    I've gone to the top of Half Dome 3 times over the years...first time was right out of the Marines in 1992. I'm a lifelong athlete of multiple sports so I'm pretty good in the physically fit, department. This is not your everyday, leisurely hike. My last summit was 3 years ago at the age of 55, it was pretty taxing for me but all in all still a great climb. Good on Terra for knowing her limitations, which is lacking in a lot of people and can easily get you killed. I have likely seen the last of Half Dome but it will always remain as a great memory and an old friend! ✌

  • @JulieCaptivatedinFl

    Just saw a video yesterday of a 20 year old girl that fell down cables and perished. Dad almost caught her. Then, I caught your video! I admire your energy. Looks like you are having a great time but the cables freak me out! Glad the video brought me to yours. You guys are fun!

  • @seangaffney581
    @seangaffney581 Před 11 dny

    Did this twice 08 and 2018. First year, you didn't need a permit. It was packed had to help a woman who froze on the cables come down. I won the lottery in 2018 and I had to fly immediately from fort lauderdale. 2 California, and then hike half dome the next day a 2 day permit sucks I had no time to do pre hikes and acclimate to altitude Both times I didn't clip in The third time I will .. There was a group of guys and I pulled one of his buddies. And said, listen, this is not the place to try to prove a point here. This aint for you, don't try it. You dont have nothing to prove you've gone far. Enough. Be safe all

      @lucasterradostuff Před 8 dny

      Thanks! We also did Angel's Landing. I would say they are equally "scary," but Half Dome is more difficult just because of the distance. It's like 3x longer than Angel's Landing. Would love to do either of them again though, because they are both incredible experiences.

  • @peterdisbury
    @peterdisbury Před 12 dny

    Like Angels Landing, you take a couple of Green Chlorophyll tabs the day before you go. Stretch really well before you embark on the final step going up. When you get to base you look at the mountain like a giant Treadmill.....it is all psychology here and you can psych yourself out of it by asking (What if this, What if that, What if.....) Just look at the granite side and haul up there to the top and take a Carbiner/safety harness to latch onto just in case you get dislodged from the planks. We went back in 2004 and half a dozen people up on the cables had panic attacks which locked up the route. That sucked for anyone coming back down. No NPS anywhere, pretty poorly organized as usual .

    • @lucasterradostuff
      @lucasterradostuff Před 8 dny

      My mentality on the cables was "don't focus on anything but the next step. Just look at your feet and take the next step."

    • @lucasterradostuff
      @lucasterradostuff Před 8 dny

      You say "everyone just continues," but what you didn't see in the video was roughly 80% of people actually turned around and left when the rain started. Only me and a handful of other people decided to continue forward and see if the weather would clear up. Keep in mind, this was around noon and the weather forecast was for a very brief shower in the morning followed by clear sunny skies the rest of the day, and that's exactly what happened.

  • @Icewing10
    @Icewing10 Před 16 dny

    Half dome isn't a hike, it's climbing a mountain with no safety gear. You have to be in tip top shape I'd imagine, fatigue would hit fast.

    • @lucasterradostuff
      @lucasterradostuff Před 16 dny

      I would completely disagree. It's definitely a hike, with a cable section at the end that's roughly 45 degrees up a rock. Calling it "mountain climbing" is disrespectful to mountain climbers. The range of people who have completed Half Dome ranges from small children to folks over 90 years old. If you're in reasonably good physical condition, you can do it. True mountain climbing requires far more ability than hiking Half Dome. Just my opinion, but an informed one.
