However, being a longboarder that isn’t all that experienced in those conditions, I still managed to catch waves by understanding wave direction and angling my takeoff. I have a couple vids in here about that too. One of my recent vids called Angled takeoff…. Or an older vid from a couple years back called takeoff beginners and novices. The cloudiness you see is a wax surfacing agent in the hot coat resin. Hopefully you didn't use the same resin for the lamination. If you didn't sand the first hot coat layer before adding the second one, this is the reason why the second application peeled off.

      @@doncunningham3124 thanks, I appreciate the explanation but I did sand the first hot coat before adding the second, but there were some issues with the curing and when the resin did kick it seemed to flake when sanding. Ridiculous that you didn’t want to wax your board. You must control the speed, direction and trim of the board through your feet. So having a good “grip” on the board is gonna be really important. And OF COURSE the board matters for any maneuver you want to do, including getting to the nose. Do you even understand what’s happening when you’re surfing a wave?

    By doing the type of cutbacks you show in this video you are dropping down to the dead part of the wave and then riding back up it. Trim Tip: Try shifting your weight back to slow the board down (the opposite of placing your weight forward to speed up) so that you can STAY in the critical part of the wave directly next to the curl/whitewash. This is a lot of fun and allows you to really control where you are in the wave and sets you up for being able to perform a lot of additional maneuvers - including dragging your hand along the face of the wave. Happy surfing!

    • @noseridesnosedivessurfvlog8634
      @noseridesnosedivessurfvlog8634 Před 6 měsíci

      Great question, the rule of thumb is, whoever is closest to the peak(where the wave is breaking)... but this can also be very confusing especially for a novice. If you are missing waves then the more experienced surfers tend to take it as a sign that even though it might be your wave, instead of letting it go to waste, they might as well go for it too... which if they are good surfers and you actually catch the wave then they will give it to you, but if you miss it, then they will be in position to take it and not let it go to waste. Depending on the lineup, it's usually tough out there if you don't know anyone, because no matter how friendly you try to be, most surfers(male and female) think of you as the competition and keep their poker faces on... which is kind of ridiculous... but there are a lot of people that surf and only so many waves... I too notice that there are a lot of egos that just padle at everything, so I actually to be honest can't give you any other answer than you have just as much right to be there as them and that sometimes being a little egotistical in an ego driven sport is necessary. Although I am still the kook that is giving everyone a friendly nod and smiling and trying to share the stoke... the absolut best thing I can recommend is to padle out with a couple of good mates, every surfer hates it when they have a lineup where they think they know the pecking order and then a group of three new surfers join in... it's usually enough to interrupt the flow of the lineup and frustrate the ego maniacs so that they will padle in with disgust Lol! Good luck and stay stoked!

      Hang in there bro. Learning to surf is so grounding.. for me, every time I wipe out and surface, I laugh at myself because it reminds me of how much of a beginner I am. The beginner mindset is something I need to be reminded of often in surfing but also in my everyday! One of the things that helps remind me when I am struggling is, that even though it appears like everyone else has it all figured out, we are all going through personal struggles, so nobody has life figured out! Imposter syndrome and self doubt...funny, the more I learn in my field of work the more I realize the less I know, perhaps the imposter syndrome is just your inner demons smiling at you and saying, no matter how much you think you know, keep going because as cheesy as it sounds, you can always learn more. Perhaps confidence comes from knowing that you are still in the process of learning? Fuck! Sorry bro... don't mean to preach, I am just trying to figure it all out too! Good luck with your surfing and in the grand scheme of it all, you might as well believe in yourself because you have absolutely nothing to lose! ... there I go again... I'll stop now! So if you are on a longboard but plan on moving down to short, id recommend to start using your knees already because you wont have anything to place your toes on sooner or later

    Hey mate, Small point of feedback, your popup really needs work. You seem to popup with your front foot almost pointed straight towards the beach. A few pointers Have you tried staggering your hands? It creates almost 50% more room for your legs to travel through, watch the video of hydromind called: Pop Up On Your Surfboard 2X Faster Have you worked on your hip internal rotation? As in, stretching the hip internal rotation 4x a week for about 1-2minutes for a period of 2-3 months? This pretty much fixed my issue, I am literally instantly in position with my back foot perfectly positioned as well as my front foot not point towards the beach. Good exercise for hip internal rotation on youtube is: powerfull banded hip mobilization. I looked at a few videos from years back and this is holding you back as a surfer man, you can progress so much by working on this, I know because I was in EXACTLY the same spot as you!! It will keep your joints healthy as well as you pass into old age!!!

      Thanks for the feedback. I focused on it a while back and had some results, now I feel like I no longer focus on it and the lead foot lands mostly 45 degrees between the rail and the nose. Sound advice, and thank you for your concern🤙 and thanks for your stoke

    As a great lakes surfer, ahhhhhh, I can relate. My trips to the ocean have been such an eye opener. Definitely believe in getting great waves as often as you can swing it. Good video!

      Thanks man… yes I learned to surf in messy waves… and there is an art to it for sure… and fun for sure, but as far as improving faster.. good conditions are a must🤙🤙

    I feel it bro, my last session my pop up sucked and I caught sweet F.A, yet the session before that my pop up was smooth and I was trimming along the face. We’ll see what tomorrow brings haha

    Sage advice. I do land based drills, and stuff. I got a chance to try stuff out there, really fun. This weekend was bordering on epic out here. We had decent swell, with nice morning incoming and offshore. A rare treat!

      I am jealous! 😃 But great to hear you are getting some epic sessions in! And yes, really fun to practice onland... almost like it is a completely different hobby that benefits surfing as a bonus. 🤙🤙

    Paddling, and Plateauing, progress will happen as you get a tiny bit better at all the little things. Time in the water, my friend. Let the kid out to play in the water. Try body surfing, or using a way different board. Go fin less, or fin first. In those knee slappers, leash less. Challenge yourself to stop falling off, and complete every ride. No wet suit even. Mix it up! Keep the stoke alive!

      Agreed! Let the kid out sounds about right🤙🤙 always more fun playing and goofing around, laughing at yourself so that you take yourself less seriously! Thanks for the pep talk, much appreciated🤙🤩
