Montrose played a show at Cal Poly SLO in 1976. The show was sold out, but hundreds of fans from the valley came over anyway thinking they could get tickets. When they discovered that they couldn’t, they rioted outside the gym, breaking some large plate glass windows. Montrose played on through the carnage.

Way back in the 90s I was sitting in a near empty club on Broadway in downtown Nashville when this super short and wide near blind cat walked in carrying a guitar case and a Fender amp. The Bartender said he was the newest hottest guitar slinger fresh in town from Maine. To my deep regret we left before he began playing. THIS is THAT GUY!

If you haven't listened to them, get his albums "Nils Lofgren" (his first album) and "Cry Tough" (second album). So good. He played on Neil Young's "after the goldrush" and "tonights the night" albums too. God knows what he was doing with Bruce Springsteen though - paying the bills I suppose.

I listened to similar bands who laid similar tracks back in the '70s, but can't truly remember really ever listening to Montrose. I may have heard them played at the house parties and field keggers I attended, but I never owned any of their records. Listening now to "Bad Motor Scooter", it sounds familiar, or the lyrics were perhaps quoted by some friends. I'm going to listen now in 2024 to some of their discography to try and jog my memory, because it sounds so classic of that era. Sure can pick out Sammy's contributions! The bands I listened to and whose records I owned back then included Grand Funk, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Maynard Ferguson, Led Zep, Guess Who, Chicago, BTO, Black Sabbath, Beatles, Monkees, Herman's Hermits, Peter and Gordon, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Four Seasons, Raspberries, Ides of March, Rare Earth, Santana, Creedence Clearwater, Pink Floyd, Joe Walsh, Golden Ear Ring, Boston, James Gang, Edgar Winter, ... ????

This is Van Halen AT THEIR BEST. Van Halen in 1974 was probably The Hottest Band in LA, and this is The Seminal Lineup: Brothers Ronnie Montrose on Guitar and Denny Carmassi on Drums, Michael Anthony on Bass and Backing Vocals, and Dave Lee Roth on Vocals. SO GOOD!!!! BadMotorFinger was probably The Best Album in The Grunge Era. They ROCKED Sunset Boulevard.
