Too many times I've seen comments saying, things I could make when buying more tools

Howdy howdy!
Hello! Thanks for joining us for this one. Was quite informative for me, and I'm looking forward to putting out the whole 'cast! -JC
That’s why you need to be able to protect and provide your own power by bypassing the evil over powering power companies! With Tesla having developed free electricity patents for humanity DECADES ago, WHY HAVE U BEEN FORCED TO PAY For Power when it was for the good of humanity? Instead of hacking something supposed to be free, why aren’t you going after the criminals STEALING YOUR WEALTH?? Tesla was Murdered also for doing something benevolent and righteous for humanity guys! Instead you’re just kissing into your criminal power company and cowardly towards your government? My question is WHY? I’ve always enjoyed taking things apart when I was a child but I’m at the point of WHY SHEEPLE? JUST WHY? You all are a lot younger than myself maybe in a decade or so you’ll be ASKING WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL My Freedoms Liberties and SOVEREIGNTY? I truly guess NONE OF THAT MATTERS to ANYONE THERE DOES IT??? You’re all fine beings controlled in these smart cities? Wholly Shameful SHIT Texas Already Under smart city control!!!! 2024 Texas under gov one world order smart city CONTROL? That TELLS the WHOLE STORY of the Great Awakening PUNISHMENT to Humanity!!! Texas, wholly Shameful Disgraceful SHIT? Hope moving into the future you’re all going to be SO PROUD OF GIVING UP All your FREEDOMS!???? Hey what about the houses that started on fire in California over these stupid hazardous smart meters? There’s so many reasons to refuse these forms of treasonous overlords FORCE you guys refuse to even consider! Remember Lads SOMEDAY WHEN you least expect, like maybe your house Starting on Fire from one of these invasive pieces of technology it might BE TOO LATE my friends? Call it what you want this gov sponsored enforcement it’s gonna be SO MANY REASONS why it’s TOO LATE!!!! What else are you GIVING UP in Texas? Sorry I have NO MORE FAITH in humanity’s JUDGMENT!!! It’s Gone!!! Enjoy working on one world order AGENDA Technology as your State becomes filled with Illegals guys!
Some of them were single line setups like he's talking about but some of them had multiple lines and actual chat areas. Miss those days. Sometimes you could have several different conversations going...chatter channels, whispers, group chats...all depended on the system you were using and the add-ons.
Neat stuff for sure. Happy to have gotten in on some of the tail end of it. -JC
Step 1) Find a friend with a 3D printer. Step 2) Buy a pack of tasty beers. Step 3) Give beers to said friend in exchange for them printing the parts for you.
Bro needs to calm down with 150 per hour; you can get an entire Cine Anamorphic lens kit for around 175 per day
What do you suggest? -JC
Matt looking majestic as usual
The video ends with you saying "thanks very much and we'll get you back to your program". Audio version too. I guess you meant to break the video into two pieces anyway, it's just that the wording is quite odd.
Ah, yeah, the wording is pretty strange. I'll have to keep that in mid for the next one, thx. That being said, the Part 2 video is available here if you want to check it out: czcams.com/video/VtNQBjrKbPs/video.html
I got the Bambu Labs A1 Mini for $200. Quick setup, easy to use, great prints. Only limited by its 180mm3 volume.
180mm³ is tiny! Unless you mean 180x180x180mm... But that's 5,832,000mm³ (still small though).
And yet people forget to be hostile about an angle grinder, a drill, a saw, tens of sheets of sandpaper and all of the other tools that can easily sum up to more than $500...
It is a bit strange. Though I wonder if that sentiment is changing? -JC
We want to see the mud hut ! Great channel guys keep it up and God bless you.
Thanks for checking our podcast out and for your nice comment! We've got what I think is a really good one coming out this month, so we hope to hear from you again! -JC
i agree with matt and the commenters a 3D printer (and filament) is not only an extra expense but you have to learn CAD to use it. things like carpentry and soldering are inexpensive, almost always free and easy to learn, and you shouldnt be glorifying 3D printing over a raw skill. if you're already a 3D printer user, you should be avocating for more carpentry skills and such, not less. self growth my dude. "im not good at measuring and cutting" just tells me that you have some growth to do, and doing projects that matt does teaches you those skills.
Thanks for the comment! We enjoyed having Matt on 🙂
It’s actually not hard to learn enough to use it. I designed a threaded helix to focus a large format lens and it just took a couple short CZcams videos. The rest of my project is just as hard with the power tools I have to use. I wish I could print those parts instead of use a table saw. A lot more precise too.
@@NandR Good to hear. Thanks for watching! -JC
So filament is expensive but the cost of wood isn't a problem? Where Matt lives in the UK, hardwood is SO expensive, it's usually cheaper to 3D print. Also, woodworking power tools are expensive, often more expensive than a printer! Also, how can you complain that 3D printing lacks skill, but then also complain that you have to learn a skill (CAD) in order to use it? Why the double standards?
The Arduino AVR MCU is 90s technology. So there was "Arduino " AVR in the 90s (1996-)
My first programmer was a pic (and it was not cheap). I was ~16 years old back then
What about the BS2?
True. Had one of those circa 2000. Wasn't cheap at the time! -JC
@@createinvent I suppose not, $85 if I remember? Those were cool. Still have one around here
@@joesipaq Something like that. The kit with a book etc was more IIRC.
No! I think Arduino is a modern equivalent of MOS6502! Brings back the joy of programming in non-preemptive os back to the modern world! with easier APIs (POKE -> digitalWrite(pin, HIGH); It's different. It's their "computer" was being an arduino.
Also, the programmers are now super accessible. Back in the time the software stack and build tools are behind the NDAs and all sort of stuff. Arduino, using ATmega128 distributed AVRDude alongside and programmer built-in and with the price tag easily accessible. Also, wide popularity meaning clone programmer boards dropping the price! Programmer being expensive is still true if you look at ST-LINK (Genuine not clones)
No Arduino in the 90's, but we still had the Microchip PIC range and the "programmer" could be made with cheap parts to hang of the then-ubiquitous RS232 port, all for under £5. Granted the dev side was a steeper curve learning, but at one point even BASIC could be used to write code for them! What really makes the Arduino accessible is the ecosystem: the simple IDE and handfuls of pre-made code you can almost blindly bolt together in a few clicks, using higher level code and get something prototyped in a few hours without even blinking at a datasheet.
Thanks for your comment. I remember using a Basic Stamp II in either the tail end of the 90s or the very early 2000s, so there was that too. Maybe that was a PIC? -JC
There was actually a Arduino like ID for pick microcontrollers back then which was very intuitive to program certain premade boards over USB
Think of all the colleges that can't monopolize knowledge!
I know right? -JC

