The British Wool Collection from Bronte by Moon
Introducing British Wool by Moon.
In a world of fast fashion and insatiable customer expectations, the consumer faces the burden of seeking traceable and ethical products only to find an elusive production process using predominantly overseas materials. To discover a luxury textile product that is genuinely traceable is incredibly challenging. This project sought to change this rhetoric.
In partnership with British Wool and Campaign for Wool, Abraham Moon & Sons has created this collection of luxury throws using entirely British Lambswool, British design and, finally, produced in one of the few remaining vertical woollen mills in the UK, Abraham Moon, where every single production process is conducted under one roof. The result is a collection of beautifully designed luxury throws that are completely traceable from farm to finish.
Inspired by the local British landscapes surrounding us, four original designs are presented across five different colourways. From the dyeing of the wool to the creation of the yarn through to the weaving and the imparting of the soft, lofty handle in the final finish, this collection is a testament to home-bred design, sustainability, innovation and provenance at its heart.
This video tells that story.

I’ve read “Less”. A lot of the history I already knew (I’m a history teacher), but the social and economic interpretation was fascinating. I’ve always knitted, but most available yarn these days is acrylic in 100g balls and wool is expensive to buy. So I started knitting FairIsle patterns with Shetland wool. They come in 25g balls, so little waste and what is left over, can be used up in smaller garments such as hats and gloves. Plus it takes me a long time! I looked to buy T Shirts from Community Clothing, but was disappointed to find they all came with ‘badges’. Other organic outlets want to make political eco statements on their garments. I just want to buy ethical, plain, neutral clothes I can wear with anything. 🙏

Yikes. No one was weaving ... The Coast Salish, Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian are relatively new to me. Some of the inspiration that I feel from these people are their weavings. I tried weaving on a ridgid heddle loom in my past, and I am still into fabric arts (specifically kumihimo). These people share my interest in wood carving, too. Whole tribes with a rich history of textiles and carving and stories! As a San Diegan, I, too, have a connection to the water. I wanted to be an oceanographer when I was little. I, too, have a connection to animal spirits - although I'm catholic, I still feel the spiritual connection.

yes. not too bad. But let's get real .... isn't there something quite hypocritical about the monarch speaking about ecology .... burring wool in his rose garden to proof sustainability ...? Getting in touch with colonialism in a deeply human way is a chunk of what ecology must be about and this maximum - privileged geeser is talking as if he never in his life was in trouble (cause he was not). Folks - the future grows from the past so we need something deeper than that. And yes, wool and sheep and good, intelligent farming .... more of that. Much more. ( I am a farmer) But we ain't gonna get it unless we start thinking about the mythologies that underlie western modern culture and thinking .... which brings us back to the monarch talking about circularish ways of living. What the fuck ?

Too bad and maybe surprising there aren't any constructive comments here. In my opinion this video downplayed the methane part and the soil destruction part. These wonderful examples of carbon neutral and regenarative farming practices still need to be taken into use globally. We also need standards for animal welfare overseed by a third party. And what about Merino breed taken over all the heritage breeds? Haven't the humans still learned that versatility is the key for successful future? We can't simply rely on one breed, it's gonna be a recepy for disaster. Wool certainly is very versatile but if wool needs to reinforced for longevity it cannot be plastic. Also we need drastic change in thinking that we need fast fashion. It serves no purpose other than feeding fashion giants never filling money pockets.

If animals are not well cared for then farmers suffer economically. You see how one farmer was testing the strength of the wool staple? That would break or tear and be rendered useless if sheep aren't given the proper nutrition and are in poor health. Breaks happen with stress from illness, lambing, etc. It is in the farmer's best interest to have healthy well cared for animals to have a viable commercial product. I think most people don't realize that, because they don't know what goes into sheep farming and are instead listening to 'animal welfare' propaganda.

Of course wool biodegrades, who doubted that? Nobody was thinking that sheep have been polluting for thousands of years, now have they? I guess this is in response to those who call wool unsustainable. I understand: sheep ruminate, producing methane. They also take land from forests. In the prehistoric past, sheep were only found in mountains in Iran; now they're everywhere. Still, I think sheep is a very good animal to have: meat, milk for making cheese, horns for making spoons, and don't forget wool: the best material for winter clothes.

Furthermore, I would recommend you take a course in propriety conducted by William Hanson, because you are simply rude and insulting. Your own biography, Mr Coleridge, at least as described on Wikipedia, shows that YOU are involved in commercial representation. I have been wearing clothes of 100% natural fibers before you wore diapers. Your argument that wool is environmentally more friendly than synthetics reveals your own commercial position - you need this argument to convince those unaesthetic profit-possessed nerds with whom you do business who don't notice how ugly such materials as Gore-Tex are. Anybody with innate good taste doesn't want to wear synthetic junk, but that doesn't seem to dawn in your mind? You are the mouthpiece of commerce in interest of wool, which does not at all exclude irresponsible and dishonest wool manufacturers, of which I know at least one whose alleged flannel expert neglected to inform me that disco dancing sweat causes pilling and worse, destroying a new jacket. Every one to two years the door frames and windows have to be maintained using more wood and many chemicals. Although the residents of the development have campaigned for low maintenance doors and frames, the answer is always no. HRH doesn't always get it right. Chemicals are just as harmful to the environment, as is using inferior wood for building, so I would love to know his reasoning behind the projects he supports and those he doesn't which are equally beneficial.
