Biden is doing his level best to price us away from ammunition.
Midway has a two box limit on 209 shot shell primers and a 25 dollar hazmat fee on the two boxes. Complete Bullshit.
The huge increase in inline muzzle loaders using 209 shotshell primers has caused a huge increase and shortage
Worse is the hazmat fee, 25 bucks for two boxes of primers is insane
Not worth it at today's current prices. Save the primers for when we can't get ammo(again)
Iowa, I've seen primers and powder anytime I looked. powders by the pound, 38-45 bucks, primers, 80-90 per thou. Now, I live near Brownells, Bass Pro, Sportsmans Warehouse, Scheels, and Fleet Farm. Inexpensive handgun bullets, 30% price increase in two years. Shotshell wads, somewhat scarce. But I'm well stocked for now. A good four year supply minimum. Maybe longer.
The powder doesn't matter if you can't get large rifle primers for your chosen round.
I'm lucky to work as an RSO at a nearby range. I'm a 'brass whore.' I have literally 5-gallong buckets of sorted brass--5.56, 30-06, 40 sw, 45 ACP, and 9mm. Never pass up on this stuff.
We have outsourced everything since Bush sr. and now we’re paying for it.
Used brass is NOT going to make you miss your game. Stop with the only new brass stuff. I would much rather have brass that has been fire formed to my chamber. I’ve been reloading for well over 50 years. Mr stores don’t carry anything decent. I get all my ammo online. It’s cheaper and better ammo. I buy brass online. I steal clear of lake city brass. I use Winchester when I can. PMC and Remington also.
I just started using Starline brass for rifle and some specialty pistol calibers. Good stuff.
It's pretty much a given that properly prepared, used brass can be far more accurate than new brass. Lee's dies, especially the neck collet die, can make for extremely accurate and repeatable shots.
The copper spot price jumped 30% not 130%, annualized this is just under 7%/yr. Equal to or lower than other commodities and inline-ish with inflation. Nerdy math aside, this video is spot on. It's not just the US, its the world's ammo suppliers that need to increase production to better weather these disruptions.
Although it takes a commitment to mastering the technical expertise- it is possible to refubish spent primer cups and reload them. Been doing this for a couple years and now its just a part of the reloading process. Patent WO1995015298A1 is my favorite lead free recipe, and WW2 era FA-70 is also great choice, cheap and effective.
I have spoken with Luke very helpful hogdon great company
Great company and great people. I agree.
So when you have new brass, new powder, new primers, new bullets, what is REloaded if it is all NEW?!
@@jordangouveia1863 I guess you would call that handloaded ,if you want to be exactly correct about it.
You think the war in Ukraine might have something to do with it?
I have lots of brass. I can't find large rifle primers.
I was at bass pro Nashville and they can't keep large rifle primers in stock. Almost every time it's in its out ASAP! Rrrrr
Scheels has a lot of primers on hand, including large rifle.
We also have a prison in our county and once each year they will sell 55 gallon barrels of 223 and 38 special brass .a handloader can really buy a pile of brass there cheap.
We have a public range in national Forest, and every time I have been there I sweep. Up several Walmart bags full of once fired brass, often I will find several box's of brass returned to the ammo box and placed in the garbage cans.i collect and clean all I can gather and use.i have built a giant stash of empty brass ,just by stopping by the range on my way home from work and cleaning up the range.just before the opening of firearms deer season.there will be loads of people shooting, and in all the many years I have only seen a small handful of people who policed their empty brass,I always ask ,if they want it back after I sweep it up, nobody ever does, and several times ,when folks who are collecting their empties know why I'm picking up empty brass ,they will give me everything they have picked up.
I've done this for years on the public range. I used to have the kids pick up the Aluminum casings separately. We used to call those ice cream money for on the trip home. Once other shooter noticed me picking up casing they would volunteer boxes of spent casings on their was out.
The way manufacturers raise prices is to decrease production which they are doing.
I agree!
I've been reloading for years, and exclusively 223 for my ARs and precision shooting. Almost all of my substantial ammo fort is reloads, and range scavenged. I just bought a 5 gallon bucket of 1x shot brass, over 4500 cases, for $50.00.
That sounds like you got a great deal.
Plenty of free brass at my range also.
They have been replacing silver to copper in solar panels.
I waited 3 years just to buy 22lr at Wal-Mart. Crazy times and some was getting rich. Vaccines everywhere and no ammo.
And who or which country supplies Russian it’s powder
The Chinese and the Ukraine untill the Russians bombed it 2 weeks after the war started. There are others but these are the largest.
I bet Zelinski will sell at Rock Botton Cash Pricing.
