After doing the math, the land is work over 1.9 million today. 12,000$ per acre. The equivalent would have been for someone in 1884 would have been $52,000-$54,000 and not $18. Absolutely insane to think about

As a former band member in school (60s!) I typically favor instrumental music and shy away from aceppela groups, but I've loved harmonies since my Mom discovered I was harmonizing with Mitch Miller's TV show when I was 10! So, I loved hearing this group sing!

They talk about how tough it was then and it was. Think. No public water, sewer systems, trash pick up, no modern meds, or Drs., buggies to ride in. We have everything within reach. Out there was nothing. If you didn't do your chores you could compromise your abilities to survive. Don't feed or water the chickens they die. Don't pen them up the predators get them. There goes your eggs, meat, hens to raise the baby chicks. Has drastic trickle effect.

These are the ancient Celtic harps that are strung with wire instead of gut or nylon. It’s a magical, silvery sound. The wire string can make tremendous tension on the frame so these harps are sometimes apt to explode! Ann recognized that she is the servant that unlocks the voice of the instrument. We are allowed to hear the voice of the people from long ago.

The 'winners' write the history. Sometimes they're the 'Good Guys', sometimes they're the other guys, depending upon which side you're on. If you have A Cause, for which you have to risk your life, best of luck. Hopefully, it doesn't put Us (whomever 'we' happen to be at the time) at risk.

Devils Lake Endorheic Basin is just that, an Endorheic Basic. Anyone who lives under the natural spill-over level needs to understand they are in a flood plain, and are build "under lake level" as it were. It's their own risk they are taking, and it's up to them to build dikes if they want to reclaim land. It just seems that the natural state of things isn't being considered with the Devils Lake Endorheic Basin. It's like when a lake suddenly goes down because of draught, and then everybody decides to build in the newly dry lake bed, only to have it flooded when it goes up again.

Sacagawea, was only mentioned by name once or twice in the journals of the 2 1/2 year expedition. She was generally referred to as “the indian woman” or as “one of Charbonneau’s wives”. While on the journey she gave birth to a baby boy, who was named Jean-Baptiste. Following the expedition she left the baby to be raised by Clark and there is no record of her returning to see him again. Clark wrote that she never displayed emotions, high or low, and believed if she had trinkets and food, she could be quite content anywhere. She was noted for her hard work. Lewis described her husband Charbonneau as “a man of no particular merit”. She helped at least once as an interpreter when contact was made with her own tribe. Other than that, the men were extremely capable with sign language, so they communicated directly with the many different tribes who they encountered during the rest of the trip. She never acted as a “guide” to the Corps, but did communicate that she recognized the surrounding land in the area of her old village. Today, along with Big Mike Obama, Sacagawea is the most recognized woman in America!

People coming to prove out a homestead knew hard work was the cost of the privilege of coming to America. It was NOT a cost they put on their neighbors, tax-payers, or anyone else. THAT is the difference of people today who come. To just DEMAND everything for "free" means they expect citizens to pay for them! Hard work vs. Entitlement.
