I remember 2 cases when my ETW gameplay became extremely economical: 1. My India invation as Prussia. India was united by Marathas by then and was really strong, stronger than anyone in Europe and even pushing in Persia, even up to Iraq. I have landed 2 full stacks which I really struggled to move further. But meanwhile my Kaiserliche Marine have destroyed he Indian fleet and started ravaging their ports non-stop. In several turns, Maratha was totally bankrupt. They even had a revolution at their capital which was suspended, but, as they were bunkrupt, the replanishment never came. After that, my armies just marched all through India like it was a parade -- no serious resistance was faced. So the glorious India fell despite having good western technologies, decent and big army and humongous territory -- they just couldn't protect their money. 2. My whole game as Netherlands, I had Austria as an ally and a trade partner. But as they lacked naval forces, thaeir ports have been raded many times -- and in those cases I started losing shitloads of money. So despite being absolutely uninterested in Central/Eastern Europe affairs (even shielded with long buffer state to avoid it), I had no choice but to get into those wars and protect the bloody austrian seaside. And when I was pissed off completely, I conquered the whole swedish clay and some lands in Baltics. Despite the situation being pretty anoying, it's also quite exciting and realistic: geting into war not just to paint the map on your color, but to protect your money.

Man this brought the feels back! Excellent work! I put thousands of hours into this series as a kid and my fav will always be the original N64 XG title (two was awful IMO, really let me down as a kid when I brought it home and popped in the cartridge, hadn't felt as burned since I did the same thing when I got Mario Bros 2 the day it came out!). XGRA seems to be really polarizing for people who play it. I personally really enjoy it but a lot of people hate it. I don't get that but to each their own and different strokes and all that. Anyway... Just letting you know I appreciate your take and upload!

In a podcast the developer of Imperium Galactica 1-2 were talking trash about this game, but the truth is that the Jupiter Incident is so much better that IG 1 and 2, that they are now even in the same league.

Xg series is owned by a company called throwback games who acquired alot of ips and games from acclaim and for turok fans sorrry its not them or disney you want to bitch at for a remake trilogy its dreamworks believe it or not as most valliant comic ip went to classic media before that got eaten by dreamworks

It was a bit too ambitious for the time but I prefer that over the unambitious dlc ridden garbage we get nowadays from Creative Assembly

What I like about Nexus is that ships actually travel in 3D space and not on a flat horizontal plane like how most games does it.

This game was out before hearts of iron and lets you roleplay pretty much the same. It just takes imagination and thus game becomes endless

I have been playing empire for years without any mods even if the ai and some part of the game were generally mega dumb, cause the era, the scale, the beauty, the ships details etc, tried empire 2 in the last weeks and wow i ll prolly play it like forever. I wish we will end up with a entire world map total war and be able to play anywhere and with no bugs and failed ia. I kinda dream of a ww1ra total war too, noit sure what it could look like tho with planes but maybe like agents with missions. Also you said we "get that" or something in empire talking about 100 000 troups battles, but, we don't, not even close :P

I played XGR3 for the first time back in 2021 when i was looking for games to emulate using dolphin on my phone, i loved everything about it the great music, good tracks although i would have prefered to have more tracks, and especially the high skills needed to finish 1st, i still play it from time to time on my phone

Musket warfare is essentially melee warfare at an extended range lol but with the option to bayonet charge for closer melee combat

Linear warfare is great because unlike melee total wars it actually has quite a lot of tactical skill and therefore has better multiplayer

I think I played a demo disk or something because I could swear I played it on a PC, but I also agree that it is a hidden underated gem. There's a reason why, after almost 2 decades from when I played it one afternoon, I spent 2 weeks trying to rack my brain for the smallest of details that could help me find the game (I kept getting results for Wipeout which even when accounting for the fuzziness of old nostalgia didn't quite match up to memory).

No its not the best. Could be with a lot of rework or another sequel. But Empire Total War its horrible, and the naval battle was a nice addition but dont save the game at all.Don't let nostalgia mess with facts.

one of the best game engines ever made imho.