👍🏻
I have only found large rifle primers once in 4 years and paid $125 per thousand, plus hazmat and shipping. Ridiculous price gouging
I used to reload. All of my reloading equipment was stolen and I have just not felt like it was worth replacing in today's market. When Obama became President, we were up in arms when a box of 1000 primers was $50. Now it's $95? That's just freaking absurd. Since I can't count on long-term availability of bullets, of primers, of brass, or of powder, reloading just doesn't make sense for me. I just buy ammunition as I need it.
How do you have only 3K subscribers? You clearly put a lot of work into your videos and a lot more people should be seeing it. I don't have a large number of followers on X but I am going to post a link to this anyway.
Thanks
I got 8 pounds of 700 X I don’t need.
I totally understand signing the government contracts, easy money but why leave the customers that kept the companys a float when there was no big contract to fulfill hanging out to dry?
Seeing plenty of powder, large rifle primers, that's a different story. Lots of small rifle and pistol primers.
I bought a pound of reloader 15 yesterday 74.00
Did Ukraine have anything before the war started. I believe they are putting the screws to Joe Biden. Wander how much is Joe Biden willing to give Ukraine to keep them quiet about all that money Joe got for the Biden empire.
The issue is in the White House. His name is Joe Biden. Seems like if he couldn't destroy it he would give it away.
There are no large rifle primers. Havent been any since 2020
airline and nozzle next to cooler could create static electricity when used also
Thanks
Primers and Black Powder Class A explosive, smokeless powder class B, you wanna be safe be safer seperate primers to a smaller cooler keep in different area also,
A cotton ball and nitric acid is all you need to make smokeless gunpowder (as opposed to black gunpowder). Nitric acid can be made from the 78% nitrogen that is in the air and a Jacobs ladder sparking device. The drug store has plenty of boxes of cotton balls. As for the primers that contain the high explosive called fumaric of mercury, that is extremely dangerous stuff. You are very likely to lose your fingers trying to make that compound.
Great info
Mercury based primers haven't been used since the '50's. Modern primers contain zero mercury. There are several CZcams channels dedicated to reloading primers themselves, and web sites, too. It is very easy (and relatively safe) to reload primers; the common primary primer compound doesn't even become shock sensitive until AFTER it is placed in the primer cup. A 50/50 mix of alcohol/water is dropped onto the primer compound after it is placed/packed into the primer cup. This causes the compound to undergo a chemical reaction that, when dry, causes the priming compound to become shock sensitive. For those that are fed up with commercial primer pricing and availability, reloading primers is extremely cost effective, and relatively easy to do. Edit: Start here: www.youtube.com/@helpmenowmark
@@floorpizza8074 What is the explosive used in primers today? I am an ancient man.
@@JfHbilling I'm quite certain that if I list the ingredients, I'll get banned from CZcams. But if you'll click on the link in my previous comment, you'll find that there are many different primer compounds in use today, with one called EPH 20 being the most popular. It is easily made, and very safe to use.
Wanted some blue dot. 56 bucks for 1 pound. Thats just freaking crazy.
It comes down to this. We are fighting gun bans and the anti gun lobby is not winning. So they move to ammunition , gun powder. They try to make it hard to get , a weapon does you no good without ammunition. These corporations can make all the money they need selling to just Governments
I agree.
Hi, just found your video and it's informative. What number wad are you using on the Fed top gun to get a good crimp? Thank's for your time.
Prayoritize?
I paid 80 dollars for 1lb of powder
Either way, this is their way of taking our guns. Fuck this government. We need everything brought back here screw other countries we have our own issues
I haven't sent much in the way of powder shortages here in So FL..I've been buying powder over the past few months..an lb or two at a time..wnd for the calibers I currently load ..or may plan on loading..and sometimes 2 lbs of a certain powder at a time..think Unique and Bullseye...most of my powders are universal..used fir multiple calibers ..gotta remember that we've been giving/selling all if our 'surplus' ammo to the Ukraine and Israel and now need to manufacture NEW inventory
Whats going on is we are being screwed No shortage of greed
Guess that hoarding over 40 yrs wasn't such a bad idea.
You know we have had multiple periods of shortages over the years and if you have experienced even one of these shortages and find yourself short today it is your fault. I learned in my first shortage that if I did not want to experience shortages again I would have to prepare for future shortages.
Local gun shop has large rifle primers. $150/1000. Nope for me
Pre covid I was a small commercial reloader. Primers $25/1000 powder cheap and plentiful, I had a very good business. I now just reload small batches of custom ammo for my long time customers, I can't compete with the current pricing on factory ball ammo due to the high cost of components.
Rl line from Australia ? What’s up w that ?
Great video. I mainly use golden rods, Plug n play, no memory involved. My neighbor uses a 40 watt incandescent light bulb turned on all the time that seems to work pretty well. I think over drying may cause wood stocks to possibly shrink slightly ? Question , what about leaving the "plug in" silica gel modules plugged in inside of your safe? thanks again for the info.
