One of my art instructors in college was an animator for The Simpsons during seasons eight and nine (for real; Brian Wells, just in case you want proof), and this was one of his absolute favorite scenes to cite as an example of the language of cinematography. The downward angle conveys how helpless Ned is in this moment, and all the negative space of the wide shot expresses how isolated he feels, but Brian's favorite aspect is how the camera is zooming out as Ned is saying "I just can't darn dang diddily do it anymore." The meaning of that move is, in Mr. Wells own words, was that "God is moving away from him." In this moment, Ned Flanders is truly alone.
