    Wow what a sloppy and half asses install. The grade was garbage. You compacted with a hand tamper and a water barrel? You are supposed to use a vibrating plate compactor, the base looked like sand and crushed rock instead of roadbase or decomposed granite. Edges looked lousy, and then you didn’t even power brush it, instead you used a grandi rake only. I do real installs and have an eye for perfection and still have customers concerned with each step, how these owners allowed all this tomfoolery to go on without asking whats going on is beyond me.

    • @jacobs.671
      @jacobs.671 Před 6 lety

      exactly. I haven't done this since I was an early teen and even then this is sad. And for home depot to allow their name on this video is appalling. no real tamping, no power sweep/broom, no weed barrier, pre emergent, amaze,... I would be pissed at any price they threw at me. HD quoted me $9800 for my 1800sqft area and another company $3570 for the exact same grass... I can do that with infill and tool rentals plus install for about $2k on salvaged within warranty grass or about $3900 for new American made. I can only imagine how much the guys in the video charge for material and labor.

      We had a 35 ft roll, 15 ft wide that was rolled up for about 8 years, just sitting in our yard. We contacted an artificial turf installer and they did an outstanding job. On top of our compacted 3/4 minus, they brought in a load of "dust" - tiny pieces of rock with fine dust. We don't have DG in our area so that's what is used here in the Pacific NW. They made sure the turf's nap was going away from the house, which meant they cut our long roll into two 10 ft and one 15 ft sections and seamed them. They didn't just roll out the roll. That would have looked terrible because the nap would be going the wrong way. Infill, power brushing, etc. It turned out beautifully and looks very natural. You can't see the seams at all. Our dog loves it. A much better installation than on this video.

    • @Resin311
      @Resin311 Před 8 lety

      +Rudy Gallus Its an extremely cheap synthetic grass. You can tell by the looks obviously and the fact they are putting a infill in it like the silica sand to keep it standing up. Good synthetic lawn products dont use infill at all. This is some pretty shitty stuff.

    • @GivBuxwithdrew66
      @GivBuxwithdrew66 Před 8 lety

      I agree about the bad quality from HD and it's $3 psf. It is made in China. The infill free turf costs a lot more than this landscaping turf. I have used, top quality football and soccer field turf at 80% off of new prices. All used turf is made in USA and usually includes rubber infill. Most of my inventory is on the East coast. 3two3/6OI-TURF

    • @synlawncalgary4023
      @synlawncalgary4023 Před 8 lety

      This is not true at all Catlin. Most synthetic grass, regardless of the quality, requires some sort of infill. Some grass requires more than other. There are several synthetic grass infill products depending on the application.

    Nice easy rectangle area there Home Depot. But, try measuring a large area and purchasing the correct amount of turf to fit a non-proportional area with meandering arcs and curves, having to cut across the stitching for the 1st time in order not to have 50% wasted turf. This certainly would have been helpful. Everything else is a no brainer.

    I purchased our turf through Home Depot. Everything went well, however when it is hot outside the turf has wrinkles. I have considered stretching it but fear it will pull away from the edges when it is cold. I have not put the fill material in the turf yet and think that may solve the problem, but I am fearful that if it doesn't solve the problem it would be very difficult to stretch the turf at that point. I have the turf nailed down on the perimeter as well as the field. Please advise. Russ

    • @monicasmith1675
      @monicasmith1675 Před 6 lety

      Jennifer Barker Did you use gravel as a sub base? Properly done sub base will help minimize expansion and contraction to help avoid this problem

    • @J9XXL
      @J9XXL Před 6 lety

      They installed it cold and didnt stretch or allow to acclimate for a bit while sun was out before installing it. If it was cold/cooler out and they cut it and pinned it down for install, once it gets hot it wants to expand, and since its cut and nailed down, it will wrinkle up. Sloppy install.

    • @jacobs.671
      @jacobs.671 Před 6 lety

      as said before me- if you haven't solved it (this is for others who read your question too). now that's its been laid out- re stretch it since is been aired out long enough, re nail it, and use the infill. That is all if correct if you did lay down the proper sub base layer/s... if not it prolly wont happen as bad with the infill and re stretch but the shrinking can be from clay and basic dirt... which is why you prep with a sub base to minimize or completely eliminate that possibility.

  • @briangodley915
    @briangodley915 Před 9 lety

    I'm thinking about getting the 15 width for $37.20 linear ft at home depot. Do you really need to buy subsoil what if i already have a big dirt area flattened out? im just wondering if that would save me money. i dont see why i need to buy subsoil if its already flattened out dirt area. let me know when you can?

    • @oreocreaming2
      @oreocreaming2 Před 8 lety

      it's better to put the substrate down for draining and a better base.

    • @synlawncalgary4023
      @synlawncalgary4023 Před 8 lety

      You need to use at least 4-6" of 25mm (3/4") road crush. This promotes drainage and also keeps the weeds from coming through.

    • @toddbeestang
      @toddbeestang Před 7 lety

      What these guys said for sure. Like everything done well, the real work is in the preparation. You can save money and get by with short cuts but if you're going to spend that much on the turf do you really want to install it improperly and risk imperfections or future issues that might cause you to redo the turf? I suggest going the distance the first time every time. Commit to perfection or commit to sub par. No matter what project you do, you should always do it right. There are reasons why it's done that way.
