Robert and Michelle King Dabble In Snuff Porn
To me, The Good Wife and Brain Dead are the pinnacle of great TV. I hold the King's to a high level of responsibility. Very high. The became insanely rich after the Good Wife. To create a hero in a TV show who "likes" men who murder young women is simply inexcusable.

    A couple of observations. 1) The segment uploaded to CZcams isn't the full segment that aired live. This one clipped the intro of the guest. It clipped the outro. A random sample of guest interviews shows no rhyme or reason why some segments include the guest intro and some don't. My guess is it's a choice by whomever is tasked with uploading a segment. Probably a few individuals share and rotate that responsibility. 2) Klepper did pronounce his name right. It's a little hard to hear because of the clipped outro, bring up the music over the applause as he's saying his name, but it is right. A third observation. Both the opening segments and the guest interview segments have clipped intros and outros applied inconsistently. Again, likely due to more than one person in charge of editing and uploading the segments to CZcams.

      @@maxcanthelpitdue to limitations of only having mobile devices - phone and tablet - as well as financial limitations, my ability to download and create clips is limited to nonexistent. However, the full 17 minute 11 second extended interview segment on comedy central includes the return from commercial break, guest intro, introducing his best seller, where Jordan Klepper pronounces Jonathan Haidt as "Hite" and it also includes the full outro where Klepper says they'll take a quick break and they'll be right back. The video of the segment uploaded to CZcams is 16 minutes 38 seconds. It clips about 34 seconds from the beginning, starting where they're both seated at the desk. It clips about 10 seconds at the end after Klepper says Jonathan Haidt. It's one of the top videos in a quick Google search for the Daily Show Jordan Klepper Jonathan Haidt interview. This segment is as of this comment, available to view without a subscription. Because I don't have a subscription to Paramount+, I was unable to watch the full episode. So I'm not sure if there's any differences there. After spending further time, it appears that the interviews available to watch on Comedy Central contain the full intro and outro, with the exception of the three most recent interviews from this week. I'm guessing that sometime over the next few days the full segment with intro/outro will be available on CC. It's possible that at the time you made this rant, the only the 16 min 38 second video was on CC. What's surprising to me in all this is you seem to think that the Daily Show's production values are so inept, that they would just start a segment that airs on TV without introducing the guest - when they've introduced the guest on every episode. What gets cut due to TV time constraints is parts of the interview, not the intro. I do disagree with those who've called your rant unhinged. Viewing this in context, of Jordan Klepper pronouncing Haidt as Hite, and does so in the CC 17 minute video, perhaps the rant should be directed at the pressures of quickly uploading content to social media platforms, where the production values displayed when the episode airs, are cut when the episodes/segments are edited for social media.

      @@phoenix2634 Tech is my business. I have another channel Maxotics. So I don't have the "limitations" you do ;) I downloaded the clips and listened to them VERY closely using headphones. I cannot find the episode on comedy central. I watched the first on Paramount, which is the full one. You should note I noticed something was odd while watching it with my wife. And as I said before, I was not looking for issues like this. All this doesn't mean my 62 year old ears just heard it wrong. I've been watching every TDS epsidoe since Stewart came back. I have never said they are "inept". That's not my point at all. I understand that segments can be cut for time. As I mentioned, it wasn't the inability to hear Haidt name at the end that convinced me. It was that Klepper only called him by his first name in the beginning. My argument is not that TDS is inept. It's as professionally produced as I'd expect a multi-ten-millions show to be. The problem for me is moral values, the values of good journalism (even if you're a comedy show) and the distinction between making an argument and making comedy. Most of TDS is about making arguments, the facts of which, I would dispute. The gist of it is, TDS sets up a "cool table" where the audience feels like they can sit at. They get to hear the jokes of the inside cool kids. There was no "cool kids" table of nerds/geeks when I was young. IMO, much of what they say is simply re-hashed news. Like when I pointed out Stewart said we want the oil from the Middle East when we don't use it anymore (though we have other interests). TDS makes mistake after mistake. But anyone who brings it up is told, "it's just comedy". And I say, then do comedy, not news. And they say, "chill out, you don't get it." OKAY!!!! You admit yourself you don't have the technical means to ascertain if Klepper pronounced his name correctly. You haven't given me a timestamp of a video I can watch and listen to him pronounce the name correctly. But again, I am not infallable. Thanks for taking the time to make these comment and especially to appreciate that my rant is NOT unhinged. What fun is a rant that isn't ;)

