Think that would work??
Thanks for the info! I'm waiting on Amazon to deliver my wiring harness pins so I can finish and add a left speaker. Do you have any pointers/tips on how to add a pin to the harness or will it be super simple?
Awesome! Yeah honestly it’s not super difficult as long as you’ve got a nice super thin and small flat head screwdriver or similar small punch to disconnect the pins if you need to move them around or rearrange if needed. But assuming everything is correct the pins should just slide and clip in
6’2” IRL or 6’2” on Tinder? Asking because I’ve owned a 1st gen 4Runner.
Haha 6’2” for real
Tell me what you use for your 180 cam setup please
I had the insta360 x3 creator bundle with the selfie stick mounted to the rack that comes with the Sambar
WANT TO BUY ONE. . . where did you buy it?
I e actually got a video on my channel about my purchase and import process!
Long story short though, I bought mine from carfromjapan.com
I had a 250cc Honda version in the late 70's put a light weight van back on it so could sleep in it. It didn't like hills on motorways the HGB got healed up.
I have a 1998 Subaru Sambar truck arriving in about two weeks time from Japan. We live in Huntsville, Texas.
i live in texas as well and was considering importing im interested in your experiences with the process.
Would it be a good first car?
I think depending on where you live it could be a really nice and capable first car
These are so cool.
I just got a 1997 Mitsubishi Minicab. Once it gets to 80 kph (50 mph), it feels like the engine is SCREAMING. I don't see how it could feel right to go 125 kph.
Yeah for sure. If you’ve got the 3 cylinder minicab I’m sure it might be revving a little bit higher than the 4 cylinders at high speed. I’m not sure how the different engines are with the minicabs and other kei trucks but yeah
Indeed, ideal for carrying dirty outdoor tools . washing and painting, maintenance is easy and simple thanks to medieval technology.
Did you have to do anything to it so it's can be legal to drive in the US ? Smog ? Take the speed restriction off ? Love these thinking of getting one ?
I honestly didn’t have to do much by virtue of the state I live in having very limited vehicle restrictions. So it would definitely depend on what state you’re going to be driving in. My specific truck did not have a speed restrictor so not much to do for me besides some new tires and getting a plate
I just bought a 1997 Honda Acty Van and I love it so much. I already took it to Myrtle Beach from Columbia and it turns heads here in South Carolina even though these are becoming so common on the road now. I hang out with a group of other Honda Acty owners in Columbia and there's dozens of us here in the city alone that owns Kei Trucks/Vans even local businesses are buying them now for shops and stuff. It's just so much fun and practical to drive around.
hate hate hate hehe hate hate
lol
It’s unbelievable so many Americans try to buy those 25 years older vehicles in junkyard. And shipping cost is extraordinarily, you can buy brand new one with fancy electronic safety equipments.
Americans are not allowed to import or drive foreign vehicles that are newer than 25 years old on the roads. So there is a very good reason that we buy the “junk” that is older.
How's maintainence? Easy to find someone to work on it if needed?
I never found it very hard to work on by myself given I could source a part from somewhere. They’re mechanically quite simple. I’m sure that as long as the US doesn’t completely ban them, the more trucks that arrive here, the more people you’ll be able to find that can work on them. I always say that it’s not the best vehicle to buy unless you’re willing to learn how to work on them yourself to an extent.
What makes it fun is getting to drive a slow car fast.
u got 4wd on a paved/ gravel driveway? ok google.
So you’d rather me get a 2wd and completely remove the option to go on rougher terrain in the future? Comments like yours are so silly
In order to make the Kei Truck/Van/Cars a little faster, better to increase the wheel/tire size to 15". You will lose a little power on the take off, but end up with a higher speed. And maybe easier to by 15" tires than 12" or 13" tires.
enjoyable and informative. Just a note, the 25% import duty/tax is due to a very old law called the Chicken Tax, when the USA and Germany argued about chickens and truck imports. The feud gave us the Subaru Brat with two seats in the back to try and skirt the truck duty, but they lost in the end. Important points. 1. The import duty/tax is based upon the US$ price, not the yen so have that translated, and refer to the US$ rate on that day. 2. translate the front and rear of your export certificate, different states/dmv's and personnel are the variables. 3. get a TWIC card to enter the port on your own, wear a florescent safety vest and helmet, bring some jumper cables, and a spare battery to jump the vehicle on a little dolly. maybe a few tools. Get all those documents stamped at customs, multiple sets as you will need them. Remember, everyone is lazy, and they don't care how their mistakes will waste your time!
To anyone planning to import to newark, dont, it was literal hell but i got the car after 6 hours of waiting in the sun
Any issues in Ohio getting titled and Licensed? I know It has to be registered as unconventional
Not sure, you’ll have to look up state specific info for Ohio. I titled and registered mine in SC
BTW several states are trying to ban these Kei trucks citing "Safety Issues" which is total B/S.! It's more about market share with UTV manufactures. The off road vehicles are NOT cheap. I'm talking about $ 10K and more!
