      Use a good 45 degree face mill and you should be able to do the same! Cutting forces are balanced both axially and radially with this type of cutter. This is a Mitsubishi ASX 445 I bought used, other options include Haas tooling and Shars. I wouldn't bother with some of the real cheap tooling you can find on eBay because I've had a bad experience were a cutter had over 0.004" of runout.

      You will need to buy the probing macros directly from Renishaw. In this case, I'm using the built-in Fadal probing macros modified to work like the Renishaw macros. Saw your ad on craigslist and ebay. I'm in Howell mi. Question? Can this type machine be converted to quick change tool holders? as I understand it now you need to unscrew the lower threaded bung? to change out the tool holder? Just wondering as that would make this so much better. I got to think if you could have converted it to air quick change you would have though. Another question, could a 5th axis be added with the control system as it is now? I got ideas for stuff that requires 5th axis. You should post a link in your description to your ebay listing. If you post the full link it should be clickable. Wish I could buy this but I just moved to MI & bought a ton of stuff this summer including a J head Bridgeport. Not in the position of spending any more until I get some biz income flowing. How is this rocking single phase 220V. Do you have a VFD or what? What are the amps required to run it? As you can see I cant stop myself from being interested....

    • @ElixirCNC
      @ElixirCNC Před 2 lety

      Yes, the spindle uses Erickson 30 Quick change, the spindle brake comes on automatically and you simply turn the nut a half turn and out comes the holder. Adding a 4th and 5th axis is as simple as buying something like DM860A drives from ebay for $65 or nicer Gecko drives for $154. Wiring takes about 10 minutes, the Mesa 7i76E board has room to plug in 4th and 5th axis drives. There is a VFD to control the spindle, and it uses up to 6.6 amps on a very heavy cut. I hope this clears things up, I would rather have a cash sale because ebay takes about 10% of the sale price. Thanks!

I have one, I bought it stripped of electronics & retrofitted to linuxcnc quite a few years ago, big steppers, homemade psu, stripped out the vari and went to vfd spindle speed control with backgear selectable in a hal gearbox component etc. Have fun, and watch out for the qc30 dropping out the spindle if you use import tool holders (mostly I found that checking the flange thickness on the toolholder itself identifies the ones likely to lead to a "oh poo" moment, some of them are pretty out of spec).

    Some artists recorded their own performances on this rolls, right? I assume in a different type of piano. How did this machine record dynamics on paper?

    • @philjackson4365
      @philjackson4365 Před 4 lety

      Hi, David. I'm not the poster of the video, but I've got one of these that I recently rebuilt. There were machines specifically built to punch the rolls, and they took the form of a piano that actuated a matrix of punch pins as the keys were pressed and the paper roll turned. Some rolls were also produced by transcribing manuscript music straight over to hole patterns and manually punching out the master, relying on the end user to moderate tempo.The 'Duo-Art' pianolas did have dynamic control, and it's encoded by a four-bit system whereby four vertical lines of holes are used to determine global note velocity (i.e. individual key dynamics are not possible).

      @OofusTwillip Před 4 lety

      Definitely a major leak or disconnection somewhere in the pneumatic system. If your piano is very old and still has its original parts, the rubber tubing might have gotten brittle and broken. You can search online for a player-piano repair technician, but there aren't many of them, because it's such a specialized field. Some of these technicians travel the world to service these wonderful old machines.

    • @andrewbarrett1537
      @andrewbarrett1537 Před 7 lety

      Stian Berg No man, that is an incorrect and way oversimplified explanation. 1. The pump / lower unit creates the suction to power the system. 2. The pump is connected to the stack via a wooden manifold, rubber hose, or both. 3. The stack can start playing when suction is applied. The stack is the part that actually "plays" the piano, and is usually located above the keyboard, occasionally below. The stack in most player actions consists of a pouch (leather disc), valve (usually of a spool or button shape), and pneumatic (small bellows) for each note played by the player, usually 88, but fewer in some types. Double valve actions also have an extra set of primary pouches and valves, which act to amplify the signal and positively activate the secondary valves. ...

    • @andrewbarrett1537
      @andrewbarrett1537 Před 7 lety

      Stian Berg I was going to get into a more thorough explanation of operation, but realize a video can be easier to understand. Actually, I've deciphered your question and can answer it now: Yes, when in "play" mode, if the paper comes off the tracker bar, all notes WILL try to play at once, provided that the player system is well restored with correct materials and techniques and is airtight (a wheezy player needing a rebuild will have problems even playing normal rolls, much less all notes at once). The reason the notes don't play backwards in "rewind" mode is because in this mode, the big valve to the stack in the "gate box", usually on or near the pump, is closed, so that the suction to the stack is cut off. This also holds true for the end of reroll, when the end tab on the roll can come unhooked from the take-up spool, and come off the tracker bar.