    Max, I'd like to suggest a topic for you to research. It is a topic that I am currently writing a book on, so I know it rather well. The subject referred to is the history of the Brazilian car industry, during a period from roughly the mid 1970s until 1990. During that era a policy of virtually banning all imported cars and major parts assemblies, called "Importation-Substitution Industrialization" (ISI), from their domestic market was strictly enforced. I suspect your experience in the consumer computing market may not apply to heavy industries quite so readily. I also think you'll be shocked to see the well documented, if counterintuitive, results of ISI and the aftermath of its repeal. Let's just say that there's a major reason that Brazil's economy went off a cliff towards the end of the 20th century. It wasn't mere politics or monetary policy, although many factors contributed, but one major change occurred. As said, I invite you to study that period in Automotive history, in Brazil. It functions as a nice clean microcosm, with enough moving parts to model larger markets effectively, but small enough to quantify and examine readily, with clear cut events of causation and concrete outcomes. I think you will find an inescapable conclusion upon completing this study. Plus, it is a fascinating scene with a diverse and interesting set of players and some unlikely alliances that worked far better than anyone might have predicted. The various makes and models that came from the "ISI" Era are referred to as "Fora de Serie" and are a point of pride among the Brazilians, especially car enthusiasts. Some true classics were created. Then it all vanished overnight...

    • @maxcanthelpit
      @maxcanthelpit Před 17 dny

      Hi, I'm not familiar with Brazil's auto industry but a cursory study shows they don't have any 100% home grown models. What they had had engines from FIAT or VW. Is that right? I watched some of Asianometry's videos about ISI in other countries, like Australia, with cars. What do you think is wrong about the argument I made in the video? Do you believe these tariffs will help or hurt the U.S.? Thanks!

    • @theCharmingDeviant
      @theCharmingDeviant Před 16 dny

      @@maxcanthelpit I am going to be brief here, but firstly: Very few if any countries have 100% homegrown cars and domestic content in vehicles manufactured in any given country has been a shrinking fraction in product for decades. Brazil had a large industry, however, with fully fledged divisions of multi-national makes from GM, Ford, Chrysler, to Renault and Fiat. This is no different than Europe with SEAT, Opel, Vauxhall, etc.. (Not sure what authority a tech channel like Asianometry, good as it is, has on the car industry or history therein btw... odd source). In addition, there were nearly 100 independent producers of niche models, including substantial ones like Puma and Gurgel that produced and sold 1000's of cars during the ISI era...

    • @maxcanthelpit
      @maxcanthelpit Před 16 dny

      @@theCharmingDeviant To back up a bit, I'm not sure the tariffs were about auto manufacturing. I believe they were a punishment to China because it is supplying arms to Russia through the black market. As I say in my video, it's not all tariffs that I'm questioning. Most countries do it. It's a 100% tariff. On a whole product. Do you believe that's going to work? I mean American EV makers are already pulling out of the market. For what it's worth, I've always viewed EVs as niche luxury products. But that's a long conversation about the practicalities of energy sources.

    • @theCharmingDeviant
      @theCharmingDeviant Před 16 dny

      @@maxcanthelpit Secondly: Nearly all modern EV/Hybrid Tech has origins in DARPA/Military projects dating to the 1970's/80's, and Japanese Tech dating to the 1960s (see Toyota's electric Starlet), and aside from methods for scaling, CCP has invented nothing of consequence in this area. In order to do business, there, Musk had to sacrifice IP, so a lot of China's EV product owes much to Tesla. Which brings me to my next point... Fair competition vs rigging the game. huge Chinese subsidies prop up their "new energy" sector vs US market capitalization subject to the whims of our investor class. CCP has ownership of nearly all companies (in full or part) vs ours which private or publicly traded corporations. Then there are labor costs of US vs CCP, aggressive CCP Market protectionism & tariffs (see also Japan). Not to mention access requirements for foreign companies forced to partner with CCP entities, not to mention their own aggressive tariffs. I could go on.... If our tariffs keep demonstrably unfair competition out of our market, preventing what happened in Brazil or making what happened already in the USA worse, then I think they are the wisest, most just course of action.

    • @maxcanthelpit
      @maxcanthelpit Před 16 dny

      @@theCharmingDeviant I'm NO FAN of the CCP. Not by a gazillion miles. If third world countries don't "borrow" IP would they really have a chance in these industries? Again, no fan of China in this regard, but I doubt Brazil was squeaky clean either. There's no true fair competition and everything has some rigging. Auto manufacturing is so large they are all State subsidized to some extent. Have you forgotten the 2008-2010 bailouts? I didn't want them. Where was capitalism then? I don't see the "demonstrably unfair competition" We have the reserve currency. We set the parameters, in the end. A 100% tariff on the whole car is crazy, if only for the reason that there are so many parts, etc., that go into it. Plus they'd have to pay for regulatory approvals, etc. It sends the wrong message. But thanks for your insight!!!

