**Edit: excellent video. we have a lot of similar complaints, though you never touched on the visuals of either the nolan trilogy or the batman, i think that the visual look of every one of these movies directly reflects the quality of the representation of the batverse. --- leaving this comment before watching this video, as i'm already inclined to agree that the batman is a better batman story than anything in nolan's trilogy. a couple months ago i rewatched the nolan trilogy and just rewatched the batman a couple weeks ago so they're still fairly fresh in my mind, and the thing that struck me about the nolan trilogy is how heavily my love for those movies relied on heath ledger's performance, which was obviously incredible. begins has some cool things in it but overall isn't a very good story and batman straight up kills a guy, and rises is basically dogshit and vaguely implies that leftists are all terrorists just waiting for an opportunity to do terrorism. it also visually doesn't feel like a batman film. at least begins had a fairly strong aesthetic and felt fairly dark visually and gotham at least felt somewhat like gotham. rises was just NYC or chicago and was an incredibly visually bright movie. i also just don't really care for bale's batman voice. all that said, TDK is still a good movie that is very much being carried by ledger's joker. it's the best written and most interesting story in the trilogy, but even with those things going for it i never really feel like nolan's batman is actually batman. i had a bunch of 90s batman comics when i was a kid and, to me, batman is the dark and brooding detective that he was in those comics. not the "superhero, but like...edgy, man" guy that he is in nolan's trilogy. and while i also grew up with the silly and fun camp of TAS and batman beyond, nolan's trilogy doesn't have any of that either. the batman is the first batman movie that really does a great job at feeling like those really fucking dark 90s batman comics were brought to life. it's extremely dark visually and batman is an emotionally disturbed freak and AN ACTUAL PRIVATE DETECTIVE rather than just the unofficial arm of the gotham police. pattinson is also the far superior bruce wayne over bale. the batman also has the far superior story and tone. gotham is incredibly well done and feels like its own character, the riddler is a fucking perfect villain that reflects very real anxieties about the kinds of far right freaks that exist on the internet today and he does it very well. my one complaint about the batman is that i feel like the climax is a bit of a let down. i feel like the action scene at the stadium feels forced, like someone said "i guess we need to put an action scene at the end of our batman movie where he fights a bunch of guys" and tonally it feels like a 180 from the rest of the movie. i don't really like it, and i would have ended it differently, but it's not a weak enough climax to detract anything from the rest of the movie's accomplishments for me. anyway, really looking forward to the penguin show as that trailer was fantastic, and really looking forward to the next pattinson batman movie because holy shit he did such a great job. i hope that they don't do that thing that so many movies in the genre do where they fill the movie with too many villains and none of them are really allowed to shine, but the batman had 3 villains and all of them felt really well developed so i have faith that the next movie is gonna do a good job.
