I just have a general comment to make in my professional career as captain in the Merchant Navy to the Americans the Merchant Marine Am I 40 years at sea, I have been to 152 countries America maybe 30 or 40 times west coast and East Coast personally I would put Midway in the countries of the world it has no real positives as far as I know. Hi, it's interesting that you were referring to Canadians, Mexicans, and South Americans as being called Americans. I'm from the UK, and while I understand that those countries are part of the Americas, I would always consider each of these countries independently when naming them. Interestingly, I have never heard anyone call the people from each of those places americans. We would always refer to them as Canadians, etc... I wonder whether people from those countries refer to themselves as Americans or whether this is something that Americans think they do?

Sweden: Some history are taught at the ages of 7 - 10. More in-depth history, religion and geography are taught at the ages 10 - 13. It continues after that, but you were asking about the first time it goes "international" so to say and I would say it touches it already at the age of 8, but becomes more in-depth later.

As an American who has travelled most of the world in my career, I don't really care what non-Americans think. Stay home, don't come to the USA. I promise to stay away from you all as well.

I get irritated that people from the US say we are Americans, not from the USA. Technically Mexican, Canadians, Colombians, Argentinians are all Americans. It shows the self centeredness of the mindset.

You learn oxford english in germany, not american english.

A friend of mine worked as a tour guide in Stratford-upon-Avon but lost her job for laughing at an American tourist who had asked her, in all seriousness, what "that Shakespeare guy had done to get so famous". She wasn't laughing because this person wasn't familiar with Shakespeare, it was because she'd spent thousands of dollars to come to the UK, then signed up for a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon but still hadn't thought to find out why. Stratford's nice but no-one would visit without the Shakespeare connection.

Brazilian here. Luckly, I have a ton of US friends, so I know these cases aren't the default for the entire country... but sometimes, something real crazy happens. Yeah, I understand there was a time in US where white and black people couldn't interact, but c'mon... Recently had to teach an adult US woman that a white person and a black person can have a baby, who will mix features of both races. I guess she thought they were different species or something. These kind of people's blatant racism and ignorance (and lack of any aknowledge to it) always shock me, even after so many times seeing and experiencing it. Oh, and the number of times I felt pressured to sit for "lessons" about how my own country's language is actually Spanish, and not Brazilian Portuguese, are sadly uncountable. Some of them just can't admit they don't have a clue, double down, talk over you and refuse to listen. It's aggravating at best and suckerpunching-deserving at worst.

A friend of mine was a tourist guide in Stratford-upon-Avon and the reason she got fired was for nearly passing out laughing at an American tourist who had gone to all the effort of crossing the Atlantic, signing up for a tour to Stratford and only then asking "So what was this Shakespeare guy so famous for?"

Back in my university days in the US, i had a roommate from Venezuela. I am from South Africa. So one day my roommate invited over two of his US females friends. After making small talk one of the girl asked me where i was from to which i replied South Africa. She then asked my room where he was from, to which he replied Venezuela. Swear to God she retorted , is that in Africa too?.. we both burst out laughing and we replied yes, how did you know. She replied we learned it in school.

Tik Tok has an algorithm and it's much more than silly videos. If that's all you are seeing that's because of you. This though seems like a case of well, typical americans assuming things about things and/or people they don't know or never tried but heard about and thinking they are superior because of it. I had an American try ahd scoop me on the troubles in Northern Ireland. (where I'm from and grew up towards the end of the troubles). I was getting annoyed and asked where they are getting that information. They said they were 1/25 the Irish. That was it. That was thier whole justification for all thier answers.

We went to Boston recently and I was astonished by the number of friendly people who approached us when we "looked lost" especially in the subway system. My impression of Americans was formed by some TV shows and I expected rude people. Couldn't be nicer. It also helped we were from the province of Nova Scotia, Canada (Atlantic Coast) and for decades we having been sending a huge Christmas tree to the city to thank them for humanitarian aid they provided in December 1917 when a munition ship exploded in the harbour, blowing down thousands of homes. Long post, but I loved the visit to Boston.

It is weird to me that you are scared to walk alone in a parking lot at midnight. Personally where I live(Spain), if you don't go to any sketchy places usually at midnight there are still lots of people out and it is relatively safe to be out alone as a woman. I am used to walk back home alone much later than that and most of the time I'm only scared if I see suspicious people.
