Plein Air Painters Chicago (PAPC) is affiliated with the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts, 1012 N. Dearborn, Chicago, IL. We offer artists opportunities to paint landscapes and cityscapes onsite, with group critiques afterwards. All levels are welcome. Camaraderie is enjoyed by our members, as we will often meet up for lunch after our paint outs. We promote Plein Air education with our annual "I Heart Plein Air" events and we often have guest artists demonstrating their painting techniques for the first hour of a paint out. In addition, we offer special group events and exhibits that help bring visibility & sales to our artists and their paintings.

I’m a Novice’s novice - the Tilly part cracked me up- what a relief- lol
Wow....I totaly understood the headspace Aimee Erickson gets into..I find myself there often..The difference however is she derives a vibrating power from it..and I ismply go rigidly immobile except for my thoughts! My thoughts keep developing and devising a plan..BUT..I still stare at that paper in front of me. I am going to incorporate my thoughts of decision in paint...soon! I love her work! Brilliant indeed!

A great book title “Starving to Successful”. It completely reverses the common and frequently used phrase in the art world - “the starving artist”. There is a lot to take in for most artists to see and turn their creativity into a business. A while ago, there was a concern about the future of art galleries in relation to the power of online “everything” including selling art. I wonder if that is still the case today. Is the online world becoming a little too saturated? Thanks for a great video.

I saw that TW. Lawson painting at the Denver Art Museum several years ago...It was extraordinary!!!
several of Scotts examples of beautiful strong compositions were of SNOW SCENES..!! I think that's what has always attracted me to painting snow!! strong simple designs.!

FLAT light is boring....but I think I could paint that meandering stream photo by making strong shadows from those pine trees!!

I agree...I think many outdoor painters that I paint with here in reno, NV also pick subjects that don't have a lot of strong compositional elements.!!
I was trying to start a funding for a gift certificate at Blick's for our great, and wonderful, Mary Longe, for all the things she does to enrich our lives. The Go Fund Me, I see is more for charities, so I'll bet they won't accept my request. And since we have a pandemic, it's next to impossible to round people up for this. Any ideas, anyone? If everyone put in $20, she could stock up on quite a few art supplies. Any better ideas?

I'm an oil painter but I've seen many watercolors framed without glass..They are sealed with something that needs no glass framing..!!
jean Stern saying ethat very plein air painting should be framed in gold now sounds outdated!!...how art "fashion' frames change every 5 years!!.....now all the CA impressionist pleinair painters are framing their work in black with a small amount of gold trim accents.!! or using floating frames.!!
