I have to play songs to practice, I have ADHD, diagnosed as an adult. I played Purple Haze for a year straight, practiced nothing else starting Jan 2023, it is now Jan 2024. I recorded myself playing and I have made a huge leap in how I sound, and doing this approved my playing in general. I am still not great, and still learning, but I am better than I was last year, by a LOT!
ps: I only started playing again in Jul/Aug of 2022 I cut a tendon in my left/fretting hand in 2008 and couldn't play until I got my hand in shape. I have some chronic health and pain issues, that is why it took so long for me to play again. I could physically play the guitar, but after 1 minute of playing, it felt like someone stuck a hot soldering iron up my hand through my finger. I was learning to play left-handed, which was easy, but the guitar I has set up for left-handed play was stolen, and I didn't feel like alterning another guitar for something that was a 'might work'. pps: guitar thieves should get the same punishment as kiddy diddlers. Maybe worse.

I have ADHD as well and learning and retaining has been a battle. I forget chord progressions I played for 2 hours the day after. Still love it and will never stop. 😂

Very honest and interesting. It's amazing what you can do with the notes of a chords.
yeah, I was listening to John Frusciante the other day, his solo work, and he made a song out of strumming a chord, then picking some of the notes of the chord, and then doing the same thing with another chord. I know this is nothing new, but it really helps when you are learning, which is why "Hotel California" is often taught to beginners (still haven't learned that song, LOL). What tripped my out was that I was able to figure out what John Frusciante was doing just listening to it on my phone while out on a walk. I am still learning to play, an Intermediate player at best.
