Night-time Wildlife Report [Eugene, Oregon, August 2024]
August 2024 night-time trail camera captures of animals on my property in Eugene, Oregon's Blanton Ridge area. The most reliably active area is under a long fence where the ground has been dug out to allow smaller mammals to cross under.
This month's new arrival is a wood rat. But if rats aren't your thing, the skunks, raccoons, and deer have young ones.

AI Altered Content:
The Bushnell Trail Cameras have an 18 or 20 fps frame rate (my 2 Bushnell cameras have different firmware). I use Topaz Video AI to turn these clips into 24 fps, a standard frame rate and the minimum for CZcams. Topaz Video AI is not that great at creating in-between video frames when there is fast motion.
The cameras I use:

    A friend of mine has a house on Blanton, near the Loraine hwy. I used to live right behind the friendly street market on Monroe and the amount of wildlife that came down the hill was amazing. I now live out in Danebo, and I see all kinds of animals and birds out here as well. I even saw a pair of beavers in the Amazon creek.

    Dave, does it bother you at all to have a black bear wandering around in your backyard?

    • @ddessert314
      @ddessert314 Před 5 dny

      Not really. I have those door handles that let you pull down on them to open the door and I make sure they're locked at night. I think the real problem is when people leave their bird feeders, trash, or garden/yard waste outside and the bears find them and become accustomed to finding food at your property. Then they're around much more often.

    Great-looking video. A friend and I were there in late October one year, paddling kayaks from the bank of the lake at Trapper Creek. The kokanee were gathering there in large numbers and about a dozen bald eagles were soaring around or perched in trees, keeping a close eye on them. If one made the mistake of rising up to within about a foot of the surface, an eagle would dive and come up with a fat fish. It was such a fascinating spectacle, we spent more time watching them, than paddling. We did not see any mergansers on that trip. It's amazing how they can swallow such fish and still remain mobile. I don't imagine they would have to eat anything else for a couple of days.
