Is this the same as the Teach Grant? I am trying to get information on how to send in my low-income/community elementary school to fulfill my commitment.
Is there a way you could possibly post the full documentary? I saw your documentary on Gene Ransom and they mentioned this and I'm interested in seeing it.
God will judge black or white if they support white supremacy
White racism is demonism and sin James 2:9
Evolution is defeated
Based on 1 Corinthians 11:9 and James 2:9all eugenics is lawlessness and evil
This is important and worth sharing. Thank you.
Great work, Doug!! Always enjoy your films. Keep up the good work.🎉
My grandpa was born and raised in berkeley in 1955 (went to king middle school and berkeley high school same time as Gene too) and would always talk about how great the berkeley high school teams were back then and how great the athletes were on a national level, especially the basketball team. I have to admit I didn’t retain what he’d tell me back then as well as I could have being a little kid and all, but it’s cool that now I get to re-discover things I always knew about but forgot about over time. I was born in Berkeley and I was raised in the Albany, El Cerrito, Berkeley area my whole life. So it’s also wild to see parts of Berkeley from back in the day in this documentary. Parts that I grew up going to and hanging out at from childhood and still go to this day. Like seeing footage from 1969 of the same corner on Telegraph ave that I was just standing on the other day is kinda mind blowing to see. Or seeing parts of the Cal campus that looked the same back in the 60’s as it does today when I take walks through sproul to the glade with my friends. It just makes me realize how long things have looked the way they’ve looked and how long things have been around and how much history is really around here. I also went to Albany schools my entire life elementary through high school and played basketball and baseball through that time. All the kids that were in Gene’s clinic in Albany in the end of the documentary were kids I know and grew up with that were a grade or 2 ahead of me. I wish I would have gotten the chance to experience and learn some of what he knew about the game. But I think at that time I was still in 5th grade and hadn’t entered middle school, so I wasn’t in the middle school basketball loop yet. Also never knew Creedence Clearwater Revival was from El Cerrito! Having been an El Cerrito resident for long parts of my life that’s super surprising that I hadn’t heard that before!! Makes me proud to be an east bay kid lol, 510 all day🤙🌉 Overall this was a really inspiring and insightful documentary. Especially for anyone who grew up in this area and played sports. RIP Gene Ransom🙏
I was born and raised in Richmond. Graduated from Richmond High in the late ‘60’s. My folks moved to Richmond prior to WW2 and experienced the tremendous growth during the shipyard period. I remember riding the Key System bus from our house to go shopping downtown. This video fails to address what really killed the downtown retail area, it wasn’t the race riots of which I have a very faint memory of, but it was the building of Hilltop Mall. The old downtown had all the major retailers of the day…Macy’s, J.C. Penney’s, Woolworth’s and Breuners. There was even a See’s Candies on Macdonald Avenue. When the mall opened the retailers all abandoned the downtown and fled to the fancy new mall. A big part of the blame lies with the civic leaders at the time.
Did they tear down those old buildings? I've always wondered. I work at the company that owns JC penny, and we use the first floor, but the other two are abandoned.
@@dannythompson1948 It’s been a while since I’ve been down there. Frankly not very appealing to visit. Most of the downtown has been gutted, doesn’t look anything like it did in the “good old days”. Surprisingly I believe the old Mechanics Bank is still standing. My folks used to bank there.
I’m reminded of high school and my three years with UC Berkeley’s Upward Bound and what it meant to minorities trying to get to higher education. This will always be critical and hats off to this program.
Great film, Mr. Harris... It looks like an excellent program... Thanks for the light you have shed on this Richmond, CA., educational program.
The TOC was epic. So was the Redwood Baseball TOC at Albert Field.
This is NOT HYPE. I saw this brother, played against him; he was THE BEST!
I played against and with Gene Ransom from Redwood-Berkeley to the A's organization, and his game vs. Oregon was the best hoops game I ever saw.
I think I figure the problem out..
شكراً لطلاب أمريكا كلهم ❤❤❤❤❤❤ انهم ابطال حقيقيون❤❤❤❤❤ شكرا
Great documentary! Thank you for telling us the history of Richmond!
A superb documentary of a true legend on and off the court
Wonderful work Doug
The amount of local celebrities contributing to this is amazing but Cornell West How?😂
Super story and great content As a basketball junkie I never heard of him before I've heard of Cliff Pondexter though, because he came here in italy to dominate the spaghetti league. At the time it was the best league in the world out of the NBA. Cliff was unstoppable and would just score 30 or 40 every night.
I'm from DC and Phil Chenier have become a local intuition in DC first as a player then the Color Analysts for 25 years for the Bullets Wizards before he retured 2 years ago EastBay legend
Shooty Babbitt remember him too
Man Claudell Washington Rupert Jones those are names I haven't heard in 40 years didn't know they were ftom the Bay
Both were Major league baseball players
Me and my brother Odell Thurman are the Monticello Georgia gene ransom
🤲🏽
Thank you Mr Harris....I appreciate this story.
Gene was a good guy as a classmate and friend love 2 watch him all ball, was so happy when he made it 2 the Harlem globe trotters, Berkeley was such a great place 2 grow up and so so different from Oakland, that u just didn’t want 2 leave I feel so blessed 2 have been born and growing up her
I love learning about local Legends that for some unfortunate reason didn't make the league.
Amazing documentary...VERY well done
Great job Doug I to am from class of 75 , I was a photographer at Berkeley High taking photos at the games, I really learned a lot about what Gene and you were doing to give back, congrats and keep doing what you do my brother !!
The Best Documentary I’ve seen in a while Gene didn’t deserve to go out like that It really bothers me what happened but Gene is a legend and I’ve had the pleasure of participating in the Athletes United for Peace Midnight League and Gene has an incredible Heart Rip Gene Doug the healing journey is amazing very inspiring
Doug I don't personally know U, I thank U 4 putting such a wonderful tribute together 4 one of your best friends, & may I state for the record, Excellent work 4 even a BETTER person! I never had the privilege of meeting Mr. Ransom, speaking of myself, Gene was the BIGGEST DRAW which drew me to the oakland coliseum, & man was he fun to which! Confession time: I borrowed quite a few of his moves and brought them with me back to San Francisco; and boy did they ever work YES! Thanks 4 keeping his memory alive! P.S. I saw a small clip of gene standing with John Smith, cousin to Phil Smith! John is a dear friend of mine! Great job; fast becoming a BIG fan of yours! Keep the PAST alive.well done.....Mr. Hop...
Big Doug is a great documentary creator
Remember watching Ransom lead Berkeley to the TOC. It was a great showcase for local stars like Doc Shavers and Wolfe Perry, as well as future NBA champions Bill Cartwright and Kurt Rambis, to measure ourselves against as young high school hoopers. Also, mad props for getting Dr. West in your doc.
Interestingly the athletes of that era are much more eloquent than the athletes nowadays or the athletes of even the 80s 90s 2000s
The history of such great athletes plus the biography is fantastic
Cool father and son relationship
The recovery is insane Doug The whole documentary is just inspirational
How did you get into filming documentaries?
Love these oldschool documentaries
Big Doug B Town PLAYA
Gene was the real deal as a basketball player. Should have made it to the pros.
