#346 Exploring BUTE | Cycling & Camping With 'Red Man Walking' | Lightwave Sigma S10 |
#wildcamping #bikepacking
A flying visit to the Isle of Bute on an e-bike packing wild camp accompanied at first by my brother Richard and then on to camp with 'RMW' Gordon ( Red Man Walking ) channel. Good craic but very little time to film on this 24 hour micro adventure. The Duotts C29 ebike made the whole thing a breeze though.

is this where they filmed Jurassic park?
You're down my neck of the woods, it's a beautiful spot there in Dunure. Great video, I'm looking at tents...narrowing things down, there's so many to choose from!
Really appreciate your thorough and honest review. I'm going to buy one for bikepacking!
Just came back to your older vids to check this one out
might have a look at this Andrew for this coming winter
Very easy for compare gas and electricity prices online
Would you please let me know if the extra guyline points are reinforced matieral and stitching ? And can you close the peak vents completely ...to stop horizontal rain ? Thankyou very much 😊 Very good vid ...
Yes they are ( on both questions ) A
Thanku very much.😊
how would.you go about modding the rear vent mate has i got that tent and i am.not sure how to go about doing it any help much appreciated
Hi. I am a mountaineer from Australia. The Macpac Olympus wavers around because it has flexibility snd not super rigid.which reduces poles breaking. This is a strength of tunnel tents. Geodesic rigidity has less flexibility. North Face are great products but tinker with products whereas the Olympus has been around for a long time just refined. Macpac has a very good warranty policy and their products with spares ie. pegs and poles and will perform factory repairs. Good review and and honest appraisal.
Thanks for the video. I had the privilege of using one once and I liked the tent. The model I slept in was a Mountain Elite (?) that had the screens. I haven't seen on since. I'd buy one if RAB was produce it again. Sometimes I climb and hunt in Alaska and when approaching the mountain, the mosquitoes will carry you away. Really need the screens. Another drawback is that there is no vestibule. I understand that this is meant to used on a ledge, therefore narrow, one entrance, and the tie downs, but the screens and the vestibule would really make this tent.
I was cheated on AliExpress, I got cheap fake products and have applied for a return.
Hello Andrew. I'm glad you found your cycling helmet. Don't take chances without a cycling helmet. I had a serious cycling accident a couple of years ago. I would not be alive now if I wouldn't of been wearing a cycling helmet.
Watched these F10 Nexus videos a good few times now Andrew…the reason I bought one. I was toying about replacing it with the Radon 2 with a bit more room but maybe wait til next year and get that as a spring/ summer option…definitely a soft spot for the Nexus so holding onto it. Have a safe and enjoyable trip to Mont Blanc area. We stopped in Sallanches for the night in 2019 on the way back from our road trip from Dumbarton to Venice and back…dying to do it again sometime. 🙏🏻🤞🏻 Best regards. Paul
I was torn, but after your review, I'm am going to purchase one. Thanks 🌞
There seams to be a glut of these ebikes on youtube lately and a lot of hullaballoo to go with them(yours is one of the more honest-down to earth reviews).......I bought one of these 4yrs ago and did a review, its basically a rip-off of the one I purchased from Ali-express (SMLRO C6) its identical. It cost me £600 (although I did pay £86 for ''fast-shipping'') there was an alternative free shipping but it took 4-6 weeks. I will add that I purchased mine during the 1st lockdown so without the chinese taking advantage of the clamour for outdoor gear by the likes of the UK the bike would have been about £500........in essence its not the huge bargain people now think it is............Just thought you might like to know this Andrew.........A nice watchable review though mate..........cheers.............Stu...👍
I just returned from the Easter Sierras. Great light weight backpacking tent for petite people. 'm small at 5'1" it was fine in length and very light weight for a backpacking trip. The wind blew the tent so I secured it to nearby trees on both sides but it was still too cold at 45 degrees temperature with 12 mph wind gusts over night so we cancelled our second night. I took extra cord for extra guy lines. When it rained the tent was dry inside but if you touched the ceiling it would start to leak. I only used a light weight poncho for the ground cloth and it was fine. I did have a mattress with R5 rating. Thanks for sharing.
This is where I camped for my Duke of Edinburgh!
Aha, I remember you couldn't work out where you ended up , blast from the past x
I use the 2p plenty room for very little weight
Nice one, I was looking at buying a exped 7 ultra but, think I'll give one of these a try, they look good...cheers
Looks good and roomy
Do youknow if the sizes on there website is on point? Is there insulation also on the side?
I don't know to be honest. Re insulation you can see it ends before the edge. But strangely both the lower R rating one and my flextail R05 ( which only seems to have it in the centre 3 of 5 baffles) are the same but I've never felt any cold creep
What's the weight on this Andrew?
It's 480 grams in that size , there's a link to more detail in the description too.
interesting! I've had three with no leaks whatsoever?
