93 Prostar Restoration Project pt.14 - Water Testing Update
Welcome back! Thanks for watching, dont forget to subscribe so you dont miss any updates on our Prostar Renovation.
Boats gets better and better by the day, we intall a new windsheild gasket, bimini track slides, cup holder install and new coil due to trouble shooting the the engine shutting down after long periods of time due to the coil over heating not allowing spark.
We installed the new coil sunday and ran the boat for (2) hours with no issues, hopefully the boat doesnt shut down again like it was, time will tell and ill keep you updated.

Today we go over re-vamping the radio bracket I made back in 2011 to fit our new Fusion RA-70. I recut the hole and made it fit the new 70 unit from our older RA-50. From there I wrap it in some leftover 3M wrap which turned out amazing & reinstall the radio bracket. GAS TANK DAY, So my fuel tank sat for entirely to long and was VERY nasty. I tried everything and could not get the ethanol sludge to un-bond from the fuel cell, Extremely frustrating! thanks, i figured i'd share how i am setting up my boat. I will actually get my new cupholder installed tonight, i havent ordered the LED cup holders yet but the carbon fiber holder came in a week ago. been overhauling the transmission. ill get a video out asap on it.
Should I buy that for mine? I tried everything to get mine to start, the neutral light will come on when I turn the key over, but it won’t even try to start. The only thing I haven’t replaced is the spark plug
I sold this bike a few years ago but the E3 helped with the spark.

its becuase these carbs where not made to ilde like this, made to run pressure washers and crap like that wide open. the facorty jets are not the same size either.

you can drill a hole one both the barrels and add a small vacuum ports. also add o2 sensors for the exhaust and add a wideband gauge. that's what i did for my honda gx630 takes all the guessing game out! and a timing light that offers rpm feature.
I’m actually gonna be throwing some up at the cart this year or the different clutch, alternator kit, and more than likely go with a Mikuni carb. But definitely a good idea.

maybe like 24 at like 4800 rpm and now with the 6:1 gears i can run like 39 at the same RPM. i need to go with a larger tire. i am only running 22x12
Just one question, you couldn’t just install the air bag that has two plugs vs buying another clock spring?
I converted my truck to have steering wheel controls which required a new spring
Air bags are about $500.00 .
Where did you get your torque converter and was it expensive?
amazon, they where cheap when i got it, not so much now. if your on a budget its cheaper than Vegas Carts

For what I paid years ago it was a no brainer. i think it was like $130 then, I lost a few MPH but overall no complains. I went back to my CV -tech though, lower rpms at cruising speeds for me is more ideal
What kind of torque convertor do these come with stock? I’m trying to source one
CV Tech- or they did when I got mine from Vegas Carts but I believe they have their own version of the 780 now. I went with the amazon one just as a trial and no complains other than loosing some top end speed. I just recently went back to my CV-tech because we went on a trip with alot of country roads and i wanted the higher speed with lower rpm.
I had the throw weigt ears break due to a bearing being bad on the input shaft. I cant find a replacement. Do i need it aince im not running the governor. If so what are they called exactly. Any help is appreciated
you can take it out, just find a bolt that is slightly smaller than the hole and put a nylon nut and double washers on it with red lock tight and call it a day.
I have a new 670 and the Equus 8068 tach and tried the inductive pickup first. It was all over the place for a little bit and then stopped working at all. I then used a "piggy back" spade connector to use the "green wire" direct connection to the negative post of the coil as you did in the video. I set the tack at the "1000" point. I am getting no reading at all on the tach. Do you or anyone else have any suggestions? Is there any way to determine if I just got a bad tach?
Hey man, have you maybe tried the other coil as well? not sure what cart you have it in and maybe your motor is reversed the other way? not sure where you got the tach, i got mine on amazon, id maybe get a new one if you can? i dont believe you can do the inductive pick up on these motors like you can on a briggs. its been awhile since i did mine but mess with the button on the back of tach, mine sometimes messes up when it first starts up and i rev it and it goes way. I'd say it work 90% of the time with no issue.
I am doing this tach install very soon on my stage 2 Duromax 440cc 1999 EZGO workhorse.

After a year I will say it this way. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO. Now, I have mudders or large all terrain tires and they are stripping out the splines on my well tightened splined OEM golf cart,. I am a Vietnam Era Vet and I basically don' t have much time for the drama. There has to be a key axle/hub lock on the market. This stock set up sucks.I can strip the splines as fast as I install them.
unfortunately the Ezgo are very prone to stripping out the hubs. i bought OEM hubs for mine and i get maybe 1.5 years out of them before they are shot. I am always making sure the castle nut is tight. I think it depends on how you drive and what your power plant is also.

