    The Push 3 is awesome as a controller. I don't use the standalone very much at all. Preamps are pretty weak as an interface sadly. You hardly need to touch the mouse when you get the hang of it.

  • @GenocidePanda
    @GenocidePanda Před 2 měsíci

    very good talk. a genre like hip hop is all about texture; certain sampling techniques like sampling something faster then slowing it down for grit, or layering and actively digging for different instruments in songs to chop apart. applies to any electronic music genre i suppose. it’s harder to achieve the sonics we’re after in the box without extra processing where as in the past texture was a result of the medium

    • @EscherNadeau
      @EscherNadeau Před 2 měsíci

      I agree, even though I don’t listen to hip hop much. It has great textures. Back then, a lot of tech like tape decks, etc, gave us natural grit, and that’s why I like using vintage emulators and a plugin called Chow Tape to emulate that texture. It’s not perfect, but it works great. I’m a huge fan of experimental electronic music, with songs that have crazy tunes and textures. Recently, I've loved 'Bonesaw - Scruze and Kippo Remix' because it’s so different from anything I've heard with its texture.

    • @EscherNadeau
      @EscherNadeau Před 2 měsíci

      @@GenocidePanda I think that sampling is both the easiest and hardest way to add texture because 1 there is lots of amazing things out there but 2 you gotta find the ones that work.

  • @AntiPattern123
    @AntiPattern123 Před 2 měsíci

    Nice Vid. I keep the kick and snare on separate tracks. Since Live 12 and the new generators, I tend to program percussion and Hi Hats in a drum rack. The pros are the mentioned pattern generator to get different grooves easily. Different velocities are far easier to adjust, and the groove pool is applicable. Your method is good to see the relations between the single elements, since the waveform is visible. It is also easier to freeze and flatten single elements without soloing and resampling.

    • @EscherNadeau
      @EscherNadeau Před 2 měsíci

      I’m glad you enjoyed the vid, i’ve heard really good things about Ableton 12, but I haven’t yet bitten the bullet but it seems like pattern generation is pretty powerful and it makes sense to use that with percussion as that is one of the things that you can add the most variety without it being too crazy especially with like ghost notes, and like triple high hats, maybe I gotta buy the upgrade from 11 suit to 12. Do you recommend 12 and did you ever have 11.

    • @AntiPattern123
      @AntiPattern123 Před 2 měsíci

      @@EscherNadeau Oh...yeah. I forgot. With 12 there is also the benefit of the similar sound swap function. In a drum rack, you can switch the complete kit with one click. Kicks are replaced by similar kicks, snares with snares. I used XO from XLN since then. It is now obsolete.

    • @EscherNadeau
      @EscherNadeau Před 2 měsíci

      @@AntiPattern123 that’s so sick and I was also an XO person now I kinda just search and edit witch is definitely slower but I don’t need to render out each drum sound so it’s easier in some ways with drag and drop and it being native.
