Edit: Post here is a unrelated observations had while playing through recently after getting inspired to do so by binging this channel's content recently. Wouldn't the harvest maiden be the "cherished symbol of bounty and fertility" that actually occupies the cathedral? Or is supposed to anyway. Starting to think the 1st Son Rebellion was for defying the Nito arrangement after Dad went to link the flames-- Gods all be incestuous, ofc. Possibly unrelated, but also, the one old man on the wood panel that makes up the fog door to OnS looks a lot like The Father mask-- currently theorizing that the Father is All Father Lloyd, the Child is Manus (look closely at it, there are real similarities to the Child face and the shape of the head of Manus. It is at least fair to say that no other character in the game has even close to the same hair besides Manus). Not sure who that makes The Mother, and therefore The Mother of the Primeval Man--- Velka perhaps? Haven't really worked this one all the way out. Also helps it make sense that there are many copies of those masks and patches sells them-- they are not the faces of the people who make up Pinwheel, but representations of those people as the archetypes most popular in the world.

I haven't discovered this channel until recently. I've been a long-time Dark Souls fan, but after not playing the games for years, the story and its messages have faded away. and yet the timing I found this video could not have been better. I hit 26 years old not too long ago, and I've been struggling to look at my own life in a way that sees purpose in it. My creative endeavors get stymied behind poor self-discipline and work-based exhaustion. I've been feeling more and more mediocre. But then I heard that Miyazaki was in his 30s when he finally managed to join FROM. That was what I needed to hear more than anything.

I heared that the enemies with the bubble horn are celebrating a new age of the new God, and with that being said, I think that the curling movement /in carvings on the weapons, are a sign of the god who once lived in the golden age and died an unfair dead he is godwin the golden. So I do think that every enemy with this kind of engraving has something to do with, godwin the golden.

I loved this video. I just wanted to share something that I recently noticed. On 11:27 you say a half insectoid woman, I used to think this myself but recently I was replaying DS3 and noticed that Rosaria is fully human, you can even see her legs in the footage you used. I feel like the insect like being is maybe one of her followers and she is comforting it. P.S. I haven't tried attacking or the insect like being beside her to see if they share damage, this may serve as evidence suggesting they are the same being but, in classic Dark Souls fashion, you could very well make an argument for why they share damage even when they are separate beings.

The thing is with both DS 2 and 3, there’s a little bit of ambiguity as to whether or not that was the real Orenstein or just an illusion of him. There’s a miscellaneous boss fight in DS2 of somebody that looks kind of like Ornstein, but he’s nowhere near as fast or powerful. And DS3 you find his armor and weapon set, just kind of out in the open in an area full of dragon worshipers. It’s kind of implied that he might have ended up, turning into the dragon that you end up one shoting.

I suppose if the Erdtree was an aspect of the crucible maybe Golden Order was faction within the crucible collective that broke from the crucible, like a schism in religions and so started out as the heretics who then become independent and take over which then causes the crucible to collapse and the war with giants and all other 'sects' within the crucible kinda like how the Roman Empire splits and Golden Order was the one who took over and last standing.

Marika never existed in the lands between, she is just a fiction for the people to follow, she is radagon. Radagon is Marika. It is not like a soul split in two bodies or some crazy stuff like all the theorists believe. He is the god of elden ring. But the people of the lands between thinks that he is a she. I've had an epiphany that The Lands Between are named thusly because they were once vertically between the Eternal Cities below and the temples of Farum Azula above. The Divine Towers may have reached to Farum Azula, or at least the one isolated tower, or perhaps a central tower that is now gone. Obviously now Farum Azula has drifted away or been forcefully moved, possibly by whatever has caused a gigantic area of land between Leyndell and Caelid to be completely missing [kept watching the video, agree with a meteorite extinction event]. Some of this area does appear to be in the Shadow Realm from the DLC. God I love this lore and I hope we get some more questions answered soon.

this channel's theories are getting more disjointed each video. It's speculating a lot on things without really a reason to do so, while ignoring a lot of other info, and not really comparing how much more weight something may have - as if one synonim of a word was as valid as several items and environmental clues. You're not presenting many alternatives, but rather "It seems this was the answer" and quickly moving on. It seems more like the authors are trying to get their point across and searching for evidence in support of that, rather than checking everything and building different hypothesis from the game itself. Feels like a Tarnished Archeologist video with less detail, less showing and more telling. Like a Vaati video with a whole lot more speculation without little expalation of what is certain and what is a possibility.

