I've always hated the modern haircuts on the soldiers on this show. You MIGHT be able to get away with a little bit with the officers in a field hospital, but the regular army wounded with the long hair and blow dry? Come on! Such a wonderful show with plenty of authenticity, and yet the producers didn't insist on a soldier from 1950-52 looking like a soldier from then?

Good for you Major Winchester, you hit the mark! No, there is no connection between stuttering and intelligence. As a former stutterer myself, I can attest to that. Those who judge you negatively or are prejudiced against you because of your stutter are ignorant, and have no idea of what a speech impediment like stuttering is. That would especially go for little kids who used to make fun my stutter. Little kids can be so cruel....but I had to learn to toughen up, and have confidence in myself or I would have gone under a long time ago. Looking back on my life, I can say that I've come a long way since those painful childhood memories. I used to dream of what it would be like to be a fluent talker....and fortunately I was lucky enough to realize that dream of standing in front of audiences and delivering lectures and speeches, being a radio announcer, and doing character acting.

David was an excellent addition to the show. As a kid I loved to hate his elitist manner from the start but slowly he warmed in my heart. Episodes like this did that and after the show ended I enjoyed seeing David appear is other shows. A truly talented man.

Kindness can really go a long way. We are all God's children, and we should be looking out for each other than judge anyone cause of religion, skin color or anything else. I believe we can be there to watch out for each other and show compassion.

It's different now but back then a stutter would have disqualified the poor kid from the draft. Thing is, he would have had to prove it. And it's hard to prove something you're ashamed of and try to hide. Nowadays they let people with a stutter serve proudly. ...They probably won't let you call in artillery, though. You have to prove you're deaf and blind for that.

The fact of the matter, a suttering can be corrected through speach training. I believe King George was able to manage this. Not easy, but not impossible.

What a powerful episode and a great show. They were so good at making Charles seem like a jerk but as we got to know him he was an honorable and caring man. Watching Mash as a kid was good but it’s different as an adult. I’m in my early 50’s now and it’s still a great show but over the years I have definitely come to love and respect Charles E Winchester.

Three main cast members were replaced, each with their opposite. Henry Blake undisciplined, civilian pushover, replaced by Sherman Potter a regular army career soldier. Trapper, a womanizing alcoholic who constantly cheated on his wife and would break every rule including lying to investigators replaced by BJ who was a wholesome family man not as willing to do unethical acts even if they were good in the big picture. Frank Burns the not too bright backsliding hypocrite, wannabe soldier and incompetent surgeon replaced by Winchester, the snobbish intellectual yet caring man who is arguably the best surgeon in the unit.
