Combine Assimilation Of Human Tech In Half-Life
Love this video! Barney is the one exceptional man, look at everything my boy lived through
I always love me some Lovecraft, and I've always loved Half-Life; Half-Lovelife just makes sense.
Good video 👍🏻 may you be blessed by the algorithm 🙏🏻
I do think you talk about this but another aspect of the cosmicism is that humanity is also... sort of a pawn in the game between two incomprehensible powers. The Combine killed and oppressed and then used humanity for more resources (no matter how inconsequential those resources may be in the grand scheme). In HL:Alyx, they also use Earth/The Vault as a trap/prison for G-Man. G-Man is obviously a very powerful entity but it also shows the combine is advanced and powerful enough to challenge them. Its an unknowable, self sustaining machine against an unknowable, likely inhuman entity working on behalf of other more powerful inhuman entities. Both of these groups are able to destroy each other in time and if an advantage is gained, but this victory over the foe would probably come at the cost of humanity also.
Great video!!
we serve the same mystery
My tired brain misread the title as How Valve Explores the Horrors of Criticism. That would be a very different but still interesting video. And this is a very interesting video. I’m realizing I’ve always admired the resistance because they had their reality fundamentally inverted and still chose to fight let alone survive. They are mythically brave not only for facing physical threats from other worlds but also fighting for their purest ideals. What’s exciting about the world of half life is the story possibilities. Maybe in the badlands there are former resistance that have had their ideals crushed and are now violent heathens only allowed to exist because their chaos indirectly supports the combine. Many new directions they can go, if not by a modding team. It would be nice if Valve did it so we can have more diverse assets to craft more of our own stories. Overall the writing is not only excellent (not too dumbed down but also not generic and overcomplicated) but also a perfect fit for the scope of the linear single player gameplay that’s been a part of hl’s DNA. idk what valve was on when they were working on an open world hl3. That would never have had the same impact as a focused experience. That’s why Bethesda’s games, as much as I want to love them, have such horrible ludonarrative dissonance. It’s therefore unsurprising how successful the TV series has been. Bethesda’s fundamental flaw is undervaluing cohesiveness for trendy features like open world, building, multiplayer. Lots of talented people but it’s wasted on visions that dont make sense. Fallout could have been as great of a story/game as half life otherwise. Lots of potential in that world. Basically Valve nailed the dystopian game genre. Anyways it’s great to hear someone’s thoughts on a classic series and I hope you make more videos like this. Awesome job matching the visuals too.
open-world games in general struggle with ludonarrative dissonance, just by the nature of what they are. Some companies like rockstar do a far better job of managing this and are able to tie their open world to their stories better then most, but even then they struggle and falter at times, especially with their more recent titles (looking at you rdr2). In any case, if anyone could pull of an open world half-life game, it's valve
Really awesome video man, loved every second of it.
Shoulithoi. I spelt that wrong. I know but that is where the g-man is from

Thank you!
Yk I just found this channel and in already loving it. I love your half life stuff and the way you clearly explain everything
Thank you!
Amazing videos!!!
your videos are great, guarantee the source community will find you soon

Definitely need more Half Life lore 😍
Dude this is a great video, I hope the half life community catches on soon
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. But it's all good. I do this because it's fun. A bigger audience would be fantastic, but just the idea people are listening to me talk about stuff I enjoy is a lot in of itself.
@@exploringlore2856 well hey, just so you know Ive been really enjoying your videos
Fhis was a good breakdown. You should do an update
Really good video, it’s interesting to finally see someone analyze this somewhat overlooked element of the half life games. I really hope more people see this video.
Thank you so much! I honestly really appreciate that.
This is a really good video, this should have way more views and attention, have you tried reaching out to lambda generation?
I dont exactly get how would that help?
LambdaGeneration is awesome. But I have not yet. There are a few channels I hope to connect with and maybe work with at some point. But I want to build up my channel a bit more first. All in good time.
@@kacperrembielinski-gaazka1981 he has a large base of viewers and often shows off new content creators to said fan base to support new half life CZcamsrs
@@exploringlore2856 he does do a decent job in showing off new small channels to help them grow, and having covered some half life stuff you'd get a big audience boost, and I think with content this good you deserve it
@@awesomesource12 I mean i know that, but would this video fall under the type of things lambda generation covers? I thought they more talked more about new mods and stuff, i guess i could be wrong tho.
nice video dude! dont forget me when u become famous -a random subscriber lmao
Thank you and can do!
Nice video but half life as a both game and lore is not that much serious and as not well written as Metro series.
I did enjoy the Metro games I've played. But admittedly I am not all that immersed in the lore. But at some point it would be fun to study up on it more and see what video ideas come out of it.
I’d argue that half life’s lore isn’t worse, it’s just not as much expanded on as it could be.
@@kacperrembielinski-gaazka1981 nah man, if you look at the character designs, you can see that there are always childish-looking testicle-ish npc's and enemies. and the dialogues amongst the other characters are much worse, that's the almost end of the world and they still keep the hollywood type of fake ass motivational sentences. Metro 2033 to Metro Exodus were literally written by a very succesful author both books and screenwriting in the games, and there is no bullshit ass dialogues. I'm myself an author and really half-life has no seriousness, and compared to Metro hl is nothing.
why does it matter though
I know i’m a year late but wow. What a well-done video. Definitely subscribing

In the HL2 beta, the OTA soldiers were using HK XM 29 OICW grenade launchers and used modified MI 8 helicopters, these two things being another example for the use of human inventions

Nice video
Great video :)
stop playing the game at 65 fov its disorienting
'Graffiti is the human spirit shining through the stranglehold of oppression' now that's a bar 🔥
The Vortigant one is so interesting! Makes me reflect on human art itself as this outward expression of our invisible inner condition as a means to connect to other people, so a Vortigant who is connected to all other Vortigants all the time wouldn't need art to express themselves like we do
its a good video but man you gotta work on the audio the mic sounds distant and the audio mixing gets loud and then quiet
Thank you for the feedback. I completely agree. I have some hardware limitation at the moment which is causing some problems. But I have been saving up to get a better setup.

Thank you for video, it was so interesting
This implies the combine never discovered guns or trains.
Not at all. The OSIPR is definitely pre-existing Combine tech (dark energy pulse rounds) just fitted onto an ergonomic human frame. I doubt the Combine would have not discovered or invented basic locomotion technology, it’s likely they just created razor trains so that they can design freight carriers that fit their needs using pre-existing railways. That being said, I never understood why they couldn’t just transport cargo via Synth Dropships.
*WE ARE THE UNIVERSAL UNION. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!*
Actually pretty interesting
Very insightful and in depth
Very interesting point about the convergent evolution of certain technologies. What works will be independently developed and copied everywhere. I see no reason that a flashlight, for example, wouldn't be invented on an alien planet if it provided the same benefit (planet has a day-night cycle). We see convergent evolution in biology on earth. Eyes have evolved multiple times ... Because they work As for the flashlights darker cousin, the fleshlight... Who knows
Excellent video.
Low subscribers, good video. This is really rare. You deserve more subs
Thanks for reminding me why I love this franchise.