Yeah, this timeline is... Really not good. Placing the Crucible and the arrival of the Golden Comet this late in the timeline is a complete misunderstanding of the very foundations of the world of Elden Ring as explained in its dialogues and descriptions. First of all, we know for a fact that the creation of life, "births and souls", was something done by the Greater Will in primordial times. The Three Fingers, a thing that has definitely no interest in glorifying the Greater Will, tells us so, and they, through Hyetta's dialogue, tell us that the creation of life was the "mistake" of the Greater Will they want to fix by melting everything down. The Crucible did, indeed, contain all life within itself in the past. This in a literal sense, we see how all kinds of animal features were mixed within its power and to this day it causes mutations in animals and people due to its life-giving powers. It was red-gold since the beginning, and it was the primordial form of what, much later, would become the Erdtree. The Erdtree, and thus the Crucible as well, is closely related to the Elden Ring that served as its foundation, and so we can now make our initial timeline. The Greater Will, in primordial times, sent down a golden comet with the Elden Beast inside, which became the Elden Ring. The Greater Will, through its vassal beast and the Elden Ring, created life, births and souls, on the lifeless planet by also creating the Crucible, the life-giving power that would later grow into a large tree, and much later on the Erdtree. Then came the Dragons, ruled by the Elden Lord Placidusax and its god, a true god like Marika who contained the Elden Ring. After the Dragons came everyone else, and after a long while Giants developed, humans as well, Placidusax's god somehow fell from grace and Marika arrived to take her place, although this is a very nebulous moment of time. There is no Greattree, it's been explained years ago how it's a mistranslation. There is only one golden tree in the lore, it's the Erdtree/Crucible that existed since primordial times and created life on Earth. Life couldn't exist before the Golden Comet, because with no Elden Ring there's no life, which is something Ranni's dialogues, especially in the Japanese original, makes it perfectly clear. She knows that life is utterly tied to the Elden Ring, which is why her plan isn't to destroy it (which is the Flame of Frenzy ending), but inherit and then keep it far from Earth, so that life could continue existing without it being directly influenced by divine forces. The Fingers were also never given the Roundtable Hold until the Tarnished's return, which is a post-Shattering event and it wasn't even the real Roudtable. The whole characterization of the Fingers as uniquely invested in Marika's ascension at this stage is at odds with how the Fingers, like the Greater Will, actually really don't care who's in charge as long as someone is in charge. The Fingers only care to make sure that an empyrean is there to be able to contain the Elden Ring and ensure the continuation of "Order" in the world, whatever "Order" the god in charge may prefer. The Fingers willingly chose the Gloam-Eyed Queen, Malenia and her Rot, and Ranni and her Moon as acceptable alternatives to Marika's reign. The specific values of Marika's Golden Order aren't necessarily shared by the Fingers and the Greater Will who are operating at a higher level. Marika was literally the one true god, that is a true statement regardless of how slimy and morally bankrupt the Golden Order is. The empyrean who controls the Elden Ring is a true god, we know this for a fact as something that was happening since the Dragons, well before the Golden Order. The thing about Marika "search the depths of the Golden Order" is actually part of a larger quote of Marika's echoes that are actually somewhat odd in nature, because they talk about how her "comrades" (odd way for a goddess to refer to her followers, more suited for a general) needed to overcome "blind faith", and it's interesting how Golden Order Fundamentalism, founded by Radagon (who is also Marika), is all about mixing, or even replacing, Faith with Intelligence. Those spoken echoes of Queen Marika might actually be Radagon's, and marks the foundation of Golden Order Fundamentalism. And it makes perfect sense, because Radagon had studied Intelligence-based sorcery as Rennala's husband, so it was natural for him to apply his knowledge of scholarship to the understanding of the Golden Order. There's also no evidence that Radagon ever existed outside of Marika's influence, so the whole theorycrafting on how they fused at a later date seems unnecessary. As the game shows us, they were always one being of one body and two minds. Also, there is absolutely no mystery about the Erdtree's physicality in the game. We quite literally walk into it, when it physically burns it drowns a city in very real ash, and no plot point about such a notion exists in the game. This is TA-derived nonsense. That description is awfully interpreted, it's clearly asking a rhetorical question about how everyone can see the giant, luminous tree that gives life to the world. Good Lord, this obsession with looking for conspiracy theories where there are none. The "translucence" of the Erdtree unfortunately is meaningless, because it seems merely a visual glitch that goes away by looking at the thing with a telescope, and it's not even present at all by looking at the thing in entire other regions of the map. This is a very silly theory, that doesn't have a shred of written evidence to support it. The Erdtree could not have been burned. We know this, because the only flame what could do the deed was the flame of ruin of the Giants, who were defeated just to make that event impossible. Then, when Death was sealed, burning the Erdtree became a complete impossibility even with the Flame of Ruin. This is part of the main plot of the game by the way, the whole reason we have to go to the forge of the giants and then also kill Maliketh in order to burn a few thorns, that some people apparently have the gall to argue are just illusory too. 🙄 Attempting to tie the end of the Age of Plenty to an hypothetical early burning of the Erdtree is strictly impossible under current lore, because it would have been after the seal of the Rune of Death, it would have required the Flame of Ruin anyway that was also rendered dormant even if not extinguished, and in any case you'll see how none of the descriptions covering the end of the Age of Plenty ever even hint at any potential burning. It's just not a thing in the actual game's lore. Honestly, I'm going to stop trying to comment on everything wrong in this video because it's too much. Elden Ring has a very interesting lore with obscure points that would be interested to be explored. Why are we insulting the game and its writing by bringing up nonsense that's simply not in the game? The Erdtree isn't a ghost, it's not a plot point in the game. The Erdtree wasn't burned in that past, regardless of how much one tries to look at dust such a pivotal event simply doesn't exist in the large body of historical descriptions the game gives us. No, it's not the Golden Order conveniently censoring information, the descriptions are written by From employees. Like... This just seems like a big disservice to

