How An AC Makes Air Cold - HVAC For Dummies
Here I dive into how refrigerant actually transfers heat out of your home and makes your home cold. The same basic principles apply to any system utilizing refrigerant. It's really a simple process once you understand it I tried to break it down in a way that anyone could understand. Let me know if you like this content.

Here we dive into a common misconception that exists both within the HVAC industry and by homeowners that have been misinformed by HVAC professionals. We recharge one system and then go over why this misconception exists and how there is some truth to the fact that you may want to just replace the system if it's this old and leaking. #airconditioning #hvac #hvacservice #hvacrepair #refrigerant ...

We installed a mini split on a school bus for a customer. We did only the flare connections, pressure test, and vacuum. We are leaving the rest of the job up to the customer. We have done a job like this before and honestly we like doing jobs like this because they are kind of fun. If you have a bus feel free to bring it our way and we'll install a mini split on it. #airconditioning #hvac #hvac...

This is the beginning of an install. We did not get good footage from the install so this is the only video we'll probably be putting out from it, but this was the biggest furnace I have ever worked on on the residential side. The grand total we got to was 422 pounds not including nuts and bolts and the metal shavings that came off during cutting. #hvaclove #hvac #hvacinstall #hvacinstallation ...
Replacing a 38 Year Old Blower Motor - Motor Dissection End of Video
zhlédnutí 440Před měsícem
This home is for sale and the home inspector said the heat was not working and it needed working heat for the appraisal. We were contacted by the real estate agent and we went out and diagnosed the blower motor as failed and replaced it. The entire system will likely be replaced by the new owners as the AC is completely non functional. The call would have been easier if we'd brought a motor and...
what does the txv vs piston do? Thanks
WTF
What the fetch is that
If I might add just a little advice. I would think about replacing that txv if you get the job. You are already going to remove the refrigerant and replacing the txv in Carrier units does suck I've done quite a few but hell you're already there anyway. Great videos keep up the good work big Red!
I like the satire my dude, I am a returning tech after years of owning my own handyman business Im already an hvac fiend.😂
I have one of these at my property in upstate PA. It's on a mountain with constant wind and it gets very cold there in the winter time. It heating bill is only about $200 a month
Yeah there’s no saving that air handler. Best to quote for a new system and install new ducts/return. Poor people breathing mold everyday
Thanks for the video, really helps as a pep talk. New to hvac, fresh hvac graduate and have been hired for close to 3 months now with a great company, they will be sending me out in my own van in a few days. Nervous but excited to keep growing.
Even if it’s a popular restaurant, You should call the health department.
Narly Narly Narly... I agree worst installment ever 😢
This video looks like different quality 🤷
This was a live stream from my phone. Other stuff is shot on GoPro and then edited
The only thing idle/standing pressures are good for are to tell you if there’s at least a little liquid refer in the system as if it’s less than ambient you know there’s only gas as it’s not longer at saturation temp. The other thing is using it to help diagnose noncondensables after the charge has cooled down and is stable.
The term "maintenance" is a fluid term for every company. If there is not a defined set of items that the customer wants done AND that is not communicated to the company doing the work, then whatever the company's "maintenance" items are is what is done. There are companies that ONLY change filters and that is considered maintenance. Others may add operational checks, does it come on in each mode. Others add actual measurements. While I agree that a service/diagnostic should be fairly standard, maintenance is DEFINITELY NOT standard. Many times it comes down to the amount of money a customer is willing to spend, is there a third party involved, are there expectations communicated. I work with a third party that "manages" costs for the end user. They limit the amount they pay out for maintenance and for that amount I limit my services. They knew coming into the deal what the company does for what price and they chose to accept the service to pay BUT still tell the customer that a full maintenance was done. This third party company does not pay for travel, does not care what it takes for access to equipment or care about local prices. They have a fixed amount and that is all they are willing to pay. For that they get that amount of service.
100%. Customers also have very different expectations when they call in for a maintenance as well. Some commercial clients want their coils cleaned each time and included in the price and some places I've been to literally have their own maintenance guys changing filters and cleaning coils and pay us to do an annual assessment of how the systems are running and let them know if there are any necessary repairs.
How did the restaurant stay open with that same dirty like that
I do not know
whats a good way to go about learning commercial as a residential guy?
Honestly if you treat them differently then you're going to struggle. They function the same way, both pumping refrigerant to transfer heat. If you get a solid grasp on how this functions then you're not going to struggle to work on weird commercial OR residential systems.
best Red in town! keep it up brother!
Bar is set reeeeeeeally low
I know that roof top. We do the maintenance on the mall owned equipment. You should see the magnificent ductwork job that someone did on a unit for one of the food court units... On being the 4th contractor, I had a call this week that 4 other companies declines to work on because they dont work on rack systems. It had a bad compressor that ran for 4 days and grounded. Got one of their reach ins working by replacing the fans. I know racks arent simple but this is a small rack system that any refrigeration guy should be able to work on
The other companies all touched the system here and did not figure out the problem. Funny that you've been up there too. Maybe we'll cross paths one day
@@SurfBrosHVAC what's crazy is that it is blatantly obvious what the issue is. Just makes you look that much better
I haven't heard anything bad about the Amana S Side Discharge.
I went to the "training" is was not that informative.
Yeah honestly they told us very little except that the guy was trying to talk us out of installing them. He made it seem like he gets too many calls from installers in the evening when they can’t get the systems started up
#1!!!!
Honestly at a bit of a loss as to why it took us being the fourth company to get this one right. Big shortage of guys that can troubleshoot in San Diego it seems...
This guy Hvacs
With the age i would say lost cause.
I am working on a quote now. Will decline future service if they don’t replace it.
I removed the Schraders and installed Swivel Tees.. it's a lot easier.
@@devongreen7308 you are a smarter man than I
@SurfBrosHVAC smarter, no lol, just good at making things work. Also wondering if you guys have seen issues with the 4-5ton models with indoor blower motor failures? I've installed a few and had nothing but issues. My fix has been to remove indoor blower board, motor, and evap temp sensor. After that I installed a Rheem blower board and x13 and have had zero issues since with any of them, including my house. Just wondering.
@@devongreen7308 I was told by another guy that the indoor units had a known recall on all the blower motors before I ever touched these units. His company has a bunch of motors sitting around for when they fail cause they were given a free motor for each unit they installed. TBH I have not installed their 240v air handlers. We have done them with the ADP 120V air handler and also with soffit mount fan coils. I think we have installed about 10 of these units thus far and have yet to have any issues with them but we have an extremely low call back rate in general. They are definitely a little finicky to install at times but not too bad. I wish they were lighter.
@SurfBrosHVAC 10/4 thank you for taking time to reply.
I don't often do round duct installs but I was wondering about that. Very useful!
Trash as video
Save yourself some headaches. Invest in a porta blaster. Never have to remove a wheel again.
if you take a screw longer than the guide plug, you can sometimes screw it in through the front of the wood piece and the wood piece will push out. obviously dont use a self tapping fastener so you dont drill into the metal bit
Excellent video !! Shitty location !!! What brand of digital torque wrench 🔧 do you endorse ??? NAVAC, HILMOR, Yellow jacket or CPS BLACK MAX ???
Honestly I don’t have a preference for any brand. Unless someone were to prove different I think they should all work well. I think ours is yellow jacket
Labor Warranty expired, possibly manufacturers as well if ECM blower will fail 😊
What? Was that shot with a Nokia?🤣

