It's normal at first. It's acclimating. If you water it more often, the flowers will drop but the leaves will become lush. If you balance watering, like let it dry out before watering again, you will trigger it to flower again. 😊

Probably you're watering them too much. Just water them only when the soil is dry. And provide them plenty of sunlight. They become vegetative if too much water and not enough sunlight. Hope that helps! 👍🏻

Wow! There could be a lot of factors though, maybe it's time to change the soil and do water it only when the soil is dry but not bone dry, so the roots can get established.

@@pacificgardener I'm going to do a soil change it's only thing I could think of cuz I try not to overwater it it has doubled in size in the last 3 years but still no roots what blows me it fell over so I put it back in the soil added a little water to the dry dry dirt

I thought that was the idea...let it dry out completely between waterings ! I've taken a special liking towards golden barrel cacti recently....so far I have 2 of them that I purchased from home Depot...their juvenile... probably 5" diameter... about 3,4" high. I've started taking up interest in them because I hear their having some problems in the wild, people are actually digging them up out in the deserts and selling them in like a black market? ...crazy huh??.... At any rate yeah any tips or tricks you could share about how to take care of these guy's would be appreciated 👍...I live in Phoenix AZ so yeah I'm just trying to do my part, however small that might be!

Obviously, you missed to read the title: How to repot or plant bougainvillea WITHOUT disturbing the roots. Bougainvilleas don't like their roots disturbed during planting or transplantation, they get too stressed .

Well guess what, you are in a wrong video! This video is not intended for bonsai. I potted a few Bougainvilleas years before I got these 2 and they all died because I disturbed the roots so much!! Experience is the best teacher for me!! So I'm just sharing my experience to everyone thru this video. God bless you!

Forever. They enjoy being a bit root bound and don't mind staying in their containers for a long time. As long as you bring them indoors if you get a freeze.

Yes trim it! It will not hurt the plant, in fact it will encourage to grow other branches.

@@CVenza Like removing the the thorns on each branch? Never heard of that before. If you're eager to remove all of those, that's up to you. It might just create a lot of openings for some pest to infect you plant. 👍🏻

@@pacificgardener; thank you for your response. I took off the thorns on one branch last year & it dried the branch up. I am not sure what caused the drying of the branch for sure but that was my experience.

I left my empty stems and branches and new leaves all came back! I think they just go through periods of losing their leaves, maybe after winter. I'm not an expert though. I didn't cut my branches off but it's totally green again.

When the plant is young, you should have train it to grow upwards. You can do that by pruning the branches that leans sideways and downwards. Leaving only upright branches. It's better to train young Hibiscus than a mature one. 👍🏻

Mine is a mature one that has grown to about 6-7 feet with branches every which way. Can I trim it like this, too? If you're still here.

It really depends on where you live like your climate, weather and season. Is it still warm where you live and still summer? I would water them twice a week. Then when it gets cold a little bit or a bit rainy, maybe once a week. Do this until the bougainvilleas gets established on the ground. And remember, water at the base not the leaves!

@@peacerose8024 But also check the soil if it is dry. If it's still wet, maybe you can do watering once a week. Just buy "soil moisture meter" and dip it in before you are due for watering. I usually do that to double check so we get to avoid root rot especially if your soil doesn't drain that much. Also take a note, if your bougainvillea receives too much water, it will become leafy. But if you've got the right watering condition, like letting the soil dry first before watering, you will get the best blooms! And Yeah, soap insecticide will do as well. At first, yes. I used Miracle Gro cactus mix alone. Because I thought without perlite and the fact that I'm living here in the desert doesn't require me to water them too often especially every summer were temps are above 110 degrees for weeks. But, that wasn't effective. I'm still watering these two every week when it is scorching hot here! So this spring, I changed the soil for these 2 Golden Barrels, still MG cactus mix and I added a little perlite. 1 scoop of Perlite per 4 scoops of Cactus mix. 💛

Hi there! What is the description of your ball cactus? There are several plant identifying apps that you can download were you can take a picture of you cactus and it will show up what plant do you really have. But sometimes they're not reliable and suggests different plant names which are clearly incorrect. If ever, try to search for Barrel Cactus online and select Ferocactus Plant Info from gardeningknowhow. Also, search for 14 Barrel Cacti Types from growing vale website, they have descriptions for different types of ball-type cactuses that can really help you identify what you have. 😊

Hi there! That's good that you checked and rescued your Golden Barrel Cactus. Once the cactus was transferred to a new dry soil, you can water it after 1 week. And then, water your cactus according to the location, climate and/or season you have. For me, here in Southwest US which is a desert region, I water these Golden Barrels weekly on summer season, then every 2 weeks for the rest of the seasons. They stayed outdoors all the time on bright indirect sun. Just make sure your new potting soil drains water quickly, to avoid root rot. 👍🏻
