Pinch you screen in on iPhone to see motors in action or use magnifying modes on desktop That’s cool John !
I bought this and misplaced the box. Thanks for this posting.
Now I gotta check my local Dollar Tree....you could use a homemade optocoupler with the LEDs and control 120 volt lights...great for Halloween or a game room...for a buck and a quarter, that's unreal...
The driver fets could drive a 5 volt relay coil or a solid state AC or DC relay to control any load you can think of. Just shot a second video where I control two DC gearmotors instead of the LEDs.
Io lo possiedo con la scatola originale. Quanto può valere?
I am not sure of the current value, have not seen one for sale in a long time.
Would be cool if you could say Gort. And he would light up.
There are programable voice chips that will do that, but they cost more than $1.25.
That's pretty cool! Years ago, getting that kind of technology in a device would have cost a lot of money. Now they're a dime a dozen! 🤪
Cool device
So instead of the clapper we use our voice now ! PS - in the description you have it as $125.00 ! I thought that was too pricey to take apart lol
Yes, I saw that price error as well. Changed it.
That’s definitely impressive for the price.
What a deal 😮 ! Shoot you can hook up an Auxiliary battery 🔋 pack ? The speaker cap for Echo
does it need lube ?
Depending on the application I would say, YES.
What happens if you sing "Ballad of the Green Berets" at it?
Worth a try.
I think there are more commands not written in the instructions. Big Clive did a vid on them.
Yes, I saw Clives video and comment back then on the commands. So far, I have not found more, but that does not mean they are not there. The instruction sheet is also in Spanish but the commands in the Spanish instructions are in English, so maybe only the commands listed are there. Now I wonder if the chip could be reprogramed.
@@Robothut It's so difficult to filter the words, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a huge database needed to achieve the task And that changing a command won't be trivial.
@@mrwoodandmrtin I agree. It is amazing that they got it down to a single chip to decode the words and MIC input as well as the function output drivers.
@@Robothut And all for that super low cost, including shipping to the US...!
@@mrwoodandmrtin Just amazing.
Very cool toy, and great video as always. Heads-up: you might want to fix the two typos in the video title. : )

1909 for 1990…and I notoriously screw up dates myself, so I can relate!
@@legiontheatregroup Thank you. I never would have found that on my own.
Hi, John. The ad from February 1993 "Collecting TOYS" magazine I've had since new has the price at $499 MTH Columbia MD, first ad in the mag just inside the cover. Laurie and I were in a tough way at that time and I couldn't even think of spending that but I could dream. At Botstock many years back, someone had brought an original and this one to show as a comparison, the repro has a slightly different shape to Robby's torso and very slight litho differences between the two. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for looking up the price. Yes, at one time there was a thread on Alphadrome on the differences. But as you know, back then the web site would crash about once a year.
These are so cool! I wish I had known when these came out back in the 90s to have bought one.
Toy shop mag was the place to find vintage and reproduction toys back in the 1990's.
@@Robothut I guess I was out of the loop back then! 😅
Cool
Off the top of my head I think this one has always maintained it's place as the most valuable reproduction ever made. Generally $1500-2000 Has the big MTH Shipping box too. Toytent used this box for his reproduction box until I sent him the art work from the original box that was much lighter , a bit more colorful & had the Nomura logo on the lower right corner
Yes, I think because it was only reproduced once and done so well it will keep a high price. Even if China did a reproduction, you know it would not be as well done.
I have so many questions about this one. Is it an exoskeleton with a human pilot? If so, why is it fighting for the Martians? Did the Martians kidnap human Astronauts and turn them into cyborgs and force them to fight for them? Maybe the Martians look like humans?
I have always thought it was a robot controlled by the guy inside, so a exoskeleton of some sort. As for his motives, who knows. Our world is full of crazy people, I can just Imagin how many crazy people there are on other planets.
That’s really impressive!
Love this one always wanted one for my collection !! .. ty John

