I love how this thing sounds, but there's a lot of a gotchas. You can't edit the sounds without stopping the sequence, which makes it much less useful for live performance and improvisation than I had hoped. Reloop Spin scratches being looped on the Octatrack, Octatrack also faking the fader skills using an LFO since I don't have an extra hand yet. Freaq FM is generating random FM sequences which get recorded into the Octatrack and cut up to give consistent loops using slices to create AAABAC type sequences. M8 here to look pretty and let me record into my phone since Octatrack doesn't have USB aud...

Sound really nice. I am new to M8. Do I need to know some music theory to use Hypersynth?
not really, just set it to a scale and go nuts. that said learning some beginner music theory can really help and doesn't take much effort.

You mention changing the sounds whilst playing: wouldn’t Parameter Lock set to orange sort that?
I can switch to a different preset yes, but not edit the timbre of the current sound. Basically it seems you can either use it as a preset sequencer, or as a monotimbral synth you can edit, but not both at the same time.

I am very new to this. Right now I am wondering if there is an easy way to tweak those numbers and bars? Like a midi interface with knobs and sliders, is it possible to just plug and play a midi keyboard like a launchkey mk3?

Also all of the minutia in your exploration of the FM synthesis screen is useful in my understanding of how the sounds are constructed. Enlightening. Have a Happy New Year. Incidentally one of the first instruments that you created really did sound like sort of a Christmas chime which I've been hearing all around me as it is Christmas time where I am at, and the bells, the bells are endless! 🎄

There's a few different ways to do chords, hypersyn is a new way. Check out my previous chord video to see the old methods
@@impbox thanks I like the way how you do chords in hypersyn compared to the other method you showed. Wasn't sure my M8 hasn't arrived if you could do the chord feature south in this video for example in the FM synth. Just wait for my brain to understand
Very cool! Is it possible to hook up a midi keyboard through usb and have the notes recorded in from the keyboard? If only monophonic because of the m8 track specs(?) it would already be handy imo for live input instead of programming in the note events using the tracker. EDIT; ah I see it is possible :) watching at the 41 min part right now.
Yes, you can record and enter notes monophonically via midi, but not across multiple tracks

This was a great deep dive into the chord feature. I wasn't going to at first, but then I restarted the video and did everything you did and I learned so much. Is TIC01 or TIC06 on the last line a convention? Since the HOPs come before the TIC, logic would imply that it never reaches the TIC instruction, but perhaps it knows to look for a TIC from the last line as soon as playback starts?
great tutorial... i am now in phase of trying convince myself i don't need M8 because i have ipad/iphone for mobile musicmaking, but this tutorial doesn't helping to that purpose at all LOL - actually exact opposite ... this M8 is really SUPER DEEP super powerful device ..
Also, there is a huge market potential if someone makes a really good tracker for iOs... now there are only a few and they are dated and some look fairly chaotic. I got an og m8 today, so I don't need it any longer, but it's been baffling me for some time that no one has capitalized or even tried to on the tracker idea on iOs.

This sounds rly pretty thank you for making this!! I can't wait to get my M8 and try it soon... Would it be a difficult process, once you got this working, to record yourself playing a bit and then render it to a sample so it doesn't take up all 8 tracks? I know Dirtywave M8 has built-in rendering for stuff like that but I don't think I've seen anyone walk through the whole process yet.