Absolutely adore this video, extremely well put together, love the blending of prose and detailed lore explanation. You're one of the only channels that considers not only facts such as item descriptions, but also literary themes, metaphors, and symbolism. Think this will be a fantastic summary of the timeline as we understand it pre-DLC. The one thing I will say I disagree on is the portrayal of the ancient dynasty as a "rot civilization". I'm just nitpicking but nowhere besides the grand cloister is there any link at all between the ancient dynasty and rot. Personally, the grand cloister is symbolic of their civilization as a whole - once it covered the full lands between but now it's hard to tell they even existed - who they were and what they believed is fully up for debate. Their civilization has rotted away, leaving almost no remains.

Awesome video!! Sorry for the wall: Something interesting and very small about the design on the Icon shield is that you can see how the tree depicted on the shield was once the Crucible. It is a really small detail that is effortless to miss: In the depiction on the Icon Shield if we look at the branches of the tree, just below the leaves we see them do something odd. The branches are curved the same way that the branches of Siluria's tree/helmet are. When I would think of the Crucible's physical appearance I often relied on Siluria's imagery because of what the description stated. But after I noticed the Icon Shield I realized Siluria's spear and the Crucible tree helms depict the Crucible without its leaves. We can also see these curled branches in Blessed Dew Talisman. Taking these interpretations into account it becomes VERY clear the Erdtree of the Age of Plenty was an entirely different tree (even if it was one planted on the stump of the other.) I always found it odd how folks interpreted that Erdtree burial and the Golden Order as something happening at the same time. If the Golden Order is in play then Death is not a factor meaning Erdtree burial is not a factor. A lot of interpretations seem to like to overlap the Erdtree era with the Golden Order era. The Hero's Rune specifically seems to describe the age of Godfrey, pre-Golden Order. The rune reads "There were once heroes who walked the battlefields, abundantly blessed by the Erdtree itself, who upon earning their honor simply died." In the era of the Golden Order they wouldn't have "simply died" as these heroes would have gone on to new pursuits, the age of the Golden Order is an age of unending life. I feel like a big part of the reason Godfrey and the Tarnished were sent away has a lot to do with the fear of Death and their lack of it. We know that Malekith in the wake of gaining the rune of death was feared by everyone even the Demi-gods. Of course this has to be speak to post-Godfrey as Godfrey and the Tarnished armies did NOT fear death. To assume the Black Blade had Destined Death during the Age of the Erdtree is to assume that Godfrey was afraid of him and I just don't see that. Forget the tinfoil hat I'm putting on a tinfoil tux: I think Godfrey and the Tarnished were banished just prior to the inception of the Golden Order. I think they're violent and fearless nature in the face of death was problematic for future plans. I also imagine that if they were to learn of the plan to remove Destined Death that it would likely be opposed by Godfrey and the Tarnished. When the heroes fall they are given Erdtree burial and this feeds the Erdtree allowing it to produce its healing glow and precious sap. Without death the Erdtree starves and withers. Not to mention that during this time there is a theoretical possibility of rebirth through the Erdtree (a process that Radagon would stifle when he removes the rune of the Unborn prior to the Night of Black Knives)

This channel is wonderful, but I'm wondering why you're only doing lore for two of the games? Hopefully after you've squeezed every bit of story from these two games, you move on to DS2 and beyond.