Great line right from the movie.
I have one in grey color, japanese box, box with window, is another variation but I didnt found more info about
I have the rotat o matic version in gray plastic. So cool that you have the gray TV robot version.
Just a quick question if you don't mind . I bought a used Robbie but it doesnt walk . It seems to do everything else ok just no movement . You seem to be the most knowledgeable person here on these robots . Any idea what I should look for to repair this ? Thanks for any help you can give .
There is only 1 motor, so does your Robby have any movement of the body or spinner in the dome? If they are not work either then the motor is not running. Now, the first thing to try is 4 new batteries. It only takes 1 bad battery "even new batteries can be bad". With low battery voltage you will still get sound and light but no motor action sometimes. Other than that, a person would have to open up the robot to get to the motor gearbox. The motor just might need some manual rotation with the power ON to start working again. The motor brushes can get gummed up from the lube used. If that does not fix it, then I would check for lose, broken or pinched wires between the motor and the control board.
Thanks for your speedy reply . There is no body or spinner movement .
Update . I replaced the batteries and now I have body and spinner movement and legs try to move but just a tiny bit .
@@rickjones9788 Well since there is only 1 motor gearbox if the legs do not move correctly then there is mechanical damage of some sort, maybe just something binding up a bit. You will have to take it apart too see what the deal is.
@@Robothut Yes I did check and there is damage to the cam action oval plastic plate that moves the legs and body . It has pieces broken off of it . I have no parts so guess it will have to be displayed and used as is . Thanks for the help .
Finally got round to printing this out for assembly - Thank you so much for this. One question - Why do the arm files have 120 Percent in the file name? Are they still OK for the body as is? I've just finished printing the legs and arms and am now starting on the body so I will probably find out in the next few hours - lol. Great model conversion.🙂
I go threw so many file revisions on these projects that file names could be just about anything .
@@Robothut LOL - I understand completely... Thanks for replying, sets you apart from other CZcamsrs. Just finished the body and all fits together nice.

@@Robothut Cool that you liked it. This improved version could keep the remote control (now wireless) and incorporate batteries (AA or AAA) on each leg...
Found it. 1: The motor sound is great! 2: Ha.. the backwards clock. 3: Bob's looking great in the photos. 4: Those reflected S shapes around the rear pods are insane. 5: That dish was always going to be a hurdle. MGM used fiberglass. which warped. 6: I thought they might pack the tubes with ice.. for bending. 7: Yup.. where the pipes intersect at the front flower is a fudge. not on the tangent point. 8: Chair looks mint! 9: Electric screwdriver geared motor can turn that dish??? 15:52 How would it even fit in there with the dive shaft taking up most of the sphere? Hang on while I goggle some electric screwdrivers from the 90s. I'm thinking that sphere should be full with some huge bearings to support the bending moment of the dish .. and a bearing support frame.. ???
The pipe leading out to the dish is loaded with bearing to support the 1/2 in shaft. The screwdriver motor will actually run on as little 1.5 volts and rotate the dish, but I run it on 3.5 volts as I recall.
@@Robothut Ah.. I'm trying to visualize how you would fit it all into that small brass sphere... I was expecting an inch shaft due to the weight of the dish. Did you happen to remember what electric screwdriver model you used?( I know the Makita ones didn't have a real gearbox but just used the plastic case to hold the two gears.) Even Bob's Barbeque worm seems an impossible fit..
@@mrwoodandmrtinBob's barbeque motor is located down in the main housing base, inside the top globe is just a right-angle gear drive. In mine there is steel pipe going up to a 3-way pipe adapter, one connection goes to the counterweight thing that is located towards the chair. Yes, it is a real metal counterweight. The other connection goes to pipe with the bearing in it for the dish. The dish being made of aluminum is not very heavy. Probably lighter than the fiber glass one used on the real prop. The gear motor fits inside the 3way pipe fitting.
@@Robothut Ah.... thank you. Bob started my curiosity about it all with his worm drive description. Having used a lot of Windshield wiper motors as a kid, I just knew the worm had to be offset to work. and that the time machine geometry meant the shaft for the disc could not be offset. So it seems impossible.
@@mrwoodandmrtin Bob is a great storyteller but not a mechanic, No worm drive, right angle bevel gears.
I'd heard that some folks were passing the MTH off as originals at one time due to not having a 'repro' label as on the Osaka version. Kelly has these 2, I believe they had different poinging sounds. “And just like that, you’re screwed.” Yeah, I’ve felt like that for a while…
I've always wondered how you resolved the 90 degree drive for the time machine disc.
It is covered in the time machine build videos I did. I used a small DC gear motor from a screw gun, then instead of pinning the large disc to the drive shaft I let it friction fit so it can get up to speed slowing and stop slowly without forcing the motor gear box.
@@Robothut Nice.. Many thanks! I'll go have a look again. I must have missed it. So clever to include a slipping clutch. These days you would have it regeneratively charging the Lipo battery pack.