@@patregan That would be great. I'm just spitballing here but the Pat Regan and Max Maker Show has a certain ring to it :).
Ha, well hopefully we'll still see you around here from time to time!
@@AndrewHelgeCox You might be on to something, Andrew! I would *DEFINITELY* watch the Max Maker and Pat Paker Show!
Fyi. 3d printers are cheaper than a handful of wood tools.
True. -JC
as a carpenter who started from complete scratch. this isnt actually true. also most people have a garage full of tools, most tools just need a lil TLC, some oil and scrubbing. CADCAM is expensive, time consuming and difficult to learn at times. im not saying it shouldnt be encouraged. learn both. invest in both CADCAM and carpentry. but dont go round saying a stone age skillset is hard or expensive.
@@PrototypePlatform So you're assuming you start with the woodworking tools... That might be true for YOU, but other people might have a 3D printer but no (or few) woodworking tools. There are a whole bunch of CAD CAM programs that are 100% free to use for personal use (Fusion 360 and Onshape being 2 pretty solid options). They're no more difficult to learn than learning precise woodworking skills. Have you considered that you're simply biased towards woodworking and against 3D printing?
Yeah you can order 3d printed parts online and the price difference towards the total sum will be equal to price difference for wood and hardware depending on where you live. Plus, a 3d printer is cheap. Not 500$. I bought the anycubic mega zero 2.0 for $120 on the official website, basically an ender3, which is good enough.
Nice, thanks for the comment! -JC
Just subscribed. The channel is a great idea! DIY perks is one of my favorite channels.
Well thanks! We've had lots of great interviews, including several with Matt. Please poke around and let us know if you find anything else you think is cool!
I 3D print parts at my local Library when I need higher quality or larger parts than my cheap consumer printer can make.
Nice! -JC
I'm here just trying to imagine here the insanity of Matt trying to cover both kind of watchers/builders/tinkerers 😅 From my POV I think that the way he do all his projects and present everything we get better content than if he relayed heavily on 3D prints, but I could picture myself doing more of his projects if he used 3D printers for most of the fabrication. 😅
A struggle for sure. Thanks for watching - I'd invite you to poke around on our channel, we've had some great guests (including Matt for sure) - JC
You edited out the part where I teach you and Pat about the classic fake-Latin phrase "Illegitimi non carborundum " (don't let the bastards grind you down).