You talked about the emblem. do you what the 5 stars represent? I read the back story on them, very interesting.
Subaru - unite or 6 stars
I want a keictruck so bad. I would probably go with honda. Cause I've always had good experiences with himda machines and engines
how did you get your twic?
I used the online portal, I think it’s on the same website as the TSA PreCheck application.
Awesome my Subaru Sambar 1998 arrives in early August from Japan. I am very excited to see how it performs. I just subbed to you to stay connected.
I love that these little guys are becoming trendy. And it's not at all about speed. No one would ever bash it for being too "rice" or whatever, no matter how cool you made it look.
stop talking so fast especially when your saying the name of agencies.....you kind of mumble
The fact you have the privaledge to do this at all is a flex on its own. My state doesn't allow kei trucks
Thank you for this video! My Acty is scheduled to hit Jacksonville port at the end of the month!!! I am doing it myself, so to hear your tips was super helpful!
How is it working with Jacksonville port?
thissss
Can 11 year old drive it ?
I’m sure they can. It’s a small cab with a seat that adjusts forward a decent amount. Good farm truck
You've got your seat belt put on incorrectly/illegally!
I think at the time it was so it wouldn’t interfere with the microphone during filming. I guess I just enjoy getting my ribs broken 🤷♂️ definitely not how I typically wear it
april 1st 2024 they made them legal all over Texas so i am looking at some now. and a sambar is what i think i will end up with. but a hi jet is a close 2nd. and i have very few hills where i live. but i have a requirement it has to have a/c.
what is your top speed.
I got it up to around 74 or so once
@@forthewindell thats fast enough for me.
@@forthewindell 74 seems to be pretty good to me. but i have one more question and i will leave you alone. do you think it will run 60 mph with no trouble. i mean like for 50 miles none stop. if so i think i just made up my mind. for sure what i want. and if nothing goes wrong i'm hoping to before the first of the year.
@@MadsWorld34 I’d say 50-60 is the top of it’s comfortable cruising speed so yeah 50 miles at 60 is definitely doable and probably perfectly fine. My commute has fairly long stretches of 50s and it could do it fine as long as it isn’t up hill too much.
I've just imported a Kei Suzuki Carry into Australia. It was such a smooth easy process. I got a 2020 model that's automatic and only 47 000 kms. I did have to change the tyres, get the air con re-gased to Aus standards and install an FM radio as the Japanese AM didnt work here. but that was it. Seeing as in Japan they use kms not miles and drive right hand wheel like we do, I was super lucky with everything. I'm now excited to start building my micro camper on the back. Next step welding the frame 😊
For the 2022 model of the Suzuki Carry, automatic vehicles will go from 3 to 4 speeds.
@kazumiinoue5043 oh is that right? Ok.
@@CosyCottageCamper Thank you for your comment 😊 I am Japanese, so of course I can get information quickly.
Appreciate all your help but you speak way to fast. Lol. Slow down so we don't have to keep rewinding......
Just slow it down in the settings on the video lol
thank you for the video. you had mentioned that there is some luck involved with getting a good quality vehicle with this process. is there any sort of guarantee from the seller that the vehicle runs? along that line, is there any option for a third party inspection?
I think there are definitely options available depending on who you buy it from. I heard that Mitsui does a good job with their vehicles of making sure their customers are happy
@@forthewindell Thank you for the response! I now have a Honda Acty. I got it on FB so didn't have to import it. It's in good condition.
Really nice video. I am making a similar one for my channel. Will surely mention this video under ‘resources’.
Can’t wait to watch it! Appreciate it
why? なんで欧米の人が乗ると こんなにかっこいいのだろうか?
Every fiber in my body wants to take the gsx motor i stuffed in my jetski into one of these.
4WDの軽トラはフォ-ドのレンジャ-などより悪路には強い。 しかも滅多に故障をしない。
Kei Truck has largest payload capacity in the smallest size and cheap. Modern pickup trucks are exact opposite.
Just ordered a Sambar now that they’re street legal in Texas! How’s yours holding up, any mechanical issues?
Nice! Still going strong 💪
How many propane tanks can you fit in the bed ? I would appreciate it if you could give me an idea. Thank you. I did the math and I think 15 but not sure.
I’m not quite sure. That sounds about right
3,500 for the truck including shipping. Right?
Great video!!! Thanks
I'm in Florida. Who did you get it from?
I got it from carfromjapan.com I have a video on my channel about the process
I’m 15, and think a kei truck would be a super cool first car, any input on if that’s a bad idea or not?
It’s certainly not a terrible idea. I would say that if you live in a place that does not require a lot of highway driving, it could be good. City driving is where they excel.
@@forthewindell I decided to import a 1995 Honda Acty, I think I will clean it up and sell it stateside for profit, and then buy another Kei vehicle. Wish me luck, haha
Next time do the install the correct way, especially the speakers.
