This is so damn good and with humor! bookmarked.
You have reduced the chance of me using hg by 80%.
5 years passed and people still use notebooks in research and release buggy, unreadable and unusable code which really kills the point of releasing the code for reproducibility.
She sounds very hot on the sql lessons on khan academy.
I'm actually looking at the first set (technically, the second) of parentheses (a b) as being like cupping your hands to see inside the window to a factory and the second set of parentheses (+ a b) represents the actual machinery inside of the factory.
I am shocked and saddened to read the news that this excellent dude is no longer alive... R.I.P Buddy!
WOW! at exactly the time that you were doing that I was in Germany either doing 100 MPH in a 10 tonner or tearing up old tarmac or laying new... by September 2008 I had landed back in the UK ...by the new year I had my computer systems back up and running (I had my hard disks and some data DVD's that had just travelled about 10,000 miles from Crete via Germany > Holland > Germany > Holland > Germany > Spain > Holland > Germany > England...)...
Thank you sir
Extremely useful
This talk is excellent and it is a reminder of what the world was like before "alternative facts"

Welp, Facebook niches were universities and later on high schools, leaving aside it started as a ranking college female students (based on their looks),that was its niche, academia, hence posting with your real name. Google+ was a bit similar. I did move from Hi5 to Facebook to keep in touch with gaming friends, colleagues, and professors although after Hi5 I didn't want to have anything with social media, the primary reason I still made an account was to comunicate with colleagues. Even refused to be added in Uni groups, were too many things on my head... anyway CZcams was and still is a lousy platform, as any platform that started as a dating website, it ends up not only being used as a human trafficking website. Do you comprehend why dating websites end up as human trafficking websites? It ends up as being used for human trafficking because the real intentions behind most of the dating websites/services it's to look up for slaves, not for soul mates. Harsh truth, yes. Never forgetty the evil intentions behind a "creation". Because when you code for building a murdering machine, it's hard to reprogram it. When I did my 1st website, the intention was simple and the theme. Was an website that presented a part of my native country history, which was needed for me to pass an exam. So I know a thing or two about intentions in cyber realm. Neadless to add I was among the few in my class that didn't bought their project and prested as their own, I am mentioning this as a reference to "fake it until you make it", which in the end will show that some fake it so hard that when they have to prove their proof of work, they fail miserably. You cannot separate art from the artist. So that's that.

"Identity is not real names" hit me really powefully. It debunks this automatic assumption that we are our truest selves only in "real life" and that the virtual is simply some silly unreality. Instead, it declares them at least equal. And in fact there's signs that the virtual has already superseded "real life."

This is BULLSHIT. Obv a psy op. Why not let Captain Mark Richards tell his whole story? Afraid of the turth anyone?
I'm still waiting for BB11 (in 2024) 🙂
What I took from this talk is: notebooks are an interesting tool and they have their use cases, but quite often, people to beyond those use cases and use notebooks where another tool or workflow would make more sense. Kinda the "if all you have is a hammer" approach. I'm currently writing something that loads quite a lot of geospatial data and then does some things with it. I have never used geospatial data before. For me it's useful to be able to keep the data in memory so I can simply rerun the last step to see what happens, while keeping a record of the stuff I did earlier, while being able to create visualizations inline. But I'm very cognizant of the fact that this is causing me to write worse code than I could, because I feel a lot of friction to go back up and edit stuff or move stuff around. Though that could also be my lack of experience talking.
I'm Back! Been a while and I need a refresher course. I once knew how to chur Warhol Art out.

"The number of props you have the greater the chances something is going to go wrong". Early insight into React.js.
Inspirational
After ~7 minutes Fowler defines software architecture as "the important stuff" and then goes ahead to "argue" why should we care about "software architecture". This clip is a good exercise for students studying logical fallacies 🤣
this is, literally, the best video on CZcams.
From what I observed, people who started off coding with compiled languages don't like notebooks and in many cases Python in general. They try to bring their compiled language style programming to Python and fail to utilize the "liveness" of using an interpreted language. They feel like they need a full fledged bloated IDE to debug an interpreted language like Python. But that's false. IPython is like a more flexible and live version of a debugger. Many people probably don't even know how easily you can add breakpoint() to any point in your Python code and start an interactive debugger. Many of the reasons that I like Jupyter are probably unknown to these developers. Everything in Python is an object and that means you can dig the guts of almost any initialized object to see what it does and there's no better environment to do this than Jupyter. You also get to skip the hideous amount of abstraction that some libraries come with that makes understanding the code by reading the codebase alone unbearable since the object is already initialized and all the abstracted methods have been resolved to their actual implementation. All you need to do is add a ? after the function to see which exact method it is calling, and another ? to see the whole source code. A bloated IDE is just a more handicapped version of doing the same thing except you hit dead ends frequently because too bad the method has been abstracted and only determined at runtime, so you have no way of knowing which exact definition of the method the object is calling until you run the program.
Somewhere out there, in the vast nothingness of space. Somewhere far away, in space, and time. Someone is sampling this Gentle Introduction for their next magnum opus of ambient electronica.
