unlike the lakers so that makes them more effective with being bigger per se. Well it's not realistic long term to expect AD to defend & cover for 4 other players on the floor than put up 25-30pts,, 13 rebs, and 3 blocks. It's way too much to ask. YEah well said on AD. The lakers bottom line have to assist AD with getting another starting center & having more center depth that can assist him & two way players on the wing like 2020 & until than the lakers will not go far as a team. We failed AD not Bron.

    The coaches you mentioned all make good sense. I’m a fan of Rondo. He may not have head coach experience, but he gives me Steve Ker vibes, where he could have immediate success.

      @Eastra3 Před měsícem

      @@TheLakeShow No one in particular. For me, I’m just looking for certain philosophies they have. If the first thing that comes out of their mouth about our offense is that we need to modernize and shoot more 3s, I know they are a joke. If they say we need to find more ways to get LBJ to play point guard, automatically disqualified. If they say they want to implement an offense from their former team, despite their personnel is very different, its a sign they only know how to run 1 offense, so instant elimination. If they say they are going to value rest over practice time, don’t let the door hit you on the way out, because clearly the Lakers were poorly coached and needed a lot more practice time. Now something that no coach will say coming in is that they will hold LBJ accountable, but we need a coach that isn’t afraid to bench LBJ for making dumb ass mistakes on defense over and over again.

    I don’t think we can judge Pelinka, because clutch sports has its tentacles in upper management, and Pelinka has been serving the requests of LBJ at the behest of Jeannie Bus to keep LBJ happy, because that is the brand she is selling to attract future stars. If we want to win sooner rather than later, we would trade LBJ and pair AD with another star, but the Lakers don’t want to betray their reputation of treating stars like kings, so they rather sacrifice the winning moves for long term reputations. I understand where they are coming from, because it was that farewell tour for Kobe that probably sold other stars like LBJ to come to the Lakers.

      Idk about that. Think Pelinka although klutch is a problem still has to do better. Eliminating the 2020 team to prioritize offense plus letting bron strong arm him for Russ trade and than this past yr not getting bigs and more PG depth and having a bigger team was an issue. Also now, not trading Dlo & he opts out for nothing when u could of but didnt want to plus reaves..so i have to hold him accountable plus the coaching hires to a degree as well. I agree S&T Bron and keep AD but AD may wanna follow so imo trading him to OKC or Knicks (Because of their shit ton of 1st rd picks plus young talent) would be ideal IF he wants out too. Yeah we will see. BIG OFFSEASON coming up.

    I liked the 2020 crew. Rondo, carushow, javale McGoat, howard, KCP. But today's team did have enough manpower to beat denver. Murray isnt even an all star. The lakers seem more stacked than denver on paper
