Notes: BEFORE YOU TOUCH THE BOAT: - Check the Dinghy Log - Identify the rudder type: one has an uphaul and downhaul line and the other has a lever GEAR PREP: - Paddle - The club requires you to have a paddle on the boat - Store it under the gennaker bag, but not inside of it as it could tear the gennaker sail - Anchor - Take a few minutes to inspect the anchor and make sure it’s rigged properly - The line should smoothly go from the chain over the metal fitting at the front of the boat back under and then tied to the thwart - The anchor should be tied to the thwart with a Bowman knot and a couple of half hitches - Secure it so it doesn’t deploy on its own - On the quest there are a couple of bungees that the anchor crowns fit into - After the anchor is secured, coil the line and the chain and stuff them under one of the bungees SAIL PREP: - Sail cover - undo the clasps on the main sail cover - do not step on the boat on the trailer aft of the wheels - undo the Jib cover - it’s secured by either the main halyard or the gennakar halliard - figure out what is holding the halliard in place - could be cleated or tied; just undo it - pull the sail cover down as you’re unzipping it - once down undo the halliard on the sail cover - undo the ball - keep the halliard firmly in your hand so it doesn’t fly away - secure the halliard to the loop on the mast with a few half hitches and take the slack out via halliard cleat TENSION: - forestay and shrouds are tensioned loose - First tension the halliard for the Jib - if you don’t you’ll have problems furling / unfurling - the tensioner arm is hidden in the front of the Jib - use the tension handle to tighten / release them when you’re ready - de-tension it to put it away Putting boat in water part 1 - Make sure there’s a bow line - Make sure the masthead float isn’t cocked to an angle - check to make sure figure 8 or other knot is tied at end of jib sheet - check security of hiking straps - pull the tiller extension - Drain the bilge via drain plug MAIN SAIL - CORVA - Cunningham, Outhaul, Reefing, Vang - All of these must be uncleated and loose Putting boat in water part 2 - WEAR PFD when lowering boat or on dock - Operate crane with orange box - Don’t let the boat spin - Short lines connect to loops near the shroud - long one goes to a line at rudder post RIGGING THE BOAT ON LAND - Put a cooler + PFD under back of the boat - make sure main sail is pulled all the way through the block - check the falls to make sure they’re about the same length - connect halliard to head of the sail - make sure ball is on the side so as not to hit the vang fitting - feed the lug in, pull up and start feeding the bolt rope(?) - check the vang rope (which holds the boom down) if you can’t get the rope all the way up - lastly attach the tack of the sail to the hook REEFING - Make sure COV lines are loose - put the reefing lug in - tension the line with main halliard again - there are reefing ties in the quest - don’t ties the excess around the boom
