I suspect that Senior isn't suggested because ... it isn't really a Soulslike. It has many of the trappings of s Soulslike, but the posture bar gives the combat a fundamentally different feel. And you can _pause the game._ Having no pause feature was actually a design necessity due to PVP invasions and co-op summons. But many people see it as a genre staple, even developers of games that don't feature multiplayer modes that require it. Senior isn't as different as, say, Nioh 2, which looks Soulsy but certainly doesn't play like one. But it's different _enough_ that it is excluded from suggestions for games that are "like Elder Ring." I think part of it may also be due to having a different publisher. For whatever reason, FromSoft chose Activision as Sekiro's publisher outside Japan. All FromDoft's other games were published by Bandai Namco. Which also explains some of Sekiro's different feel. Activision made suggestions that really helped Sekiro. I know they influenced the tutorial presentation, and FromSoft implemented other Activision suggestions that lent the game a bit more polish. But FromSoft went back to their usual methods for Else Ring. Ultimately, Sekiro just doesn't _feel_ like a Soulslike. More than once I've seen people call it a rhythm game. And while I wouldn't go _that_ far, I understand what they mean about learning when to block, and the flow of the combat. And it just struck me that Sekiro's lack of multiplayer might be why it never developed the online community that the other games have. These communities organize events where people go back to one or the other of the games for a month or so. So you can play them then and see a relatively high incidence of phantoms and matchmaking. Sekiro never developed any of that grass roots support. It's a shame. Sekiro deserves more recognition, and more play. But I'm currently about halfway through Nioh 2, and still having enough fun that I intend to platinum it. Which would make it only the 2nd platinum I will have stuck with a game long enough to achieve (after Marvel's Spider-Man).

I tried this game after beating Elden Ring (my first souls game) and I got past lady butterfly but Sekiro didn’t click with me. I even tried recently to go back to it and it still really hasn’t. Maybe I’ll come back later but when Lenny said “you have to be perfect for each fight” that’s what I think sums up why it doesn’t click for me. It’s very cool and I want to go back to it eventually, but I definitely like leveling up, finding loot, and using different builds as opposed to the “rhythm game” aspect of Sekiro

I love DK3….its the first souls game I ever played. I made my first attempt at it 3 years ago, sunk 70 hours in it and only leveling up to 13- didn’t make it past undead settlement. I didn’t understand the items the leveling the consumables nothing so after getting frustrated I quit. I picked it back up about a month ago and I’m 100 hours in, level 110, just beat the abyss watchers, and genuinely looking forward to sinking some more hours in outside of work.

This game looks awesome! Added to my wishlist 😀
