Soccer Pre-Game Warm-Up - Thoughts Behind It

I feel many people just construct the pre-game warm-up based on what they see others doing and do not question the "why" behind it. In this video, I give you a couple insights into my thinking. For me, the #1 objective is "Joy & Energy" - I am not trying to teach anything before the game. That time has gone.

There were 2 scenarios that threatened the high back line. 1. At 0:13 they used hold play with a forward. They weren’t able to penetrate but it did move the high line back and create more space. 2. At 0:44 they used combination play on the outside to get in on goal. The winger came down and inside and pulled the defending full back with him and a quick 1-2 and he was in behind dribbling at goal. A high back line with fast, smart and organized defenders and a goalie that plays off their line is difficult to beat. Through balls and balls over the top will get eaten up. It requires you to be able to play through their press in your own half and then get get numbers up on their outside defenders. Overlaps and combination play in 2v1 or 3v2 scenarios will get you behind the back line. Or you need forwards with good hold up play so that runs can be made off of that. This threatens the back line and makes them move back to track those runs which allows you to progress the ball.

I can't tell if you're serious. You know a defender can't be within 10 yards of the corner kick taker. and yes a counter attack would crush that zone. I see why YOU don't like the zone. Look up Pep's zone system. That's what I use.

Marcus thanks for the great exercise we’re having serious spacing issues in general and or offensive plays generally fall apart. My question is this, the defenders start at the same time and from the same side of the field as the attacking players in the scenario? That’s what it looks like in the diagram, but it stands to reason that the defenders would be on the opposite end of the field with their keeper I’m just curious so I understand properly cheers

  • @hollandiavideochannel8247

I like your hybrid analogy. I think we also need to consider individual competence. For example, in the old German team, the Sweeper could play a 60-yard ball, AND make an aggressive forward run, because one, the ball is played with the correct spin AND the receiver has the technical ability to bring it down. So I think it's fair to say that the choice to go direct or to build up is influenced by your personnel.

For the first question, if you are playing fifa ofc C is the prime option. But you might not have that kind of view when you play a game irl unless you are Modric, Iniesta, etc. As a mediocre player, I usually choose D and wait the winger’s reaction. If the winger has problem dribbling further, I’d stay there and receive his ball to organize another attack, or I can run inward to play a 2v1 to push the ball to the front flank. If the winger managed to dribble further or make a clever pass to the striker, I ll just follow the squad and move forward.

#3 Gk to rw is wrong. Ball has to travel 55 yards + which gives the lb and lcm time to front to back along with the lcb covering behind. The correct pass is assuming your gk can pass a ball is to your rb. reds left wing steps to ball which will force blues rm to drop for a better angle but still a 2v1 which will bring reds lcm out of position for blues right dcm to be open. Either reds cb or lb steps and you play whoever steps man through. Edit reds Lw will be closer to blues b pass lane/ man because if he cheats to a b pass will be wide open. A simple check from b man will pull reds lw away from a pass.

3.5/6(i thought 4-3-3, which is almost the same to 4-2-3-1 the wingers just drop a little bit deeper, that's why it's a 0.5 point for that.