Just got mine installed having issues with the engine popping and trying to get the idle down, a little hard to get started as well. What tachometer did you use?
Also what exhaust did you use? I’ve got a club car and used the exhaust that came with the kit from Vegas carts. Mine is super loud yours actually sounds pretty quiet compared to mine lol
I had massive issues with my carburetor when I first got the engine, i pretty much have it dialed in now it’s say 85% . I just can’t let my motor idle for extended periods of time or the plugs will load up. For the tach it should be listed in the video with a link but I believe it’s a Equus tach.
I used the header it came with . I just recently added a new double layer of header wrap and installed Stringer mat on the bottom of the seat to quit it down and for heat . I’m having issues with my shifter cables getting to hot and ruining the cable after 6 months. Work in progress to find a solution

My quad died mid ride and won’t start. it started twice with choke but instantly turned off when I stopped the choke. I was thinking something dirty in carb or maybe spark plug?
Check your plugs and see alternate. They are maybe your carburetors running to Rich and fouled the plug.
If your not using the governor, throw it in the trash, it has no purpose and adds rotating weight
I’ll remove it if I ever take the differential apart again
I just did this same upgrade on my new predator 459cc motor. I'm repowering my American Sportworks (Landmaster) UTV. Should be dropping a video on the completed install this coming weekend. How as the comet 780 been holding up for you ?
I actually love it, works great, has given me ZERO issues at all, i just want a larger clutch to be able to cruse faster with lower RPMs, not so much after the top speed.

@@1620GarageAndFarm Yeah the 670 clone is definitely the way to go it works great and I literally abuse the crap out of this thing and it hasn’t skipped a beat. I don’t know about long-term exposure over a genuine Comet but for the price savings especially what I paid for it I lost nothing. I expect when I put the 1190 Comet Installed on there I should be pushing 45+ miles an hour if needed lol
@@keithellett4283 I picked up the new Predator Max Performance 459cc . I'm shocked how well it goes. I wanted to go 670 .. But I was not sure it would fit.

How are you liking that ebay 780 knock off comet? My old CVTech in my American Landmaster is junk.. I just swapped in the new 459cc predator from Harbor Freight.. I'm going to order this same clutch this week.
I plan to go with a 1190 comet, ill make a video of all 3 different ones. only thing is you have to run an adapter because its 1-1/8 shaft.

Mine is a 2002, axle looks the same, and something either broke or disconnected in the axle since the reverse doesn’t work, it’s been awhile an I have gotten around to it yet. I searched for a lift kit but couldn’t find one, were you able to find one? I think I may have missed it but what was your purpose for changing the gears? Increase Speed?
I would check your shift cable before going to the rear end. i've broken 2 cables in 4 years so it happens. I changed out the gears because of the new vtwin, the vtwin didnt have the same size diameter clutch as the oem one so I lost a tremendous amount of top speed and the vtwin is very loud compared to the original Robin engine . so I now have 6:1 gears with a 670 Vtwin on 22x11 tires. and a comet 780 clutch, I run about 29-31. If I reinstall my CvTech clutch i run about 39-40. once it cools down here I plan to run an 1190 Comet, I am expecting speeds of 45-50. I'll do a full video on it. for the lift go with a long arm. I have the Jakes, I love it, took me a year after i order it to get it. There is also Rhox long arm too.
Will this fuel pump have enough pressure to be used on a mud motor? I'm getting this motor to build a mud motor but am told I need to replace the fuel pump to a low psi fuel pump
i dont see why not, is the motor stock? I would like to think if your setup isnt in need of "high flow" of fuel youll be fine
I run an electric fuel pump on my mud motor. I have a built 670 on a swamp runner long tail. When the engine was stock, the carb would run dry at WOT. I hooked up a low pressure electric fuel pump, and that fixed it. Now, the motor has a bunch of go fast parts and I’m using a Mikuni 34mm carb. It definitely needs an electric fuel pump to support the factory pump.
Keith if you still got those gears out of your ME29 gear box that you did the speed gear swap out I would like to buy them if you still have them.
I sold those years ago, I always buy my stuff from CPP. they are great. just make sure you order the right stuff.
That filter for the fuel pump pulse line has a coalescerfilter in it, not crack haha, basically like steel wool. So that’s normal looking. It is supposed to allow oil vapors to condense on the steel wool, and allow that oil to drip back to the engine. This keeps liquid oil out of the pulsing diaphragm of the fuel pump. Also definitely have too many fuel filters in line of gas flow, I think that would restrict the weak flow provided by these type of pumps.
That particular filter was replaced with a nice inline marine filter and the pulse pump was changed out to a Mukini
What is the ideal exhaust temperature you are shooting for?
mainly going for equal temps among the 2 than ideal.

