ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Self-care is so dang hard to practice, especially on a consistent basis. Why? Some might say that we just need better time management tips. Others might say that if we understood how beneficial self-care is, we would prioritize it with less hesitation. But, if all moms needed was more tips, hacks, and information, we would all be practicing self-care consistently - but, we’re not. In fact, many of us are struggling to practice basic self-care, like showering and brushing our teeth, and I think it’s because beyond the tips, the hacks, and the information, many of us are triggered by self-care because it forces us to confront trauma and harmful beliefs that keep us stuck in cycles of self-neglect because it’s familiar and it aligns with what we believe about ourselves and what society believes about us as women and as mothers. In this episode, I unpack this with clear examples so that you can begin to do the work of confronting the experiences and beliefs that are holding you back from the love and care you deserve.

    I received TMS and it was just like having a helmet put on your head and getting attacked by a woodpecker. It was so painful. I would cry after that I had like a straw face.

    Hi, I just started TMS and I was researching more about it on CZcams and I came across your videos and after hearing how severe and how long your depression has lasted despite many different treatments, hearing you describe your sleep problems and describing how it feels like you been hit by a truck when you wake up in the morning, I finally for the first time in my life don't feel alone. Your story about severe depression, severe anxiety, sleep problems, ptsd, and dealing with perfectionism, all the while being a mother, is exactly identical to mine. I'm so thankful to have come across your videos. We can and will get through this. Thank you

    I really like the idea of a written chore chart between spouses, as it makes expectations clearer, creates accountability, and prevents us from having to keep discussing things. We definitely need to be cautious about the tone we use when speaking to our husbands to not come across as condescending or like we expect him to fail and so we’re creating a chart to stop him from doing so 😅 Everything is a collaborative effort towards a shared and loving goal. I can only imagine how hard it is for working mommas to bear most if not all of the household chores despite having to earn a living. A husband who helps out helps so much!!!

    TMS is free now. Fully funded. Id give it another try and perhaps try to time it during a time that is less emotional. Less demands and change going on in your life. Try getting on a sleep medication so that's not an issue. It's a simple fix. It's your responsibility to do your part. I applaud your efforts to get away from toxic medications. CP PTSD is serious and some meditation, yoga, herbal teas are helpful but laughable for anyone to think that's gonna do it. Sleep medication is essential if your having such nightmares. It's awesome that your being honest about your experience. I'm going to do this and document it as well. Your going through a lot and as you said you have to choose the right time to do it.     Great episode! I’m a newly SAHM and experienced so much trouble in my new role after I was laid-off last year. I always thought I had to find an outside way to cover me instead of just allocating and including my needs into the general household’s needs. It’s so affirming to hear your description of reallocating resources in order to make sure you are covered in the family too.

    Hey I am going through the. Act same thing. I don’t believe this working for me. I am on my 8th treatment. I believe I M dropping this.i feel😢more aggressive, sad, and depressed and many different thoughts than when I was in meds. Which wasn’t the greatest. Thank you, because I was looking for some video expressing this treatment. 😢

    Mia, I'm so grateful to find your podcast at the beginning of my motherhood. My little baby has 4 months now and I'm going through a very hard time dealing with my perfectionism. Listen to you really helps me to come back to reality and stop pushing myself too much. That made me a little more conscious about the importance of self-care and I started to have more relaxing time with my husband.     You're lucky it at least didn't harm you. I know of many people, myself included, where it made us worse. I have issues with mood dyregulation now, trouble with focusing and memory. Other issues too, but those are the main ones. It was two years ago and I'm still dealing with the fallout. I caution anyone against tms... it CAN harm you. The doctors won't admit it. If you do it and it hurts you, you'll be on your own. That's how it is for me now.

      True. The brain is a very delicate organ. You should not be messing with it. My mind and nervous system were messed up by anti depressant drugs. It destroyed my health. 7 years after I stopped taking them, and I am still feeling the effects.

    I am trying to get TMS from my insurance right now, I am hopeful. I may have to fly to the mainland from Hawaii to get the TMS paid for. Sorry to hear your treatment did not help very much. I get night terrors whenever I go up or down significantly on an antidepressant, I believe they trigger them. I am praying you get relief from the depression, anxiety, and insomnia. I understand the challenges especially having an antidepressant stop working and having to deal with insomnia. Oh my, prayers, prayers, and more prayers. My daughter and her family live in Portugal and are moving to Ericera at the end of June.

      btw needing sleep isn’t weak, not sleeping can cause multiple health issues along with worsen depression and anxiety symptoms. it’s best for the mum and baby if the mum is able to sleep so that she can properly care for the baby. only weak thing is your mindset.

    Sorry about that, a few years ago I read Dr. Daniel G. Amen books, and found out he does does scans, it is very expensive but it has helped a lot of people, you might want to check it out. Check your thyroid..............