Thanks for trying guys. You’ll see the video and see what we saw.
We’ll upload a GoPro video it’s a funny one
Watch out for rattlesnakes!
Nice gotta love the oblivious customers till they have a problem with the unit, money in the bank
Additional information to my previous comments the walk in freezer equipment was definitely a top notch install probably 5-6 years old at the time I worked on it not a very long piping run operating pressures coming out of defrost were 25 suction 250 head pressure would run 15 pound suction pressure and the leak was a tiny pin hole.
A few years back I was picking up a refrigerant leak in an evaporator coil of a frozen food box with A D-tek select Leak detector my boss had me put the same product you displayed it sort of slowed down the leak from “5” pounds a week to “2-3” pounds per week. After a month of weekly visits, the customer was a beer distributor that kept bagged ice in this fzr. I was able to go back and extensively leak check found a pinhole leak on a U bend the ez seal didn’t fully work I pumped the system down sanded the leak area carefully rebrazed the joint with silphos 15 no more refrigerant added. So not really impressed with the product.
Poor video
Thank you
What happened to that poor lady is exactly the reason why I started doing my own HVAC for my property. Some HVAC scammer tried to tell me he couldn't work on my heat pump and needed to charge me $600 to rotate the outdoor unit 90 degrees in order to access the service panel. Never mind the fact that it had been serviced with no issue for over a decade. Ever since investing the thousands in tools and education (and EPA cert of course) I haven't looked back. There are of course good companies and honest techs out there, but the scammers make HVAC techs out to be just about as bad as a used car salesman.
@@mikar3601 I would say maybe as many as half of the techs in my area are scummy. It’s pretty bad
Damn shame. Good on ya.. 🤙
That thing is spotless compared to the units I've serviced
Yeah we only cleaned it cause she specifically wanted it cleaned
I will say though that I myself was somewhat surprised how nasty the stuff that came out of it was. There was a lot in there that you couldn’t see
Job well done guys. You just gained a loyal customer for life.
God bless you guys. Good job.
Good job guys! Not too many people take to the time to strip down and deep clean a mini-split. For units that require a little more pressure to get clean, i recommend picking up a turbo tank from nu-calgon, they are really ideal for cleaning mini splits like this. They got just the right amount of pressure and a 90 degree tip that can really get under the coil. I think the new ones can run on most drill batteries plus it would also be great for getting the sand off your feet after an early morning paddle out!
I have a battery powered pump sprayer I just misplace the charger for the battery. I have heard good things about a lot of other sprayers though
I used to pull mini splits apart but I think they get just as clean with the bib kit and HVAC power washer. My opinion. It was nice of you to not charge her. Customer for life ❤
I got a Speedclean Coiljet just so I would not have to pull the blower wheel on ductless splits to clean it. Real time saver, and no risk from moving the coil around.
And in the end, everybody made out well. Especially Reina😊😊
Yeah she's spoiled by most of my customers
