Agh, I think it's time I got educated on all the subtleties of K5LAs Edit: After comparing them for a few minutes, I guess I've been noticing in recent years that it seems like the K5LAs on 9800-series and up NS Dash 9s sound different from the ones up to that point... also, sounds similar to the ones that were on NS SD70Ms. 2nd gen is just a little less musical/harmonic than 1st gen, from what I can gather. Raised letter is a whole different sound though and super easy to identify.

@@LotusbandicootRR Also NF 1PC means 2nd Gen too and 2nd Gen sounds more calming and relaxing while a 1st Gen sounds dull.

Yep, runs on the Nickel Plate Express, still out of Noblesville. Only runs up to Atlanta at the farthest north now though, and usually they just turn around at Arcadia.

Thanks! Tipton was my hometown for the first 23 years of my life and the old depot was on my regular walking route all those years. At least NS is treating it better than the one in Plymouth.

That's probably closer to what it used to be... I think I heard there are about 14 daily trains nowadays? For a while there recently I'd spend a few hours there in the afternoon and see up to 5 some days... even just a couple months later, it feels like I'm lucky to catch just 1.

Seriously. Huge props to the guy who kept me updated on the whereabouts today, it'd been far too long since the last time I heard one of these. Sounds straight out of a railfan's home videos of CSX and NS from the early '90s.

Yep! Ever since they built that apartment building over by the crossing on 13, I've been noticing a lot more Doppler echoes on the trains coming into town. Also it sounded just like this old recording of CSX 7713 from the early '90s... almost eerily similar. czcams.com/video/SKhH4MiP5aM/video.html