Was it a pain to get it started initially? I'm about to complete a swap on my wife's golf cart and I cannot get the engine to stay running. It fires up when I spray starting fluid or gas in the engine but then dies out. Literally a brand new engine that hasn't ran for more than 30 seconds.
honestly, if its as new as you say, take that shit back. they will give you another, just drain the fuel. the motor should run perfect out of the box. I did just post a new video last week about how to 100% dial in your carb, I HIGHLY recommend doing that for a golf cart application.
Where are you located ?? I was thinking about matching the jets the same size. I’m in iowa and we’re about 1000 ft
South FL, I would match them reguardless and i'm sure it would run better just from doing that. For the Elevation difference I would just play around with the mixing screws. Turn them both in all the way and 1.5 turns out each and use this as a baseline. Good Luck

I love this motor, I got this motor at a good time on price, they have gone up a bit since I got mine 2 years ago. what do you plan on running this in? my golf cart definitely needed tweaking after I installed this that I was not ware of when I decided to go with this engine set up. You need to upgrade your fuel pump for more flow, if you running the motor for a mud/river boat you wont have to mess with the carb but if you are going to run in a golf cart like myself youll need to watch my latest video on the 670 for matching you jet size and tuning.
How much slack did you have to put in the belt? Mine gets stuck in gear with it running, you cant shift it.
It honestly depends on what set up you have, I have a full Vegas Carts setup (clutch, engine mount, belt etc.) if your running m setup, which is a 2002 Ezgo St Sport 2x2, while running VC 47" belt the center distance between the clutches should be close to 12.5”. You want the clutches to be perfectly inline with one another from the backside, also if your running a CVTech 06 clutch which is roughly 1/2" bigger than a 780 style. I will have a new video up soon comparing the 780, CVTech & the 1190 Comet. Just note the CV is more HD and can offer a higher speed because its larger but they are hard to find these days, the 780 is go to these days.
Sounds pretty good 👍 I just bought The same motor for a six-wheeler I'm rebuilding... A Max 2. Before I purchased it I was getting some pretty good reviews on the motor... I then seemed to come across more reviews that say this motor sucks?? What's your overall review of this motor? Appreciate your time!
This motor will depend on what you plan to use it for, its way over kill for what i am using it for, I could have went with a 13hp/ Predator 420 and had almost the same result but I went full send. I think you'll have better luck in the 6x6 with the big block due to the extra torque you'll have if needed. my only complains are this motor no matter how much you baby it is a pig on fuel with the OEM carb. Also not the quietest engine either, all though I am not running the OEM muffler. I would recommend buying a wiring harness for this as well from Vegas Carts, little pricy but well worth the money due to the plug & play factor. The charging system isn't the best either, I go through a deep cycle battery about every 6 months, but I have a lot of accessories on my cart (8) rocklights, head & tail lights, 400 amp stereo etc. Overall 7.5 out of 10, when I bought mine I think I paid like $720 out the door + warranty but they have jumped in price a lot since then. the carb is a downfall to the engine, maybe look into running a Performance 670 30mm carb set up(would probably help with fuel economy as well) . I cant remember the engine compartment size but I'd run the Factory muffler if you can too. good luck!

Hey, what's your overall review of this motor?
I love it, however there is a lot of small crap you may or may not have to change if you go this route. For example I had to change my gear ratio to 6:1 to get a lower RPM . The OEM carb is not the best, pain in the butt to maintain and even get right depending on your driving style, non matter how much you tune it, it only really likes to run 2000+ RPMS. My only other main complaint it how loud this engine is compared to my factory 9 hp Robin engine was, for cruising purposes in like a neighbor hood you will need a 6:1 gear to keep your rpms & engine noise down, I am looking at a making a custom header using a Walker tractor muffler to make it quite and stealth. (I'll make a video before and after when I do) So all of those are my major complaints about running this engine, I am running it in a 98 Ezgo ST Sport , my cart runs 39 mph on 22" wheels and has a crap load of torque as well. I do plan on doing some internal engine work like heavier springs, lifters & push rods so I don't have to worry about running over 4500 rpms . I only paid like $679 + warranty for mine, I know there over 30% now days but you could get one on sale if you wait. let me know if your looking for something more specific
@@keithellett4283 hey, thanks for the detailed info Keith! I did purchase a 670 motor, couple months ago. It was on sale.. I had a coupon ,Plus I opened a credit card grand total was around 650.oo. This is going in my max2 6-wheeler.. which won't be getting done anytime soon. Just finished making a frame for the motor. Self-contained cart, battery box, gas tank so I can start it up every month. It seems to run good.. however, the rubber cone shaped grommet that holds the dipstick in pulled itself away from the dip. Did you have any issues with the dipstick? Would love to see more videos on other changes that you're going to make, thanks again!
@@billmers3219 YES i have been trying to find a aftermarket replacement, so far nothing. I may try and fab up something with a better grommet . ill post a video if I can find one or make one.

My great uncle has an EZ go txt. It seems to not be engaging at the rear transmission now. The CVT is working flawlessly. I tried operating the linkage by hand but to no success. Looks like something is wrong with those throw weights.
what year is it? single or dual cable ? I have the single cable for shift linkage and I had to replace all the little springs and washers for linkage at the transaxle. check those. like a $12 fix if its the issue
@@keithellett4283 found it to be the left hub. Splines were gone. Axle is “ok” I think. Hub is on the way. Thanks!

@@keithellett4283 it was drivers side. I think I got two for $75 from husky parts. We’ll see if they fit. Look to be identical part. Don’t have serial number for the cart. Taking a guess it’s 91’^
