This can be summed up by the at-bats these guys had yesterday. Profar smokes a ball into Right field for a hit while Will Hits a ground ball with eyes up the middle that was gloved for a cheeky base-hit.

Padres do not have a single good prospects that will be available before the 2026 season at minimum. They only have 4 prospects ranked above a 45 FV according to fangraphs and are ranked as the 14th overall farm system. Once Merrill graduates soon they will have about the 20th ranked farm system and only Salas, De Vries, or Lesko will remaining as 50 FV or higher. This puts them in a really tough spot because there will be no reinforcements until 2026+ unless they make a trade but if they make a trade which will tank their farm system even more. That risk of waiting until 2026+ for those prospects to mature might be worse because Machado, Bogaerts, Darvish, Musgrove, and Peralta will all be 33-40 by then and Profar, Kim, Higgy, Cease, King, Suarez, and Arraez are all going to be FAs before 2026. Padres will go above the CBT in the future but there is no way they can replace all that talent with the big backloaded deals they have. They need to win now and trade the blue chip guys.

I don’t think AJ will leverage the farm this year. With several key guys injured and lots of unknowns…It wouldn’t be prudent. I anticipate a move or two…However, I don’t see him bringing in top tier guys. We’ll know soon enough.

No, a big trade wouldn't make a difference. At best, we get in the playoffs. This team still isn't built for a world series, let alone to win it. Preller has always gone after the big trade deadline pieces while trading top prospects. That being said you'd think after 10 years of dealing away and rebuilding the farm system there would be some pause for trading away big prospects this year given the success of Merrill. 10 All Stars this year started in the Padres system but were traded away for other talent. We need a sustainable future of prospects. Not quick grabs of top end trade deadline pieces that may or may not improve this teams record. Its fun but not sustainable as an org. Just get in the freaking playoffs. That's all we fans are asking for because who knows what could happen

To be honest this was the only major hiccup problem that AJ did to begin the 2024 season incorrectly letting Lugo and Wacha go ...that was the biggest concern I had at that original time in the beginning of the season horrible decision Why would you let go on an 11 Win Pitcher due to losing a few extra bucks... Make Musgrove from Now on ....a Reliever add in a couple 2-3 starts if needed but don't injure the arm and in 2025 allow Musgrove to be a permanent relief pitcher 1/2 Innings sometimes 3 if needed If you ask me you could trade .....
