1966 Vw starter bushing install - one hammer
Here is how I got the bushing in. Might not be the best way to do it, but it is the perfect method if you’re lazy or do not have a lot of tools at your disposal.

I would encourage anyone whose vw sounds like this to check the starter and bushing I could not get the car to start. I had replaced the battery, tested grounds, replaced battery cables, made sure enough fuel was getting to the carb. When I bought a duralast starter from Autozone and replaced the bushing, the car was able to start for the first time in a very long time.
