Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band
United Kingdom
Registrace 27. 10. 2016
Pioneering English traditional folk powerhouse, Eliza Carthy, first assembled the Wayward Band in 2013 in order to explore and celebrate her long and varied career in folk music; 'the last truly underground music scene'. To do this Eliza put together a team of hugely talented people from across the UK, and set out on the road to promote her ‘Best Of’ compilation, Wayward Daughter (Topic Records), which coincided with a biography of the same name. Since then the band has become a festival favourite, and Eliza has been awarded the MBE for services to folk music. Eliza and the Wayward Band loved playing together so much it seemed natural and inevitable, as well as characteristically ambitious, that this 12-piece would set about recording an album. Early in 2016 they did just that. ‘Big Machine’ is the result and the renowned Real World and Rockfield Studios are where it all happened. ‘Big Machine’, produced by Jim Sutherland, will be released on 3rd February 2017.

Beautiful!!!
I think Big Machine is still my favourite. So pleased to have lived long enough to hear proper folk evolve like this.
😊 Fabulous.
Good music but could do with a better vocalist , wails rather than sings.good tune though.
Really good. First hearing!
The best Bond theme ever! (But sadly not one)
Amazing video. I am used to hearing Eliza singing traditional and I must say that I prefer that. But this is so different and dramatic. I always look forward to seeing where Eliza is going musically.
Did you credit Rory McLeod? This is his song
So many people I love up on that stage.
Great cover of one of my fave Rory McLeod songs.
Mad as a bag of cats!
I wish that the wars are all gone.....
Was that a mummer's play? Kinda funny ad for a tour.
Incredible song. Shoestring budget video!
Epic, so sad that this, our living history is so under appreciated, and in danger of being done in by the PC and cancel culture.
So glad you like it! I’m not sure what you mean by in danger of being cancelled, though? What’s not PC about the traditional music of working people?
Absolutely wonderful! Thank you for what you do!
Love it
I liked that. Thanks.
I met you when in Los Angeles. Warner bro’s liner.🟤📿🗽
Always my favorite! Thank you and God bless...Pay up, pay up...🕊🌬❤️👏🏽🌟🗽
Ace.
Adore this song. Adoration is so easy...
Pure genius, what music can be. I made a wish upon a star that somewhere true GREAT music was out there and lo this. Please people tune in before its too late.
This made me so sad....
Heartbreakingly gorgeous.
Hearing this in RNCM at Christmas was too much. Slowly stripping everything away, then alone with all the grief, then slowly not being alone with any of it. Too much in the best sense; leaving a space that wasn’t there before. It sounded far less Glass/Reich. I’d love to know if it evolved on tour or if this mix just highlights the rhythm?
It did evolve on tour yes. The live version of everyone singing was very, very loving and moving. I miss this glorious bunch. ❤️
Oh yeah.
I LLLovvvve this!!
I love both of you guys together!
Aint no mountain high enough...fandanadobbie...:)
WOW!! Stunning.
I would like Rory McLeod to be ackowledged as the author of this song: it features on his 1986 album "Kicking the Sawdust". You could do worse than to check him out!
Absolutely brilliant ! Love the song, love the way Eliza sings it, love the musicians and love the video
what's Teddy Thompson doing here - is he part of the Wayward band or just a guest singer?
Duet
Saw this live last night pure magic !!
Per me, un'assoluta rivelazione!! Superba!
Wow! Who needs a band if you can play all that! ;) Sounds great!
The next generation! :-)
God, Eliza is so damn gorgeous!
I'll be looking to see these live for sure.
Absolutely beautiful Eliza. Listening to this on a loop.
Great song, like the village hall video - reminds me of ours. Come and play in Dilwyn!
So funny ! exactly like our village hall!
SOOOOO Good. I love it, what a fab video for a beautiful song
FANTASTICA!!!!!
If that "blood" was blue, it would propably look more realistic. Wonderful song - should be the title track for the next James Bond -movie.
thats a brilliant suggestion
If this isn't a radio hit, it's a travesty. What a hook! Great song, fantastic intensity, wonderful singing, arrangement and musicianship - and even better than the version on Dreams of Breathing Underwater. The album is more exciting than I thought it would be and this is just one of the highlights. Great stuff. And good to see Teddy T, he was really good in Liverpool recently.

I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of this band but I love this song!
Eliza has the best voice ever and she's a demon fiddler to boot
Yes, agree and have now bought the album! brilliant!
Bloody brilliant! The whole album is fantastic. I can't tell you the amount of times I've bashed my head on my cooker hood while leaping around the kitchen while listening to this amazing album (I'm blind, so dancing is always a bit risky) Thanks for blowing a gale of fresh air into the current folk scene.
I have a crazy image in my head of you doing this; you are mad!! (i mean this in a nice way!)
Well, all the banging my head while dancing has not helped my sanity. ;)
Excuse me, but if you are blind then how are you able to write and read?
Easy, I have a screen reader on my computer and I can touch type
Oh I love this comment!
great song!!! heard you guys on Mr Radcliffs show. awesome
Brilliant cannot wait for the Album to arrive