As somone who was born 80 years ago, and watch the insane magic of developing technology since than, you’d think he’d know the technology will prolly get there one day
Maybe. One could also argue that we haven't been back to the moon for decades, though we talk about things in a bit more detail in the full podcast, especially part 2: czcams.com/video/IasYs7fY_wM/video.html - Thanks for the comment! -JC
Wake up guys... There are sweet dreams... and then reality. YOU CAN'T TERAFORM MARS! NO MAGNETIC FIELD, POISON DUST.. Move on! It ain't happening.
Can't? It's hard to predict what kind of tech will be available in a century or more. Thx for the comment! -JC
Humans evolved to live on earth, living on another planet understandable is not plausible.
Thanks for watching and commenting. It would be very hard for sure - we elaborate on the problems more in part II, so I hope you will check it out: czcams.com/video/IasYs7fY_wM/video.html -JC

Hey, very cool! Interesting you can leave a comment there and it shows up on "normal" CZcams! Thx for leaving another comment - planning to put another episode out Thursday! -JC
I would personally worry more about insurance for it rather than the rental cost. If no one else can find one for themselves it is perhaps unique and/or irreplaceable. Maybe look into say Leica and find out how much they'd charge to reproduce the entire lens. Also speak to some insurance companies (not brokers!) Once you have that you can have some kind of basis upon which to base your charges/costs.
Thanks for the ideas! -JC

The science says about 42 minutes to travel through the earth under perfect conditions.
Well 42 is the answer to life, the universe, and everything, so sounds correct! 😆 Seriously though, did you see some info on this somewhere? I would be interested in checking it out. -JC
@@createinvent I first heard about it from the research of Mark Shegelski in the early '00s. Scientific America has some great articles about it. Since you are interested, with air resistance, you are looking at closer to 20 hours. And we haven't even taken the rotation or revolution of the earth into account yet. This is obviously just a thought experiment, but I could probably find the exact papers within a day or so. But I definitely encourage everyone to look up their own proof. Discovery is half the fun
Being able to understand how these work is one thing, hacking it to steal power and screw everyone else is just plain theft. You would be a common thief and should be treated accordingly!
I'd agree, thought it seems he's the former and I'd very much assume he pays his power bills! -JC
I understand what you mean about being honest, but "and screw everyone else"? How is someone grabbing power free gonna hurt anyone else? I mean the power creators aren't being hurt, and the "providers" are just thieves charging many multiples of times what the power costs to produce and doing nothing but being greedy middlemen, so how is anyone being screwed? Or are you thinking tall poppy syndrome, "why should he have free when I have to pay" type screwed? Do people hate me coz I have spent a lot of money buying batteries and solar panels and hope it fails so they can't be screwed by me having free power instead of paying the power company? Just a strange bit of text you added there 'zall.
We got a good goy
