I never will forget in 2013 my elementary US history class was covering WW2. My history teacher Mr.Bishop was and still is awesome. So that’s a hit to the brain stem. This is where both your heart rate, and breathing rate, are controlled from. And of course, every other brain to body instruction goes through. What I find interesting, is that, as a mammal, that’s not even where your basal metabolic rate is controlled from. That’s further up in the brain. Why? Because as evolution occurred, as the brain grew, that’s when the switch from cold blooded to warm blooded happened. Mammals are characterized by, beyond other things, large brain to body ratio, essentially saying, higher intelligence than their reptile or amphibian competitors that occupy the same niche. And on top of that, yes mammals warm blooded, need more food than reptiles. However, their ability to not have to spend pretty much most of their time regulating body temperature, and instead, can spend essentially all their time getting food, means they often out compete the reptile for that niche. But this, is the absolute worst place to get hit. Delta force guy knows that

Hiroyuki is so talented. I felt compelled to rewatch this scene after seeing his epic performance in Shogun. I'm so glad that he's getting the opportunity to shine by being cast in a lead role for once!

I really love this scene for some reason, like Thomas is a Ranger, a very elite member of a unit. But you can relate, he’s scared. He doesn’t want to get on that 50, and who could blame him? Personally, I’d be terrified. The delta force guy is like “it’s mine” Was delta force guy any less scared of getting killed by manning that 50? Realistically probably not, it’s even possible he knew the danger even more, and it might have been more than Thomas thought. But to make it to delta force, yeah, you’re likely that dude. And make no mistake about it. It’s not about wanting to hurt other people, it’s about protecting the man next to ya. That’s likely why he’s gunning backwards. He’s not trying to protect himself, what he’s trying to do is protect the other men in the humvees behind him.

Hoot is a true soldier. He accepted the fact he could die tomorrow when he joined the military. He was ready to sacrifice everything. That's why he didn't hesitate to take the 50 when the younger guys probably just joined for the GI bill.
