      @@brj4 Oh that's so cool!! It makes sense, seeing as all your old videos on the Latin Tutorial Channel are still high quality. I would also like to thank you a lot for helping me and my classmates learn Latin. Seriously, we put you in the ranks of Heimler's History and Organic Chemistry Tutor. You're always so thorough and clear and it helps a lot because we all kind of freak out before tests lol- Your videos actually helped me pass my finals with an A last year, and I'm always so grateful for that :) Ty for all you do!!! A fantastic video there, Thank you for this. One question, though-- at 4:03 you said "a vowel before another vowel is usually short, make sure it's not a diphthong" and then you proceeded to mark the 'e' in 'meis' as a short vowel, when 'ei' is a diphthong! Made me a bit confused there.

  • @dianeallen5803
    @dianeallen5803 Před rokem

    Isn't a syllable with a diphthong long by nature, not long by position? The slides would be more helpful if they included macrons. Last, I don't understand why the first syllable of mutatas must be long other than it has to be long in order to make a spondee. That seems like it's the tail wagging the dog, but if that's the case, it's fine with me. Thanks, Benjamin! I love your videos and have used them for years.

  • @nameaboveallnames1267

    Mr Johnson,For me the million dollar question is,can you encode secret messages into text using dactyl hexameters? The reason I ask is Paul used a dactyl when he wrote to Titus and this is it Κρῆτες ἀεὶ ψεῦσται κακὰ θηρία γαστέρες ἀργαί Which is translated Creatans are always liars evil beast gluttons lazy. From Homer the creatans were chosen for their swift ships and were priest of Apollo so either Paul was eluding to these false teachers as priest of the cult of Apollo or this is an encoded message. Any help will be appreciated.

    4:05 That is super counterintuitive for me, because in Dutch a vowel followed by two consonants indicates a short vowel.

    Optime. Very good job. The lines are famous, of course. There's something common between Catullus and Shakespeare - in the psychology of their poetry, and in their attitude to life.

      Thank you for responding to my Q, and I hope my Ben will get to do such a cool project, eventually. Ben, I am a homeschool mom teaching myself Latin along with my 14 year old son. I am about 1/2 way through first year Henle, and during summer we read Familia Romana at an easy pace with his friends. Honestly, I am considering switching to Cambridge so that I will have the advantage of your corresponding videos. I also noticed NLE is based on that curriculum. My son may want to continue Henle with our Classical Conversations community. But I think I may be better able to oversee his work under your CZcams tutelage. I love your channel, especially for pronunciation. Can you give me any suggestions?