Regardless, it is clearly obvious that Klepper did not do it in a malicious or mocking way. He expresses very clear admiration and respect for Mr. Haidt, and I am certain that Mr. Haidt did not take it personally either. Nevertheless, Mr. Klepper is human, and humans make mistakes... Not sure why the CZcams algorithm thought I should view this drivel with zero likes. You do know it's a comedy program, right? As someone who has viewed the Daily Show since the Craig Kilborn days it was clear from the start that the interviews were supposed to be fluff entertainment pieces for movie stars and performers to plug their latest projects, just like other late night talk shows. Then Jon Stewart took over and elevated the level of discourse and brought on many important minds of our time for poignant discussions of relevant issues of consequence, while still somehow managing to be funny and displaying crass immaturity, like calling Fox News "bullshit mountain". If you have watched any of the latest episodes with Jon as host you can see him take "journalists" to task on far more serious issues, like the media circus surrounding Trump's trials. I like Jordan Klepper but it's clear he's not the permanent host and it appears he is being thrown into it with little preparation. What he really excels at are his field pieces where interviews regular people. I have also listened to his podcasts where he exhibits far more preparation and is incredibly polite and respectful to his guests and takes on a more serious and professional tone throughout. You found fault with one name, one episode and decided to make a reaction video. Had you done some reasearch and compiled evidence that some sort of pattern of disrespect exists then I would say you are on to something. But as for now, keep tilting at windmills to send some pointless "message" that the oligarchs in charge at Paramount will never see...

      Yes, I know it's a comedy program. Am I preventing anyone from enjoying it as fluff? No. I comment on aspect of how it fits into our social mores, values, etc. This piece isn't really about Jordan Klepper, it's about professionalism at TDS and corporate governance at Paramount. Will anyone at Paramount see my videos? No. I wasn't born yesterday. I'm not tilting at windmills. I'm trying to explain how the show works as propaganda and a conduit to marketing. 99% of people will view my videos the way you do. I'm not doing this for the 99%. This is a hobby channel produced for a minority of certain types of thinkers.

      @@maxcanthelpit OK, I'll bite...How does picking on a minor mispronunciation demonstrate how the show works as propaganda? Of course it's a conduit to marketing, it's on basic cable ffs and paid for by ad breaks. Still, Stewart has famously mocked Viacom now Paramount and his own sponsors or sponsored content (Arby's, anyone?) That's why his tenure with Apple TV+ or whatever it's called has been contentious. I am sure you prefer "old-school journalists" like Murrow or Wallace pulling a drag while plugging Pall Mall cigarettes before reading the news or starting an interview... We get it, corporate media sucks. But these comedians are the jesters of our time and can speak truth to power far better than anyone on CNN, MSNBC, or Fox. Do better with your targeted attacks.

      @@rmick75 Thanks for not writing this off. I've done a video about the general format of TDS, "The 7 Rules of the Daily Show". I think when Stewart was younger, before he started making millions, he spoke truth to power. Same for Lewis Black before him. As I explain in one of my videos, Stewarts message to Tucker Carlson meant something to me. Then I began to suspect Stewart became worse than Carlson, in making everything a political attack of a political party. When he said he was going to do "Indecision 2024" I figured I resurrect this experimental channel to follow it. I cover other media stuff too. His first episode was good. I was hopeful. It's been all downhill from there. Sorry.

      @@maxcanthelpit I guess I am not in the target audience as my opinions and conclusions are far different. Yes, Stewart and The Daily Show in general has let me down many times. He's a flawed human like the rest of us, subject to biases and negative influences. But if you cannot see the difference between Stewart and an obvious partisan shill like Jimmy Kimmel I feel bad for you. TDS is often hit or miss, but when it hits it hits hard. Look at the example of when Fox sent Jesse Watters to Chinatown to produce some stereotypical garbage report and TDS's rebuttal with Ronny Chieng hit it out of the park. Jordan Klepper starred in a special on guns that was actually pretty nuanced as he gets training with a licensed instructor. Stewart, unlike Colbert, who sold his soul to CBS, seems to still be above the partisan bs, evident by him coming on Colbert's show and questioning the official narrative around the Wuhan lab leak origins of the covid virus, to Colbert's obvious consternation. Unfortunately, neither this video nor our subsequent conversation has really motivated me enough to check out more of your content, but I guess I wish you luck in finding your audience.