Thank you, Andrew, for pointing out that minor issue. Future owners should be aware before taking it out in the wild. Certainly not a deal breaker. The Durston design is very well thought out.
unless you can get a really good pitch, I find it hard to keep one of the corners from touching the inner. You just have to make some adjustments if you think you are in for bad weather.
Well spotted Andrew.
A perfect storm ...Omphhh 👍
Hello again, i have now bought the tent but haven't used it yet, and have only just found out how low the water column is. Is the tent waterproof?
Top man Andrew.... Cracking spot go camp, I remember it well from my meanderings around Bute. I've always fancied a camp near the lighthouse ... The mat sounds quite excellent... Just in time for winter .. Hope to catch up with you again soon pal.. Jim
We're thinking a wee night on Arran if you fancy a threesome Jim 🫣
@@AndrewParkOutdoors aye.. definitely - when? 😎
Hi Andrew. I have my X-Mid 1p solid setup and has been for 3 days now up in Glen affric area with relentless rain. Touchwood no leakage as yet, but will keep an eye on the key areas that just may leak.. 😁🏕
Nice. Knew where you were going as soon as you left Kilchattan Bay as I used to anchor my yacht there a lot. Lovely spot
Hope yer promise with the wife went well 😂✌️
😂 I just realised how that could be misconstrued!
Was an absolute pleasure to meet you Andrew. I look forward to future collaborations. All the best. G ♥️ 🏴
Great wee camping spot.
A beautiful location, are you able to share the part of the Ayrshire coastal way this is on please? P.s just followed you as i follow G - redman walking and i was wild camping on bute last weekend too, round at scaplsie bay. Im an outdoor enthusiast too. Just spent most of today bingeing your videos 😅
Thanks for watching 🙏 Yes that's just inside the south perimeter of culzean country park. Can be busy till late evening so it's one to nip into late and leave early ! Cheers A
@@AndrewParkOutdoors thanks, I've found it on OS Maps 😊
Good video, cheers!
Have watched this review quite a few times... I'm very drawn to this tent bar for one thing.. I can't believe that Nordisk haven't put a two way zip on the front door... This would be a deal breaker for me... Two way zips on the outer door should be a definite on all tents... Almost the perfect tent for me, but that zip.... agggggrrrrrr...
Appreciate you were using this on private land in this video but it seems to be another 'ebike' that's illegal to use on uk roads, cycle paths and other public places? Why not promote something that complies with UK and European regulations?
This bike does comply with UK laws. Out of the box it is set to 15.5 miles per hour and it does not come pre-installed with the twist grip accelerator. You can unlock the restrictions and install the twist grip if you wish.
@@ricco123tubeit’s not legal in any way shape or form. Anything over 250w is for private use only Which is ridiculous.
🚴♀️🚴♀️👍👍👌
You always get the bike I'm getting just before me 😂 watching for my own personal info 😂
I've got a 1P solid for solo camps and a 2P for when the wife comes with me. Had them both for about 18 months and enjoyed them in all sorts of weather. I did wreck the original flysheet of the 1P (well I say wrecked, it works fine but the mould stains look awful!) 50yrs of camping experience and I stored a tent still damp over winter! Far to embarrassed to take that out so I bought a new one, some of us have more money than sense. I've only used the 2P once solo and found it far too big, just didn't need that space inside as well as the vestibules. I don't find the 1P claustrophobic, in fact I like the "cosyness" of it. It can be fiddly to pitch on uneven ground but I got quite relaxed about it once I realised it doesn't need to be "perfectly pitched" to work (unless there are high winds). One thing that annoys me is the magnetic flysheet door thingy - just doesn't work in any decent wind and I think it needs another one lower down. Also I have the older inner with the bungy tie outs for the doors - which I find a bit hit and miss - too loose and they come undone, too tight and you can't untie them. Other than that I find it hard to fault.
I saw this tent is made of pertex shield air fabric(i got a jacket from it), is this what they use currently or it s the event? Very interesting shelter, one must feel very safe inside. If it had some sort of porch for boots etc,it would be incredible shelter i bet..
It used to be eVent but it had fire compliance issues in the states I believe so they changed to pertex etc. I suspect the pertex won't breathe as well but never tried the newer models 🤔
Ye to be convinced on any tent that pitched inner first but we'll see how you get on with it
The tent looks cramped, is there room for a backpack somewhere? Because if it touches the tent wall and it rains, will it rain through or?
I cant recall if i put my pack in the porch or inside, i think inside to my side :-)
Hello, one question, do you know the water column of the tent? Floor and roof
I cant recall but Lightwave HH's are usually designed for the Euro market so tend to be higher than US tents.
how does this compare to the vango f1o nexus i like both and im at odds which one to get
Nexus every time unless it's purely about the weight for you. A
