      @seb_gibbs Před 18 hodinami

      @@rookie28604 Possible, some background research has already been done in to this; Kaspersky is an independent company but they could be force by their government, but wouldnt be much different to the US forcing Norton to inveterate Russia for them. If they were found out to be using antivirus as a weapon, demand would fall, and Kaspersky would very quickly no longer exist. So I doubt any anti-virus company would risk loosing their entire business on this. With so many off-the-shelf sandbox scanners that quickly analyse, and monitor all inputs/outputs, its become very easy to know if software is good or bad. So many viruses discovered to made by US government agencies, you could argue that Kaspersky is more likely to give you better protection.

    I think it is more than reasonable to ban software from hostile foreign nations. We already have influence campaigns from Russia and China on US owned apps. So it would be easy for tiktok to be use for that. And imagine if antivirus would do an update that would not detect ransomware from Russia. And the whole third party review is disingenuous as AV updates come out daily. The cost for good third party review considering we all know how malware obfuscation works would be crazy to get daily detailed analysis of it.

That said, the US (THEE most violent, hypocritical criminal empire in modern history) banning Kaspersky actually now gives me a strong hankering TO USE IT. :edit: Permit me to outline the *real* reason our criminal empire decided to YEET Kasper products. It's quite simple, Kaspersky products, while not impervious to hacking, represent a significant headache to *our* criminal 3-letter agencies, making their crimes against our own citizens significantly harder to commit. Well making it harder & more expensive for the NSA to spy on Americans is simply not going to be tolerated. So *out ya go* Kaspersky.

    The Kaspersky team are excellent security researchers. The company though … if the government wants access, They Will Get It. Same as US companies with the US government. If you have anything you want to keep secret from the Russian government, I'd stay far away from Kaspersky. But that's more general advice than anything when it comes to closed source software that effectively has root access to your system or the ability to snoop your data and phones home from time to time by design.

      Indeed they are excellent security researchers, so excellent that they have been spying for Kremlin for 30 years and only have been called out now. Baltic CERT has been saying that they are a security threat since mid 1990s

      Please, this isn't the 90's. We're living in 2024, where CORPORATIONS NOW RUN GOVERNMENTS, not the other way around. In the US, we've proven that our government has been *completely and thoroughly captured* by our corporations. I see no reason why that shouldn't apply to every nation on some scale at this moment in history. CORPORATIONS RUN THE SHOW. Governments have essentially become TOOLS of capitalists. Pretty scary.

    Ya'll know TikTok is owned buy Bytedance, a Chinese owned company. Companies owned in China are controlled by the CCP. Foreign companies in China are required by CCP law to have an office for the CCP officials, in which they can tell the company what to do, and they have to do it. It has to do with the governmental influence. Plus, all they have to do is divest from the country - China with TikTok, and Russia with Kapersky.

    Good luck "uninstalling" Kaspersky now 😏😭🤏 Too many places to hide on your computer with all the intel they've gathered studying viruses whose job it is to NOT be detected. This is why I stick with my Motorola 3200! Try hacking that, Kremlin! 😂

      Excellent point, also, Kaspersky software was *generally* making it exceedingly tiresome for our morally bankrupt criminal agencies to gain footholds into our machines & data, and that wasn't gonna fly. So they got YEETED.

      I used to work for Juniper. I remember they had a subscription for the NetScreen firewalls for Kaspersky and Kas was always hours to weeks ahead of anyone else with updating their definitions for new exploits. That's where my trust with them started and they've yet to prove me wrong. Is it possible? Sure. What's the alternative? TrendMicro? Their software is a heavy piece of crap. Norton, McCrapee, Avira, Panda, MalwareBytes... they all get their definitions FROM KASPERSKY. Of those the only one I may trust would be MalwareBytes but they only offer AV last I looked. I wouldn't even consider the others. The US government can keep it's soiled, grubby mitts and recommendations away from my computer tyvm.
