If anyone was watching what Boston Dynamics just showed and what Tesla is doing with the Optimus robot, those are what are going to replace huge swaths of union labor in the auto industry. There are no laws to stop it currently as it's just automation. The auto industry leaders are practically salivating over prospect. Perhaps the UAW needs to start trying to unionize robot technicians and AI experts, because they will be the only humans left in auto production within a few years.

Immigration should definitely be a conversation in regards to the concerns of not enough work to go around, but I think the larger part of the equation is corporate executives that want to maximize hours and minimize pay to maximize profits. Not having strong labor protections is going to accelerate that issue. So I think that while it might not be the entire solution, I do think it would have a larger effect than any alternative. There are some other measures that could definitely supplement this though, stronger immigration issues could be one, stronger reproductive rights to allow for better population control could be another.

Cus the whole point of the law is to give the impression of fairness. Laws like this are meant to exist only when they are not actually effective. Wherever profits are threatened, they'll make a loophole. That's the whole point of the government - protecting the capitalists. Hey folks, it largely wont matter. Being exempt isnt going to remove the impact of raising min wage...why would a person get up at 3 in morning to do semi skilled labor(baking) when they can make 3 bucks an hour higher for unskilled labor at a mcdonalds. That increase in min wage will drive wages up everywhere because folks dont care what they do for a job. They work for money and if i can make more doing less im going to do the job that pays more. If anything this will drive more kiosk system to reduce the need to labor but hey of you dont like that just break the kiosks by "accident"....you as a consumer can drive the change you want by driving their maintence cost higher than the hourly labor rate...theres a reason self check outs are starting to be removed. They dont deliver the roi they were sold on and it only takes a few years for the dumb mbas to figure it out.
