Overconfident opponent who has never been to our house, possibly inclement weather, early start (11AM essentially for TX), clutch field goal kicker, AND a defense unlike any TX has seen in the last 2 years (incl Alabama last year) all adds up to a signature Michigan victory for this new team.

From what I did see of Texas play they are fast and all over the place, but you really need to pressure ewers to keep him more off balance. It is not going to be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. It could go any way. Let's see how it goes ?

  • @jamescrawford9123

I think you’re downplaying the Texas o-line vastly. Kelvin Banks is arguably the best tackle in college and the rest are nfl talent as well. So it’s not going to be a done deal for Michigans d-line. Also you’re going to be really surprised by how deep the wr group is. You forget about Ryan Wingo, Silas Bolden and Johntay Cook. Crazy fast depth. But other than that your assessments are pretty good. D line for Texas is a little better than you’d think as well. Oh and you should look into the guys covering Colston Loveland. That’s gonna be a lot of fun. The Texas defense is really solid. It’ll be a fun game.

Agree that the coaches treated this as multiple games - the first half was treated more like a scrimmage. I think that’s why you saw the weird substitution patterns. And really, that makes sense. Coaches wanted to see how the players performed in a real game during significant snaps. Gotta remember that not only are there whole new starters but the coaches are all new, whether it be coaches that weren’t here last year or coaches switching positions. Isn’t Bellamy the only constant? Just seemed clear to me that the coaches were experimenting. The second half, felt like game #2. Coaches got to see how the players performed and the rotation seemed to stabilize and thus the offense looked better. And one thing that made me really encouraged is that David Warren has a real nice connection with Loveland. That is huge. I was frustrated as much as anyone else but once you digest everything, things made more sense to me.

After having a day to mull this game over I'm certain the odd rotations were just being used as an opportunity to evaluate the guys Sherrone needed confirmation about and I whole heartedly believe that Sherrone was keeping what he wanted to do against TX in the vault. I have confidence that Warren will be a good game manager going forward but I'm definitely concerned about the WR position. Two TE sets may help us out in that regard.

They didn't know that he was going to run last year? Orji is an athelete who is learning to pass, and he's better than last year. I have no idea who this guest thinks he is or where he was, but he was a painful slappy. First: we didn’t find our running game. Our line is terrible and got no push. Our backs could make anything happen on their own. We caught a few very lucky breaks in the defensive playcalling in Q4 and we were able to finally find the endzone on the ground. We looked terrible. “We’re gonna be fine there.” What dispensary did he visit prior to this discussion? If you can’t find any running room for your RB until Q4 against that poor of an opponent, you’re run game is in deep trouble. Only reason our O-line “moved some people” is the same reason big time teams beat up against cupcakes: conditioning. We couldn’t move a fly until our conditioning outpaced theirs late in the game. That won’t happen against even moderate teams. Rotating our DB’s showcased that we have a lot of depth in the secondary? He clearly wasn’t watching the same game. Our secondary was terrible anytime we rotated - heck we caught some lucky breaks even with our big dogs out there. We have no depth in the secondary. None with any real confidence. “Used our QBs effectively?” You’re hopeless. No, we didn’t use our QBs effectively. If you have 2 QBs you don’t have any QB. It disrupts timing. It disrupts rhythm. It adds complication to an offensive line who has no clue what they’re doing. Any regular rotation is stupid. Warren has no upside. If you have a QB that cannot throw the ball downfield (as he clearly can’t) you have a QB who will take you nowhere. “But he hit his receivers in stride in the intermediate passing game.” No he didn’t. He was all over the place and he left his WR out to dry on the regular. But if the best thing you can say is that he completed passes that most in the stands could, you’re not saying anything. The truth is, a QB main job is to keep the ball moving and to make the players around him better. Only 1 QB did that last night. Every time Orji was in the ball game, Michigan was able to move the ball. HE was the catalyst for thr run game. You want Michigan to continue having a great ground game, Orji needs to be your starter. Even if his throws aren’t as great, everybody can throw a 10 yard pass. And unlike Warren, Orji can launch the ball. Sherrone made the absolute wrong call with his QBs: pick the one that gives you the best chance to win - and that guy is the only offensive player last night that made things happen by himself. This was a terrible game last night.

They won 30-10 despite approaching the game like it was an exhibition or preseason game. It was like a dress rehearsal. They'll iron out some wrinkles and put up a good fight against Texas, win or lose. But the real growth will come during their next few games after Texas leading up to the Oregon game. That's where the rubber will meet the road. Regarding last night's game, I thought the game planning was Mid and Warren's decision-making less than stellar. You create openings and space for yourself later by going downfield...completing a pass or two of more than 20 yards. That opens up the run game and the short passing game. Warren never went downfield except for the one time when he said to himself, "Oh hell, I may as well go for broke." And he went broke. I was disappointed that they didn't do a LOT more play-action pass plays with Warren standing back there allowing receivers to do some work downfield. He consistently (and quickly) looked for the short outlet pass. That has to be improved substantially if they want any chance of beating the Big Boys this year. Warren has the arm and the accuracy, they say, but we didn't see it last night. The defense was good but not stout, but I attribute it more to the shuffling in and out of players throughout the game. As the season progresses and the best guys become evident, they will lock down most of the 2nd tier teams and hopefully the big boys as well. Mullings has won RB1. The Don just doesn't want to bust THROUGH the line. He looks for a gaping hole every time and this OL wasn't providing any of those last night. Mullings is the man. I still think 9-3 is the FLOOR. They just need to win ONE of the big three games (Texas, Oregon, OSU) to make the playoffs. I believe they'll do it.

Terrible? They won by 20 points over a legit team in Fresno State. I'd call it a scrimmage game that counts as a W.

Settle down, it’s one F’g game that introduced many new starters and coaches. They’ll be fine. Fresno State is no joke, they’re coached well and littered with former high 4 and 5 ⭐️’s. Thankfully I see two others who are reasonable with their comments. This team just needs more practice and game reps.

@@pianistdavidberriman A Fresno team that will finish 3rd in their conference. A Fresno team with a QB who couldn't hit open WRs. They are overrated by UM fans who are trying to justify looking like a pile of dogshit. UM has no Oline. UM has no identity on offense. The QB is mediocre. And will love coming back here this Saturday to watch you eat that poor fn excuse of "WeLl ItS dUh FiRsT gAmE DURRRRRRRR"! You won't repeat. And you'll be lucky to win 9 games. Sad that USC is already the better team in their first year. Lolol