Fall off the samurai is the best total war his only weak point compared to the others is the fact it is the small map scale and faction variety

1- I think the Mass Effect series has a lot to owe to this franchise, even with that series being more about boots on the ground combat, the kernel of the theme of humans having to fight in the galaxy and interacting with you crew mates between missions makes it so much more of a story rather than just a simple coin op game where the objective is to kill the player fast enough they have to spend a bunch of quarters to get through the game fighting. 2-When the 3D0 home video game system was no longer the hot tech and PlayStation 1 took over the market, I purchased a used 3D0 for that game. I only saw a little bit about WC3 but was heavily intrigued by it. I found a few other gems for that system also, loved Road Rash and Twisted. While buying a high tech computer was beyond my ability with no job, justifying the low cost used system is something I never regretted, I still own it! 3- I have not play this on the 3D0 in so long that I cannot recall how the game handled. I do remember I loved that with no secret cheat code, nor any need to install mods, I could just go into the settings and turn on an invulnerable mode, this let me see the whole story even if I was not good enough to survive every mission!

Those who hated probably never learned how to use combo me and my brother loved the game so many epic soundtracks as well

I'd like to see something in Africa as well but it would require a lot more resources to make the complex continent I would imagine. All of Asia would be cool as well, but I forgot that would be just as complex and taxing on the system as Africa probably.

I actually prefer the N64 games, just personally found them more fun, but the 6th gen ones are still really good too, just different in a lot of ways. Naturally they have better graphics along with better framerates due to the more powerful hardware of the Gamecube/PS2, which is a big plus over the more sluggish N64 games. IMO the first game has the best music in the series as well..really great stuff. I would likewise love to see some talented devs obtain the rights to the IP and bring it back from the dead, but I don't have much hope of it ever happening. The series has been dead for so long now. 😑 Long gone are the late 90s/early 2000s glory days of futuristic racers. Nintendo hasn't made a new F-Zero in decades now, save for F-Zero 99 which I don't really consider a new game per se. At least we got Fast RMX. Fantastic game that everyone needs to play, essentially a modern day F-Zero.

NTW is better

There are some things I like better about Napoleon Total War....but Empire Total War remains the one that I have played the most, largely because of the enormous scope of the game and all the different factions. It makes for an almost endless number of possibilities. The nations I have most enjoyed managing are France, Spain, and Russia. Great Britain and Holland are great if you want to use a lot of naval strategy. The single campaign I like best is in Napoleon, the one starting in Europe in 1805, and ending with the capture of Moscow. A smart move for Napoleon is NOT to get tied down in Spain!!! Instead, leave the Spanish alone, keep them friendly, and they will remain as useful allies to the end. He made a very big mistake when he invaded Spain. It became a cancer that bled French strength and contributed greatly to his eventual defeat and exile. This can and probably should be avoided when playing the French in Napoleon Total War.

Going downhill while hitting the speedstroke followed up by a lighting strike (soundbarrier) was so epic about this game. Sadly, it was never remastered for a comeback :(

When I played Rome and Medieval 2 I basically just went all out on warfare and my economy was “take a place to fund the army needed to take the next place”. So when I got to Empire I hit a brick wall because that just does not work. But now over a decade later I do really enjoy it because you have to be a lot more calculated and you need to spend time just building your economy to fund future wars, and going to war is a very expensive affair because of the loss in trade. I remember playing as Britain and it was just me and Russia left and I couldn’t go to war with them without going bankrupt without someone to trade with, so I had to wait like 30 turns just building stuff to be able to afford being the only power in the world. Just so different to the other games that came before. Oh and building a first rate and watching it obliterate a Brig is so fun

Wing commander doesnt get the respect it deserves as the first immersive sim. You could develop relationships and complete missions in a myriad of ways and even FAIL missions but the world still spins regardless (or maybe I should say sagitarrius a still spins since its a galactic game?) The only thing that got me was Hobbes ALWAYS defecting. That really bothered me because I loved him and the view into Kilrah as something other than generic bad guys. It showed their honorable side. As an adult though I realize Hobbes HAS to defect because we are literally going to externinate his species and homeworld. Of course he cant abide that. I dont care how much you hate humans if someone was going to blow up earth youre not joining them.

Xgra wasnt horrible or anything but my least favorite in the series.
